Work:
This year for the 13th time Missie
en Jongeren (Mission and Youth) organises it’s Wereldfestival, a multicultural
musicfestival in the castle gardens of Gemert. The participants will help
to build up the festival together with 2 other groups of volunteers: Dutch
youth and young refugees. Besides work there will be enough time to visit
performances.
The last few days of the workcamp
the participants will do social work for another organisation, like a centre
for homeless or an Emma?s community.

SIW 2 MUNDIAL 08/06-

Work:
Festival Mundial is a yearly organised
multicultural music and art festival. The work consists of assistance in
building up stages and stands and pulling them down. Furthermore the participants
will help with catering: preparing breakfast, lunch and diner for the other
volunteers working at the festival. Besides work there will be enough time
to visit performances.

Special notes:
We are looking for enthousiastic,
representative and flexible participants, who are willing to put their
shoulder to the wheel. Take unregular working hours and hard work into
consideration: sometimes you need to rush from here to there, but it could
also happen that you have to wait for work for a while.
SIW 3 ITTEREN Maastricht

Work:
The participants will live and work
together with the Emma?s community Hartelstein, a centre for the homeless.
The aim of Emma?s is to help those who suffer most, and to fight against
the causes of suffering, poverty, injustice and pollution. The work consists
of helping in the organisation of the yearly held festivity market. Volunteers
can also help sorting second hand goods. During the festival participants
will organise activities for and with children.
Theme:
Poverty and social inequality.
Accommodation:
In the farmhouse Emma?s Hartelstein.
The life-style of Emma?s is sober; the use of alcohol and drugs is not
allowed. Self-catering.
Location:
Itteren, a small village near Maastricht,
in the southern Province of Limburg.
Terminal:
Maastricht.
SIW 4 AMERPOORT 29/06

Work:
About 400 mentally and physically
disabled people are staying in the Amerpoort centre. The aim of Amerpoort
is to integrate the inhabitants in the village of Baarn. The centre functions
as a normal quarter of Baarn, with shops, a farm and a restaurant. The
work consists of helping disabled people with recreational activities.
Part of the activities are individual, like going for a walk with one of
the inhabitants. Volunteers also assist and participate in group activities,
such as music, theatre, disco dancing, games and day trips.
Theme:
Disabled people and sports.
Accommodation:
In a farm at Nieuwenoord, a large
resort including a recreation centre, a monastery and a swimming pool.

Baarn, near Amersfoort and Hilversum
in the Province of Utrecht.

Special notes:
Volunteers who are very motivated
to work with disabled people and with some experience in this work are
welcome.

Work:
In cooperation with Foundation for
Preservation of Small Landscape Elements. Maintenance work along the banks
of an old drainage canal. The participants will cut trees from the banks
and build little dams with it. They will also mow overgrowth using a scythe
and remove topsoil from the bottom.
Theme:
Environmental policy and the concern
of people with their environment.
Accommodation:
In youth center De Widdonck.
Location:
The small village of Heibloem near
Weert in the Province of Limburg.
Terminal:
Weert.

Work:
In cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer,
the National Forestry Department. Together with De Wieden this nature
reserve is the most important swamp area of North Western Europe. Several
stages in the development from open water to swamp forest can be seen in
this vulnerable area. Participants will make hay in the wetlands, cut back
branches and do maintenance work in a duck habitat.

Accommodation:
In a farmhouse in the area. Self
catering.
Location:
Near Zwolle, in the Province of Overijssel.

Steenwijk.

At the camping farm volunteers have
to be silent after 10 pm.
Work:
In cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer,
the National Forestry Department. The volunteers will be working in one
of the most beautiful and unique forests in the Netherlands. A lot of special
flora and fauna is concentrated in this area. In order to restore the natural
values of this nature reserve, the volunteers will be making hay, cleaning
out small patches of land, removing topsoil and digging ditches for drainage
to rivervalley.
Theme:
Efficient wateruse and clean water
in nature reserves.
Accommodation:
In a cottage of the Forestry Department.
Self-catering.
Location:
Langelo, a small village in the north,
near the cities of Assen and Groningen, in the Province of Drenthe.
Terminal:
Assen.

Work:
In cooperation with Refugee Centre
Burgum. The work consists of organizing activities (sports, games, handicraft)
with and for children and young refugees between 12 and 18 years old.
Theme:
The theme will be connected to the
activities.
Accommodation:
At the refugee centre. Breakfast
and lunch will be provided by the centre. Participants prepare diner together.
Location:
Burgum, a city in the northern Province
of Friesland.
Terminal:
Leeuwarden.
Special notes:
Minimum age is 20. Volunteers who
are very motivated to work with young refugees are welcome.
SIW 10 GUISVELD 10/08

Work:
Guisveld is a typically Dutch nature
reserve. With its abundance of water, surrounding the numerous small islands,
it boasts a unique range of flora and fauna. In cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer,
the National Forestry Department, the participants will do a lot of haymaking,
to keep the soil in good condition. Since much of the area is very wet
and soggy, this must be done manually. Also overgrowth has to be removed
from trees.
Theme:
Nature in relation to expanding cities.
Accommodation:
A renovated old farmhouse. Self-catering.
Location:
Westzaan is an area made up of some
7 villages of varying sizes. With its many windmills, the area is known
as the oldest (17th century) Dutch industrial area. It is close to cities
like Amsterdam, Haarlem and Alkmaar.
Terminal:
Wormerveer.

Work:
Groote Peel is a beautiful nature
area in the southeast of the Netherlands.
In co-operation with the Staatsbosbeheer,
the National Forestry Department, the participants will cut and saw small
trees and build a wooden rope-bridge.

Work:
The old nature reserve De Vlietlanden
is one of the last ‘floating’ meadowlands in the Netherlands, with many
small canals. In cooperation with Natuurmonumenten, an association that
devotes itself to the preservation of nature, the participants will make
hay, fertilize the meadowlands and maintain the dit-ches.
Theme:
Water use and environment.
Accommodation:
A scouts building in Vlaardingen.
Self-catering.
Location:
Vlaardingen, a town near Rotterdam.
Terminal:
Vlaardingen-Oost (East).
SIW 13 SCHALKHAAR 2 weeks

Work:
In cooperation with Refugee Centre
Schalkhaar. About 600 people are staying in this centre, waiting for the
result of their request for political asylum in the Netherlands. The whole
process can take more than a year. The work consists of organizing all
kinds of activities for and with young refugees between 10 and 16 years
old, some of whom came to the Netherlands without any relatives.
Theme:
Intercultural communication
Accommodation:
In a building at the centre. Self-catering.
Location:
Schalkhaar, about 1 km from the city
Deventer, in the Province of Overijssel.

Special notes:
Minimum age is 21. Volunteers who
are very motivated to work with young refugees are welcome. Volunteers
have to take a TB test and send the testresult to SIW at least two weeks
before the project starts.

Work:
Noorderzon is a yearly held music-
and theaterfestival, which takes place in and around a public park in the
city of Groningen. The performances form a surprising mix of dance, theater,
cabaret, circus, stand-up comedy, multimedia, visual arts and music from
all corners of the world. The work consists of assistance in preparing
and decorating the festival area, building up stages and stands and pulling
them down. Furthermore the participants will help with serving at the bar.
Besides work there will be enough time to visit performances.
Theme:
The campleaders will do some brainstorming
together with the participants.
Accommodation:
In a youthhostel.
Location:
Groningen, a city in the north of
the Netherlands.
Terminal:
Groningen Central Station.
Special notes:
We are looking for flexible participants,
who sometimes need to rush from here to there and other moments have to
wait for work for a while.

Work:
From 1865 until 1983 bricks were
made in the traditional way. Nowadays Panoven and the shed behind it are
on the list of national monuments and historic buildings and it serves
as a museum illustrating the art and craft of brickmaking. The participants
will construct a roof on an old shed with original old rooftiles. Furthermore
they will arrange and paint the workshop and tool corner.
anoven offers ample room for activities
like rowing, swimming, watercycling, 2 tennis courts, table tennis, volleyball,
bee house, candle making, cycling and walking tours.
Theme:
The elements water, earth, wind and
fire.
Accommodation:
In a renovated horse stable.
Location:
Zevenaar, a city in the east of the
Netherlands, near Arnhem.

People that would like to visit to
enjoy the liberal Dutch drug policy, we strongly advise not to participate
in a workcamp but just visit Amsterdam for some weeks.

do refugees live, sometimes for years, till they get an answer in their
case. You should be prepared that the kids/AMAs live in a difficult situation
and some of them are traumatized, so they might ask more energy than other
kids/youngsters. We ask for flexible volunteers with affinity and experience
in working with kids/youngsters.
W: organise sports and games for
80 kids who live at the AZC. Dokkum is a small remote village in the north
of Holland. Accommodation: inside. Not accessible for wheelchairs.

NL-VIA 2.1 De Keilbout 04/08 - 17/08

The Keilbout is a Dutch Tools for
Solidarity organisation that collects and repairs tools to send to projects
in Africa and South America, asking for these tools. The Keilbout is located
in Nijmegen in the east of the Netherlands. The work will be either helping
to paint and built their new accommodation, or, if the accommodation is
not yet available, help in repairing tools.
NL-VIA 10.1 De Wonne (Enschede) 12/08-24/08

Mixed age camp
De Wonne, situated in a former convent,
is a community inspired on Fransiscus of Assissi, where people as much
as possible live from the waste of the society. The community consist of
some permanent occupants and a number of temporary occupants that
with several reasons need a place to live.
Work: painting and work in the garden
of a building that since short belongs to De Wonne.
NL-VIA 10.2 Waldeck Pyrmontkade 14/08-31/08

This building in The Hague is bought
by the inhabitants of a squat, as their squat will be torn down. They want
to use this building to start a new living-/workingcommunity, with space
for bands to practice, an organic restaurant and more... The volunteers
will do renovation work
like constructing a fireproof ceiling,
deepening the basement and other jobs. Please bring your own mattress and
sleeping bag. This camp is not accessible to volunteers in wheelchairs.
NL-VIA 11.1 Op Herme (Ell) 11/08

'Op Herme' is a rest house for old
horses and a fosterhome for 8 children. The volunteers will help renovate
a stable and work in the garden. In the stable regularly concerts and pianorecitals
are organized to raise money for the horse- and ponyresthouse. It is also
the central place of the annual fair that will be organized the 28th august.
Chaos tolerance, affection with children & animals and no animal allergies
desirable.
NL-VIA 11.2 De Brand 2 weeks, end
of June - beginning of July 8 vols
In a squatted farm in Hoenderloo,
a small village close to Apeldoorn, six people want to start several projects,
like an organic garden and a give-away-shop, where people can bring and
collect goods for free. The farm is located in a woody area of the Netherlands,
close to national park 'De hoge veluwe'. The work will be building a shed,
where the shop will be located, and some other jobs in the garden and the
house. At the end of the camp will be a celebrational opening of the give-away-shop.
The theme of the camp is (over)consumption. Volunteers will sleep in tents
and have to bring their own mattress and sleeping bag. The camp is not
accessible to volunteers with wheelchairs.
