1. Program "Meetings
in the Countryside"
This programme
is based on projects aimed at helping small communities and developing
long-term co-operation between and within these communities. It contributes
to deepening our communication and co-operation with local people by giving
them the chance to air their views on how to best resolve local problems
and how to put these ideas into action with re-vitalisation and sustainable
life in mind. The programme may involve volunteers into the daily life
of the community and provide an opportunity for discussion and the comparison
of ideas, thus giving experience of country lifestyles whilst working for
the benefit of the local community.
This programme
of activities has arisen from a co-operation between INEX and STUZ (Society
for sustainable life style) in participation with local authorities and
inhabitants, local specialists, members of NGO, etc. Thanks to the kind
of work, thanks to art workshops (there is opportunity to get to know traditional
local craft), seminars, trips, excursions and games volunteers might get
a better understanding of the local problems (social problems, eco-environmental
and sustainability questions, self-administration problems) connected with
sustainable life style in the countryside and discuss them with local people
The inhabitants
of a the village have the opportunity to join camp seminars. This should
improve their inner relationship towards the village and the care for it.
The presence of the volunteers might increase self-confidence of inhabitants,
involves them into solution of problems and brings them new ideas. The
long term aim is not only to keep up increasing the number of camp seminars
in individual regions of the Czech Republic but to maintain the continuity
of care and interest in places where the camps were successful and where
the inhabitants joined the camp activities.
We are looking
for highly motivated and not spoilt volunteers.
Special project
Meetings in the Countryside

The programme
is aimed at promotion of the co-operation in the field of the protection,
care and documentation of historically significant locations. Included
in this are public places within the towns and minor architectural monuments
in the countryside such as crosses, sculptures, monuments. We also maintain
pilgrim roads, and the crosses and monuments found thereon. We focus on
the revitalisation and commemoration of our heritage and bringing back
awareness of traditions to our modern lives. This programme offers participants
the opportunity to discover historical sites and sample their atmosphere
or the atmosphere of the landscape influenced and created by human cultural
activity. Volunteers might meet daily problems connected with the protection
and maintenance of these sites. This programme as well as the programme
MEETINGS IN THE LANDSCAPE stresses a modest life style, respecting cultural
heritage, caring for the environment and the principals involved in a sustainable
lifestyle.
Special project
The Life of a Medieval Village is focused on reconstruction of early medieval
objects. As well as the "Meeting in the Countryside" this project is specialised
on so-called simple life within the experimental medieval village and beautiful
countryside. It tries to teach young generation substantial values of the
village lifestyle close to nature. The project works with the methods of
experimental archaeology which offer the experience of the work outdoors,
possibility to meet medieval agricultural technologies, to experience the
medieval lifestyle including craft (such as ceramics, folk domestic craft
etc.)
Another special
project pays attention to the particular former Jewish culture in CR. Only
people aware of cultural traditions and values and with their own relationship
to the cultural history may be responsible for the surrounding environment
and subsequently able to create a healthy society.

Summer workcamp in Jirice is already in its fourth year. Its main priority
lies in the restauration of two old cemeteries – a Jewish and German one.
The reconstrucion itself, deciphering of the epitaphs, talks with the locals,
and research in all possible institutions and sources did and still does
reveal a very interesting history of the village. Our goal these days is
to uncover these forgotten histories, bring them back to life and press
for their general acceptance. As a priority we see the development of a
still better contact with the villagers themselves. We are also striving
to track down some of descendants of the dead (Izrael, Germany) and invite
them over during the camp. Apart from manual work at the cemetaries there
is usually an additional relevant programme organized by coordinators (lectures,
literary/arts workshops, field trips, as well as sports and socializing
in the pub or the local wine cellars).

is designed to help in the humanitarian and social field. The aim is to
provide voluntary work in the communities and centres that work with and
take care of the handicapped, both adults and children, children with special
needs and learning difficulties, senior citizens in difficult life situations,
drug addicts and former drug users. These centres are there to help with
the re-integration of those people into normal society. Primarily the programme
provides manual work such as the building of new centres, however, we consider
it very important to try to integrate the volunteers into the everyday
life of the centre or community. With this in mind we expect
and accept extremely motivated people, preferably with previous experience
of work in these fields to take part in this programme. The programme also
makes space and time for the exchange of experience in the international
context.
