Camp of Art
Stanjel 2001 will take place in Stanjel, little village on Karst in June
19th - 28 th. Activities for volunteers will begin in Ljubljana in Paradoks
17th June . Nearest raiway station is Ljubljana, airport is Brnik. On Camp
we will inviting 20 users of psychiatry of all Slovenia who enjoy painting.
In the camp we are going to practise different activities: to help older
people in Stanjel at their work. S: Round table on the teme: Stigmation
os users of psychiatry and methods to help them, Workshop: Symptoms of
mental disorders. L:English. The accomodation for all participants will
be organised in ?tanjel. X: Highly motivated vols. 21 + age.

PEER CAMP ELERJI

Peer camp will
take place in the last 3 weeks in August in a seaside village on Slovenian
coast where VITA, association for helping the children who sustained accidental
head injuries will organise the summer vacitions for children that have
mental or physical difficulties.. W: Vols will be expected to asssist the
users with everyday activities and get involved in social activities an
the camp. S: Vols will get two days orientation in Ljublana preparing them
for their work with the users. L: English and Slovene. A: In the house.T:

FUZINE, LJUBLJANA

This camp is
the project aimed to enable children to enjoy creative holidays, particular
those children from deprieved social background who otherwise wouldn't
be able to enjoy holidays. Camp will take place in one of neighbourhoods
in Ljubljana named Fuzine which was built mainly for the people with low
income and there are a lot of young families with children living there.
W:Social. Volunteers will organise different animating games and plays
for children. Camp has preventing character and one of its goals is to
build ties among children and adults and to prevent anti-social behaviour.
During summer holidays we organise creative free time for the kids, so
they don't stay alone at home or ramble aimlessly in the streets.
A: rooms with two beds, bathroom and kitchen. L: English Q: Volunteers
are expected to present many creative ideas, have interest, joy and pleasure
in working with children of age 5 - 16. They are also expected to be physically
fit and have some sense for improvisation when working. Camp is not accessible

SALTPANS, SECOVLJE

The saltpans
of Secovlje are part of ethnological patrimony (UNESCO Convention on wetlands).
The aim of the camp is to stop the disapperance of picturesque Mediteranean
landscape. Volunteers will contribute to reactivation of saltpans by the
use of the traditional way of producing salt. W: reconstruction of some
saltpans pools and helping Rinaldo, the last saltpan-man by the traditional
salt harvest. Work will be very demanding especially because of the summer
heat (aver. temp. is above 30 deg.C). X: therefore highly motivated volunteers
with a sense for self initiative at work and also at the study part are
expected. A: old house near the sea used for storage of salt (nights can
be cold in the house), no electricity and no running water, showers provided
every few days. Food will be prepared by vols themselves. S: Round tables
on saltpan ecositem, trips in the vicinity. L: English. T:Trieste, Ljubljana.

VELIKA PLANINA

Velika planina
pasture (from 1440 to 1650 m) is situated 30 km north from Ljubljana, at
the SE side of Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It is the largest pasture in
Slovenia, but the number of shepherds and caws on the mountain is decreasing
every year. A: A well equipped small cottage (except showers which will
be provided every third day). Meals will be prepared by volunteers. W:
Helping older shepherds at their daily work, some maintaining work around
the shepherds cottages, recording a video film and slides show, about
shepherds everyday life - performed to the public at the final performance
of the camp. L: English. S: nature conservation, protected areas, problems
in alpine agriculture in past, today and in the future. X: every day walking
from the cottage to the shepherds settlement (1 hour one way). So highly
motivatied volunteers with sense of nature conservation are welcome.
Some knowledge about photograpy and video recording is also recommended.

PRIDE 2002,
LJUBLJANA

The aim of
this project is to organise campaign to increase gay and lesbian visibility
and tolerance in the capitol of Slovenia. Last year workcamp was very successful
and volunteers who take part in organisation of first GLBT prostest were
very satisfied and happy with the work that was done. This year volunteers
will help to organise first Pride parade in Ljubljana and other activities
such as a concert and the party after the pride. You can expect a
lot of fun and excitement with the street events, preparation of decoration,
banners and posters. W: designing and action, events making. A: basic,
bring sleeping bags. S: GLBT visibility and positive image campaigns. L:

TRNOVO 2002

Camp will be
organised by the local NGO POTePUH which main activities are in the field
of culture, turism and education in Trnovo, a village near Italian border.
POTePUH works mostly through voluntary work camps, debates and workshops.
W: In cooperation with local people we'll clean the surroundings of monument
of combat from second world war, cut tzhe bushes and clean foot path and
cyclist road. We'll also clean surroundings of an Austrian second world
war shooting ground (you can expect some munition remains). S: history
of the village, trips to taverna holes from WW2, horse riding over the
countryside. A: in village Inn, vols will prepare breakfast and dinner,
lunch wil be catered. L: English. T: Trieste, Ljubljana.

ROBIDISCE 2002

Robidisce is
a village situated in the mountains on the Slovene - Italian border. Over
the years the village has suffered severe loss of inhabitants. Depopulation
and decrease of farming has threatened one of the village's most precious
heritage - the traditional architecture. For some years local association
has been trying to renovate the most representative buildings and elements
of the village. W: volunteers will work on the renovation of the ancient
fountain in the village. They will clean the area near the fountain and
together with local people they will help with simple construction work
on the fountain. S: Study theme is a part of the renovation work. Volunteers
will learn about the cultural and ethnological elements of the area and
about revival programs. They will have possibilities to get more detailed
information on several local trips. There will be some lectures organised.
A: in the house in Robidisce; sleeping bag needed. Q: motivated people,
interested in the subject with ideas how to revive a dying village. L:
English. X: Swimming in the alpine river is obligatory!

Old Filovci

The aim of
the project "Restoring Old Places, Creating New Neighbourhood" is to gather
young enthusiasts in architectural heritage conservation of the four neighbouring
countries and their bordering regions that form a trilateral park Goricko
between Slovenia, Austria and Hungary. By using information, knowledge,
skills and techniques of the modern sciences and technologies the volunteers
will learn in 10 days of their multicultural gathering how to reuse the
valuable cultural heritage as the potential for the local and regional
rural development by setting up a new open air museum and restoring a barn
and a vernacular farmhouse "cimpraca" built from the traditional materials:
clay, straw, wood. In addition participants will find the camp resourceful,
amusing, adventurous since they will experience traditional ways of living
merged with the modern hospitality and idea of the area which is spiritually,
culturally and economically rich of development potentials arising from
the strong local identity which expresses in the unique dialect, cuisine,
music, craft and spacious nature along the Mura river banks. A: in one
of the local farm houses and a pottery maker's studio. L: will be languages
of the region: Slovene, Hungarian, German, Croatian, Prekmurje dialect
and body language. To avoid a total misunderstanding English as a neutral
language and equally difficult for all of the participants will be used
as well.

The camp will
be placed in Posocje, a beautiful valley which starts at the bottom of
the Julian Alps and ends just a few kilometres before the Adriatic
sea. In last decade it was severly damaged by earthquake and in year 2000
by landslide. W: the volunteers will work on arranging culture and entertainment
meeting point for youth in nature (cleaning playground, painting playing
equipment, cleaning undergrowth - no hard physical work) and helping farmers
in small mountain villages. S: exploring possibilities for employment,
influence on career decision, migrations from rural parts because of employment
conditions, opportunities to study abroad (sharing experiences among volunteers
and youth). A: in tents. L: Slovene, English, Italian. Q: Personal
initiative and positive attitude are required. T: Trieste X: not accesible
by wheelchair; families welcome
