Workcamp together with refugees
The association offers in the region
of Basel a structure for jobless asylum seekers, where they can structure
their daily life in a sensible way. Strudel is offering german classes,
computer lessons, a Kindergarten for the kids and different cultural events
to the refugees. These possibilities cannot be offered during the holidays.
For this time refugees from the strudel will work together with SCI volunteers
at the Alpe Loasa, in the southern part of Switzerland. Since 1984,
the biological mountain farm Alpe Loasa is put back to life by the people
from the co-operative and volunteers from all over the world. Different
animals live on the farm: cows, chicken, pigs, donkeys.

CH 1.2 Eichlitten, Transit Centre
for Refugees 14/07 - 27/07 8 vols
In Switzerland, asylum seekers pass
their first month in so-called "Transit Centres".
Life is dominated by narrowness,
waiting and uncertainty.
Around 90 people, both Families and
solitary people, live in Eichlitten. The aim of this camp is to organise
activities with and for them to spend an interesting and joyful time.
Even though SCI-volunteers will be
supported by staff members, motivation and the ability of doing something
on your own initiative are very important.

CH 1.3 Anzère, Refugee children 21/07-02/08

All refugee centres of canton (district)
of Valais organise two weeks of holidays for 70-90 refugee children. They
will be divided in two groups - 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 years old - and animated
by the refugees themselves and some other responsible persons. The holiday
house is situated in the mountains 1500m. high.

Vols will be with the children from morning to evening, they are very demanding,
so we need motivated vols!

CH 1.4 Embrach, Transit Centre for
Refugees 04/08 - 17/08 7 vols
Asylum seekers live during 6 to 8
months in so called "Transit Centres". There are up to 120 people in Embrach,
mostly unmarried men, but also families with children. During this first
time the refugees don't get the permission to work. Uncertainty about the
future and boredom are typical of the daily life of the refugees. Games
and sport during the camp should give a change. The volunteers will be
supported by professional staff, but your own initiative is very important.

CH 2.1 Geneva, Mandat International

Mandat International is the Geneva
based non-governmental organization which manages the Welcome Centre for
Non-Governmental Organizations and Delegations. It aims at upholding the
participation of non-governmental delegations at international conferences;
bringing the different areas of activity of the international scene closer;
and promoting co-operation between NGOs. By helping delegates in their
daily procedures and reducing their accommodation costs, we hope to establish
more equity in the relations between the "North" and the "South".

the organizer of a preparatory conference for the World Civil Society Forum.
The preparatory conference will take place in Geneva between the 14th and
the 19th of July 2002. It will gather NGOs and international organizations.
The volunteers will help us to organize the conference. They will help
to welcome and inform the participants, to do the badgering, to make copies
of documents, to prepare the rooms for the conference, etc.. They will
have the opportunity to meet and help NGO representatives working in various
areas.

CH 3.1 Broc, Peace Village 18/08

Broc is situated in the French part
of Switzerland, between Fribourg and Lausanne in an agricultural area in
the middle of green hills, 700 m high. The village is near the lake of
Gruyères.
Created in 1983 the association "peace
village" works for the construction of peace. Their keywords are: solidarity,
non-violence, intercultural exchanges, simplicity, spirituality.
After the notice to quit and one
year without home, the association has fond 4 buildings in the village
of Broc that are being renovated. There are only a few people living in
the centre, most of the members are coming on weekends or during holidays.
The centre tries to link spirituality with political activities. "Peace
village" offers courses around peace issues and is an open house for groups
and individuals. One of the main project is training in non-violence and
solving of conflicts for young people (schools, youth groups etc.).

CH 4.1 Lenz, Holiday Camp with handicapped
people 03/08 - 17/08 5 vols
A group of mentally handicapped adults
is going to spend their holidays in "Lenz" canton of Grison. The volunteers
will accompany the handicapped during their holidays and will run a free
time program with the help of professional members from the group.

CH 6.1 Neuchâtel, Biosem 23/06 -

Families and unmarried persons are
united in the community "Chambrelien". They limit their work outside the
community voluntarily. All the work within the community are shared in
a spirit of justice. The members of the community align their live to certain
values: spiritual life in a christian tradition, open to different ways;
non-violence; the search of a certain simplicity and a sustainable development.
Inside the community exists the family
enterprise "Biosem", which is looking for biological seeds, which they
cultivate and sell.

CH 6.2 Robasacco, Chestnut wood 07/07-21/07

The projectpartner is working on
the topic of chestnut woods in the South of Switzerland. The chestnut wood
in Robasacco is a very beautiful place. The project is cleaning the wood;
recreates them like a parc, is picking up the fruits and is looking for
the animals. They are working in the tradition of the Italian part of Switzerland
and they respect the nature in not using chemical support.

In Ogna a southern, steep slope at
the beginning of the Centovalli in the italian speaking part of Switzerland,
a pioneer project in should be continued in a way of permacultural landscape-gardening.

CH 6.4 Hinterkappelen, Permaculture

Close to Bern the group "Per Culturas"
is responsible for a beautiful small peace of land. Per Culturas means
"through cultures" / "integrate different ideas of culture". People interested
in gardening, ecology, nature protection and design started this group
in 1994. The aim of the project is to build up a garden which contains
the most important permaculture elements (such as sun-trap, herb-spiral,
forest-garden). It should become a place where other people can learn and
see how such elements are built and that they really work in reality.

CH 6.5 Lengwil, Organic farm with
handicapped people 04/08-24/08 8 vols
The "Ekkharthof" is a home for mentally
or physically handicapped people (mainly adults, about 80 people) close
to Konstanz. It is run according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner. It
consists of a living house, school facilities, workshops and an organic
farm. During this camp you will be working on the organic farm, which is
located a bit outside. 6 of the handicapped people live and work on the
farm. 3 families with children are living there as well and are responsible
for the whole farm. Dairy, meat, vegetables and crops are produced mainly
for internal use.

CH 6.6 Guggisberg (Canton of Bern),

For some years now, in a remote place
in the hills there is a community devoting themselves to arts and crafts,
organic farming and building houses in Celtic style, using traditional,
natural materials. Each summer, they also organise a small festival with
folk music from all over the world.

stabilization work for the "Celtic house", building of a bridge in an imitation
of a neolithic settlement (at the lake Neuchâtel).

CH 6.7 Wellberg, Willisau 11/08

The Peter farm, although a little
isolated, is located in the middle of a green oasis in central Switzerland.
The traditional Swiss farmhouse was built in 1813. This 25-hectare organic
farm is mostly self-sufficient and includes cows, fowl, a horse, a garden
and cultivated fields.
W: The facade of the farmhouse will
have to be replaced with new wood shingles. The work includes removing
the old shingles. This old handicraft, which hardly exists anymore in Switzerland,
is an art in itself and it will be done under the supervision of professionals.
The actual work is easy but demands detailed attention. Other chores will
involve work in the stable, in the garden, or in the fields.

the international level with the FAO and founded the Farmwomen's Network,
is looking forward, together with her husband, to a lively exchange of
ideas.

CH 6.8 Vitznau, Community «Gruebisbalm»

On the south-side of the mountain
Rigi, on a sunny plateau about 450m above the village of Vitznau, overlooking
the lake "Vierwaldstättersee", lies the remote farm of "Gruebisbalm". Woods,
pastures, caves, some of them being used by men thousands of years ago,
and a small river with a waterfall, which can be used as an open air shower,
add to the beauty of this place. The community is doing social work and
organic farming, which includes a garden and some cows, for self-consumption
and for sale.

CH 6.9 Menzonio, Cooperativa Pianta

The little farm is located in the
beautiful Val Maggia in the Italian part of Switzerland. For 5 years the
farm is managed by the co-operative "Pianta Monda" following biological
principles. The people from the co-operative have a simple life. They want
the farm to become a place for social and cultural exchange.

CH 8.1 Muzzano, farm "l'Orto" 04/08-31/08

The association "l'Orto" combines
the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggfruit, salad and other vegetables
with the support and integration of persons with social problems, who are
employed by the farm. The volunteers will participate in the different
activities of the community and will work together with the employed, socially
disadvantaged persons. To support the communication, there will be a short
Italian course at the beginning of the camp.

Atelier Berzona is an alternative
international community in the southern part of Switzerland. Groups, individuals,
SCI volunteers and people in therapy are living there for short or longer
periods. This unique "life school" give the opportunity to work with ecological
ways of construction.
