SR 9.1 EXIT FESTIVAL, Novi Sad      ARTS     25/06 - 10/07   15 vols
EXIT, with its academic (open studios, debates, workshops, lectures) and cultural programmes such as concerts (Kosheen, Finley Quaye, Saloma de Bahia and many others performed in 2001), theatre and art performances is more then just a festival. Organized by the student and youth organizations from SE Europe and made for the young people of the region, EXIT represents a complex entity of a number of great social and cultural happenings and activities, which various youth and student organizations from the SE Europe (the stress being on ex-Yugoslavia), gathered into EXIT Centres (of all countries of SE Europe), intend to organize in this region in the next few years. The main aim of these activities is confidence building between the sides that were at war (in the Balkans), by a direct influence on a large number of people (tens of thousands of young people in the region), and a powerful promotion of tolerance, multiculturalism, and human rights, as well as a firm and persistent struggle against nationalism, primitiveness, and xenophobia. At the same time, it is one of the most effective ways to start mutual cooperation, re-establish old connections with the student and youth organizations from the rest of Europe and a very powerful instrument for achieving the aims stated above, by influencing a large part of the population.
Work: Vols will help prepare the festival area (build up stages, etc) with local organizers. They are invited to stay at the festival after the workcamp is over!
Accommodation: in tents (but student dormitory might be possible)

SR 6.1 ZLOT CANYON, Bor    ENVI     01/07 - 15/07  12 vols
The program of cleaning and sanitation of Lazar’s canyon, caves and riverbanks will be carried out at the entrees of the beautiful Zlot canyon where Lazar's and Vernjikica caves are situated. These caves were regarded as tourist attraction in the past. The aim of the project is to clean the entrance of the canyon and caves, prepare them again for tourist use and protect them from further destruction.
Work: In cooperation with local residents from villages Zlot and Brestovac vols will clean the riverbanks of Lazar's and Brestovac rivers.
Study: Elementary course of speleology will be organized but vols should have some minimal knowledge of speleology. Sightseeing tours of local caves, canyon and national parks on maintain is planned.
Accommodation: in tents; participants should bring sleeping bag.
Location: Zlot Canyon is 20 km from Bor in eastern Serbia where food will also be provided.
Special requirements: Vols should have some minimal knowledge of speleology.

SR 6.2 VELIKO RATNO OSTRVO, Belgrade    ENVI     10/07 - 20/07 15vols
The Small and Big “War” River Islands (“Malo” and “Veliko Ratno Ostrvo”) are situated at the river mouth of Sava and Danube, hardly 800m from the very center of Belgrade, capital of Yugoslavia. Veliko Ratno Ostrvo occupies 1,4 km2, covered by immense rich and diverse vegetation. The preserved vegetation, ecological plasticity of the bog and water vegetation the isolation of the islands, relatively calm and large surrounding water area, are convenient for breeding of a multitude of animal species, above all birds. At The Big War Island, about 130 bird species have been recorded, out of which, about 40 of them are nesting on the island itself. Almost 97% of all the recorded species have been categorized within different endangerment categories.
Work: The vols will help build cottages and hearths, for the genetic-reproductive center “Galijas“, a natural lake within the island for nourishment, habitation and breeding of a multitude of animal species.
Excursion: During their stay, vols will be taken for a boat rides to the river islands on Sava and Danube: Ada Ciganlija, Ada Huja and Bela Stena.

SR 6.3 STRAZILOVO, Novi Sad      ENVI     15/07 - 27/07  15 vols
Strazilovo valley is situated at the National park “Fruska Gora”, a mountain in the vicinity of the village Sremski Karlovci, about 10 km from Novi Sad (the second largest city in Yugoslavia). The workcamp here is an attempt to prove that only a sustainable forestry practice must be applied, especially in National parks, in order to preserve the endangered habitats.
Work: Vols will mark the old trees to protect them from the unplanned cutting and put little houses for bats on them.
Excursion: Visits to the town of Sremski Karlovci, a great cultural and historical center (museums, vine cellars, etc), swimming in the lake at Fruska Gora mountain, visits to Novi Sad (museums, clubs and the biggest discotheque in Yugoslavia "Paradiso"), and a guided tour to the nearby Petrovaradin fortress are planned.

SR 9.2 PANONIA, Novi Sad ARTS     15/07 - 27/07  10 vols
Strazilovo is a picturesque wooded valley situated on the northeastern slopes of the National park “Fruska Gora”. It is situated 5km southward from Sremski Karlovci-a town which was very important for the development of cultural and spiritual life of Serbs in recent history. Sremski Karlovci is not far away from Novi Sad-the capital and the administrative and cultural center of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Strazilovo together with Fruska gora is one of the regions in Vojvodina unique in its biological diversity. The beauty of this region has inspired many renowned artists. Near Strazilovo, there are several Orthodox monasteries which date mostly from the sixteenth century Work and study: Vols should be young musicians, able to play their instrument and read notes, who will learn to play the folk music of Panonia on instruments characteristic to their countries. They will perform the compositions they learn as an orchestra at the end of the workcamp.
Excursion: The volunteers will visit the monasteries, museums, cultural and historical monuments as well as the beaches on the Danube. They will learn about the ethnology, culture and history of Vojvodina through lectures within the camp. They will also visit nightclubs and have parties. The folk-dance ensemble “Brankovo Kolo” and local rock bands will perform at the concert which will be organized.

SR 6.4 DURMITOR, Zabljak, Montenegro   ENVI   19/07 - 31/07 15vols
Mountain Durmitor, in the north of Montenegro, is a part of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage List and Man and Biosphere Program thanks to its dramatic landscape that includes four canyons, numerous springs and lakes, a mountain massif towering over 2000 m, meadows, woodlands, and a vast number of rare and protected plant and animal species. Sadly, due to the economic situation in Yugoslavia, it has been neglected and is now facing various environmental problems, one of which is garbage.
Work: Volunteers would take part in cleaning up the garbage from forests and tourist trails in the vicinity of Zabljak, Crno jezero Lake and Zminje jezero Lake
Excursion: organized excursions are planned to some of the lakes, a medieval necropolis area, and to Curovac, a viewpoint 1100 m above the Tara Canyon and to the mountain massif of Durmitor; taking walks along the forest trails also possible. Swimming and boating in Crno Jezero Lake will be also possible as well as entertainment in nearby restaurants, cafes and hotels.
Accommodation and food will be provided in the bungalows close to tourist center Zabljak.

SR 9.3 KOSJERIC I, Uzice                  ARTS-Poetry     02/08 - 12/08  7vols

Kosjeric is a town in the western part of Serbia, 146 km from Belgrade. This town is surrounded by four different areas: Bosnia to the west with Drina River, Sumadia to the east, Kolubara river and mountain center Divcibare to the north and the town of Uzice towards south, a center of this region, which is on the way to Montenegro. We can say that Kosjeric takes influences from all these areas. There are several media in it and many young students are around in the summer.
Work/Study: During the first days of the poets’ workshop participants will present their own work and poetry with a short presentation of the contemporary literature of their countries. Following days will be dedicated to reading poetry, exchanging experiences related with creation, inspiration, motives and problems of affirmation and group creative works. One day a meeting and cooperation with local poets will be organized. Excursion: Several picnics will be organized were participants can pay visit to the most important cultural and historical monuments in the town and its vicinity.
Accommodation: in the houses of the host – students’ families or in households which are engaged in country tourism, in the town Kosjeric, famous as tourist center in western Serbia because of its untouched nature, monuments and as a place of unique culture and preserved tradition.

SR 9.4 KOSJERIC II, Uzice    ARTS– Painting/architecture 02/08 - 12/08   7vols
Kosjeric is a town in the western part of Serbia, 146 km from Belgrade. This town is surrounded by four different areas: Bosnia to the west with Drina River, Sumadia to the east, Kolubara river and mountain center Divcibare to the north and the town of Uzice towards south, a center of this region, which is on the way to Montenegro. We can say that Kosjeric takes influences from all these areas. There are several media in it and many young students are around in the summer.
Work/Study: At the beginning of the painting camp each participant will present his own work and art happenings in his or her country. Meeting with local architecture, handwork and visits to a gallery dedicated to local artists are planned. Vols will be having creative workshops of painting inspired by local motives in order to propose possible small architectural changes of the town Kosjeric. Art colony will conclude the group works with an exhibition, which will be given as a gift to the town.

SR 9.5 KOSJERIC III, Uzice       ARTS– Music  02/08 - 12/08   7 vols
Kosjeric is a town in the western part of Serbia, 146 km from Belgrade. This town is surrounded by four different areas: Bosnia to the west with Drina River, Sumadia to the east, Kolubara river and mountain center Divcibare to the north and the town of Uzice towards south, a center of this region, which is on the way to Montenegro. We can say that Kosjeric takes influences from all these areas. There are several media in it and many young students are around in the summer.
Work/Study: Presentation of musical tradition of participants’ respective countries and presenting their instruments will open the musical colony. Later, participants will exchange their own experiences and work together. In the meantime they will organize performance of folk songs and create a group concert with material recorded on a tape. Accommodation: in the houses of the host – students’ families or in households which are engaged in country tourism, in the town Kosjeric, famous as tourist center in western Serbia because of its untouched nature, monuments and as a place of unique culture and preserved tradition.

SR 6.5 OBEDSKA BARA, Obrez      ENVI     04/08 - 14/08  15vols
Obedska Bara, an oxbow lake surrounded with marsh and forest habitats, is famous as an ornithological reserve. It is one of the oldest protected areas in the world and a wetland of international importance (listed as a Ramsar site). Wetlands are among the worlds most threatened ecosystems and this one has been gravely degraded, the most important problem being the overgrowing and disappearance of wet meadows.
Work: Vols will be included in the project of wet meadows revitalization by removing tree branches and clearing other vegetation. This will be the fifth camp we organize here; so far because of our activities several bird species have returned.
Study: Lectures on wetlands and Obedska Bara's recent environmental problems will be given. Excursion to medieval churches and a fortress in the area, a visit to the local bread museum and a trip to nearby Belgrade are foreseen as well. Vols can also swim in the lake and river Sava, row a boat across the lake, watch the birds and explore the beautiful nature of the area. Accommodation: in the hotel “Obedska bara”. Food will be provided in the hotel restaurant.

SR 6.6 GRZA, Paracin    ENVI     10/08 - 20/08  30 vols
Grza well is one of the largest karst springs in Serbia. It is located near the town Paracin in Central Serbia. In last 15 years maintenance of Grza has been completely neglected. Mountaineers home and the track to the spring are in very bad shape. Intensified unplanned building of summer cottages ruins the environment and illegal tree cutting intensifies erosion.
Work: Project consists of several phases: making paths for mountain bikes, the school of medical plants, vegetation clearing.
Excursion: Visits to monasteries in surrounding area, tracking tours and visits to a nearby villages, museum of Paracin and swimming pool are planned.
Location: Grza is situated 25 km away from Paracin and 3km from the nearest village Accommodation: In the mountaineer’s cottage; a local cook will prepare the food.

SR 6.7 GRADAC, Valjevo     ENVI     20/08 – 29/08   8vols
The programme will be organized in the Protected area “Gorge of the river Gradac” with extraordinary natural and cultural values. Supervision of Protected area (ranger service), cleaning and arrangement of riverbanks and paths in Gorge of river Gradac and working in watermill are some of the vols tasks. Series of lectures on the sites of Valjevo and on the Protected area Gradac are study part of the camp. There will be several excursions organized in Valjevo area. Moreover, introductory courses in horseback riding, and sports fishing are planned. Accommodation: All participants will be accommodated in the most beautiful building of the gorge, which has three rooms, equipped kitchen, an office and a toilet outside the building.

SR 6.8 PETNICKA PECINA, Valjevo  ENVI     25/08 - 07/09 15vols
Petnicka pecina (Petnica’s cave) is situated in the western part of Serbia. The Cave is very significant speleological object, 580 m long. It has several canals and halls, a sub-surface lake and a strong spring which comes out of it. It is also interesting as an archaeological object since the first excavations here, performed 100 years ago confirmed that it was the habitat of the Paleolithic man. A picnic place in a beautiful setting, just a few years ago, the cave is in pretty neglected condition now: the lights in the cave are broken, the drain canal is clogged, entrances in the cave are overgrown by weed and the garbage is all over the cave and its surrounding.
Work: Vols will clean the drainage ditch (which takes part of the water from the cave) the cave surroundings and the old watermill; they will cultivate vegetation, set up the information tables, benches and garbage cans.
Study and excursion: Workshops on spatial planning and landscape architecture of the Petnica’s cave complex are planned.
Special requirements: Since the preferences will be given to the young people with special interests in architecture, landscape architecture, spatial planning and environment,
a motivation letter is necessary.
Excursion to the monastery in the Gradac river gorge; visits to nearby sports centre with swimming pools, Petnica’s lake and the town Valjevo are foreseen.
Location: Petnicka cave is situated in the western part of Serbia, 7,5 km from town Valjevo.
