Children home “Spriditis” KIDS
PLACE:
Children home
“Spriditis” is located in beautiful city near the sea – Jurmala. Jurmala,
a resort town possessing 150-year-old resort traditions, occupies approximately
one-tenth part of the coastal line. Jurmala is the place for a city dweller
tired of life to reacquire the feeling of being the Nature's child. Here
fresh sea wind will fill people lungs and make them dizzy with the smell
of pines, the eyes will rest in the blue of the sea, the feet will sink
in the soft golden sand…
Now, after
the 50-year-long isolation, various generations from various countries
may enjoy the special gentle charm, curative waters and mud baths of Jurmala
again …
Jurmala with
its romantic wooden houses in art nouveau (Jugendstyle), its spacious beaches,
forests, and calmly flowing Lielupe river is especially attractive in the
modern world of standards, because it has not lost its singularity.
The municipal children home “Spriditis” is established in 2000, and celebrates its birthday on October 13. The home hosts 60 children of Jurmala, aged 8 through 18.
WORK:
Main
activities of volunteers will be teaching English to children, different
activities with children participation, organizing sport games and other
exercises and helping in exchange of interests and information among the
youth.
ACCOMODATION:
In children’s
home. Food prepared by staff.
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
There will
be such possibility to visit the capital of Latvia – Riga (30 minutes by
train), as well excursion to Jurmala city, rest in the beach, different
kind of attractions – foe example, water-motorcycle.
!!! Those young
people, who have some experience working with children or on organizing
activities for them, will be especially welcomed.

Gaujas National Park ENVI
PLACE:
Gaujas
National Park is the biggest and most beautiful Latvia’s Nature Protection
Park. It is a unique nature complex formatted by geological processes and
there is no analogue in whole territory of the Baltic – the valley of Gauja
River with valleys of many tributaries and side ravines. Gaujas National
Park is a residence of rare and protected animals and plants and an open-air
museum for culture and history monuments, as well. It has nearly one century
long experience in nature conservation as well as more than century long
tourism traditions.
WORK:
Landscape
works in pueblos, footpath improve, cleaning of forests and meadows, landscape
building, work at animal open-air cages in Ligatne Education and Playland,
cleaning of Gauja riverside by boating.
ACCOMODATION:
At school.
Food prepared by staff.
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
There will
be given possibility to visit very beautiful and old towns as Sigulda and
Cesis, Turaida’s castle, ?rai?u lake-castle and windmill, as well. You
will have an opportunity to visit training and recreation park of Ligatne,
where are fenced areas for wild animals, Botanical trail, Nature route
for visitors with cars, Fairy-tale trail and Virgin nature trail. As well
we will offer you orienteering competition on Gauja river and great (unforgettable)
national sauna party. At the end of this camp you will have opportunity
to visit the capital of Latvia – Riga.
(If possible,
we kindly ask you to take your tents with you for free-time activities,
but that is just optional request).

LV 03 19.08-26.08. 4 VOLS
Children home “Lejasstrazdi”, Engure KIDS/ENVI
PLACE:
Camp will take
place in Engure district, small village Abragciems.
It has become
a tradition, that children form child’s house “Lejasstrazdi”, which take
place in the heart of Latvia, every summer go to camp in Abragciems at
the sea. This place is quite virgin region; children are living in
ecologically pure environment, close to the nature. The village is based
near the Baltic Sea. All around you can find little piscatorial hamlets
and little ports, also. We offer to work-camp participants living in environment
friendly circumstances, possibility to teach children and learn by yourself,
how to live along to nature, and enhance the environment sense.
WORK:
Main activities
of volunteers are: organisation of different activities with children participation,
organisation sport games, excursions and games in forest. Through different
activities and non-formal learning volunteers will be asked to teach children
English. Together with children and teachers there will be possibility
to organise different excursions, for example, there are small harbours,
and the management of children home offers the chance to go sail. Volunteers
together with teachers are kindly asked to organize different kind of educational
activities – panel games etc., in order to approximate participants of
the camp to nature and nature protection. Volunteers will go hiking and
berry. At the end of the camp, volunteers are asked to organize the
masquerade for children and as follows – help to make guises for children
and themselves.
ACCOMODATION:
Living seems
to be very simple – you will sleep in house on the mat, that’s why you
are asked to take your sleeping bags with you. In this house there is no
shower, so volunteers will be taken to camping, where shower will be available
(it means that it is not possible every day). At the camp place will
be possibility to boil the water, as well as sea is 100 m away for swimming.

FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
Children’s
home will organize for volunteers’ different excursions; for example, to
go to the cape of Kolka that is the farthermost North point of Latvia,
where connect Baltic gulf to Baltic sea. Also, excursion to cape Mersrags
will be organised, that is really picturesque place at the Baltic Sea.
Volunteers will have chance to see some piscatorial hamlets and little
ports, as well as to go sailing. Last two days there participants will
spend in the capital of Latvia – Riga.
LV 04 15.07 – 29.07 5 VOLS
Children’s home “Selga”, Ventspils KIDS
PLACE:
Childs’s home
“Selga”, which is based in Ventspils city near the sea, organises the camp
for its children 36 km out of the city every year. Participants and
volunteers will live there for 2 weeks. The sea and dunes with beautiful
beach is very close. This territory is famous historical place – settlements
of olden kin. That is grate possibility to live in undamaged environment,
where are so many interesting historical monuments.
ACCOMODATION:
Volunteers
will live together with children in rest-house built by Sweden financial
support for youth and children camps and other activities. House is built
in very peaceful and beautiful place approximately 100 m from the sea.
Volunteers will live in rooms (3-4 people in each).

WORK:
The main activity
during those two weeks is to make the time spent in camp like an adventure
both children and teachers and participants. Volunteers will
have constancy for their ideas – how to manage and organize the camp. You
are welcomed to organize different kind of activities for children – sport
games, for example, volleyball on the beach, competitions, panel games,
dancing classes, as well as activities in painting and drawing etc.
Also, we think that it would be very interesting to teach children how
to prepare national dishes of your country. Also, there will be the
possibility to arrange activities in nature – for example, hiking along
the shore, orientation and relay-races.
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
You have a
chance to spend your free time on the beach, and there will be organised
one trip to the biggest port-city in Latvia – Ventspils, that is one of
the most developed cities in Latvia for the moment. You will visit different
kind of environmental objects; volunteers can visit the lighthouse, which
is built not far away from place of camp. You can visit museums and get
a lot of interesting information about old pueblos. Last days of a camp
volunteers will go to visit capital of Latvia – Riga.
LV 05 01.07-15.07 10 VOLS
Tourism footpath, Liep?jas region, Nica ENVI / RENO
PLACE:
N?ca is little
village, which is based in Liepaja city district at the sea. This
region is very clean because of many organisations and people that take
care of nature protection and sustainable development of tourism. With
a help of Nica’s parish board there will be organised the camp with the
participation of 5 local people that are working in nature protection field
in this area. According this camp, we hope to help youth from different
countries to change their experience as well as in common work and rest
to show the nature of the region, most beautiful tourism objects and tell
about importance of nature protection. There are a lot of tourism objects,
tourism lanes, resting-places and bikeways that need renewal.
ACCOMODATION:
Volunteers
will live in social flat, where are 4 rooms and kitchen. You are asked
to take your sleeping bags with you.
WORK:
The main work
will be connected to improvement of tourism lanes and resting-places –
mounting of reference signs and stairways, as well as renewal of resting-place
and auto-park by the sea, at links and other tourism objects.
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
In your free
time local people will show you the most beautiful tourism places in the
region; in 2 days we plan the boating trip to Barta River and another 2
days trip from piscatorial hamlet Pape to Jurmalciems along the sea. In
free time you will have wonderful possibility to rest on the beach. We
offer different kind of sport activities – volleyball, basketball, night
ran in the forest and other games and adventures that will be organised
by local people. Last day of a camp volunteers will spend in the
capital of Latvia – Riga.

PLACE:
Center for
street children “Together with us” is located in Riga. Every year this
center organises summer camp for street children with different problems
– social disadvantage children (unfavourable families, dependence on gambling
etc). There are about 30 – 40 children participating in this camp. Children
together with social workers are leaving Riga and are going to East part
of Latvia – district of Latgale. Camp is going to take a place in parish
Lauderi, not far away from border with Russia - in real country atmosphere.
This part of Latvia used to call “land of blue lakes”. It is rural area,
cities are rather small and urbanisation processes there are rare. This
is calm and beautiful place where children from such big and sometimes
depressing city can relax and live in real countryside atmosphere.
This region
of Latvia is not so high developed, but exactly because of this reason
it has not lost its primeval beauty.
WORK:
Main task of
volunteers will be to help children to enter in the new circumstances and
atmosphere. Volunteers will be asked to organise for children different
activities, especially sport activities, excursions, games and other activities
what will help to children find new interests and will help to negotiate
with different problems what children have had at home. Very important
task is communication with children in non-formal way in order to stimulate
to learn English.
ACCOMODATION:
In social home,
please take your sleeping-begs with you. Food prepared by staff.
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
There will
be organized excursions to different beautiful places in this district.
As well there will be possibilities to decide and plan together with children
which cities you would like to visit. Last day we will offer you to visit
and recreate yourselves in capital of Latvia – Riga.
