HELPING IN A BIG YOUTH CONGRESS IN MORELIA CITY, CAPITAL OF THE STATE OF MICHOACAN
WORK:
The institute for the promotion of activities for the youngsters in Morelia realized many different things inside the city to involve many youngsters in cultural, ecological and social activities. Every year many events are organized and in this year the institute wants to invite a group of international volunteers to help in the organization and to take part in a youth congress in the city of Morelia.
The volunteers will help in the logistic tasks of the event and they will participate together with Mexican youngsters in activities such as organization, preparation of sceneries, organization of concerts, and if there is time enough in reforestation activities.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in a house of the city.
LOCATION:
Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacan. Founded almost  500 years ago as one of the first cities built by the Spanish conquerors, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars cafes etc). The city's populations is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35? C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to  visit, such as Patzcuaro, and the ancient Purepecha capital Tzintzunzan.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
WORK:
The Pre-Columbian culture “Otomi” has lived there for ancient times. Their Ceremonial Center is just 30 minutes away from the workcamp. There is a river that flows down that mountain across the Otomi?s Ceremonial Center. That river has been polluted and depleted by local Otomies inhabitants, the wrong planning of the town’s sewage and the people’s ignorance. The river is the principal water resource for this ecosystem, and the water supply of one community.  The volunteers will help to restore the natural flow of the rivers and streams around the community, detect the pollution sources and foster people’s awareness of the
damage to our environment.
Exploration of the river and identification of pollution sources along the stream meanders. Restoration of the river’s natural flow, creation of natural leaf beds, construction of rock barriers, the mud’s dragging and garbage pick up.
Volunteers will help out with environmental education in the Otomi community nearby. There are no signs to express the concern about this problem.
ACCOMODATION:
The volunteers will be staying in a rental house with all the facilities.  The house is located 5 minutes away from the river and 30 minutes away from Mexico City
LOCATION:
Santa Ana Jilotzingo is a village of 25,000 people located 30 minutes away from Mexico City in the northern part of the metropolitan area.  It’s a town in the State of Mexico with an average temperature of 18 Celsius degrees, even though it can drop to 10 ?C or rise to 25 C. It is 2,500 meters above sea level and part of a perennial woods ecosystem.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND COORDINATION ACTIVITIES
WORK:
One of the aims of the project is to foster a better education of the visitors to the zoological zones, as well as to give an example of international voluntary service to motivate the national volunteers.
Develop creative ideas to improve the conditions of the animals at the zoo.
Create new plans of environmental education for the general audience of the zoo.
Construct an educative farm to teach children about domestic animals
Collaborate in the construction of future habitats for animal species in the zoo in reconstruction.
ACCOMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in The Gym of the Ecologic Park 18 de Marzo, also in the camping space inside the installations.
If the volunteers want to, they can camp in the facilities of the park.  Nevertheless the gym is the designated space for them.
LOCATION:
Mexico city the biggest city in the world. There are all the services and many many activities to do. The first inhabitants of  this land may have arrived 20,000 years before Columbus. Their descendants, including the Mayan and Aztecs, built a succession of highly developed civilizations that flourished from 1200 BC to 1521 AC.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES TRAVELING IN DIFFERENT STATES OF MEXICO
WORK:
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  There is a need to raise awareness about the challenges in protecting mountain habitats and improving living standards in mountain communities.
1. Volunteers will receive a 1.5 days workshop about mountain sustainable development.
2. Volunteers will receive a 0.5 days workshop on the situation of mountains in Mexico.
3. Volunteers will receive a 0.5 day photo and art workshop.
4. Volunteers will travel to Mountains near three Mexican cities (Mexico City, Oaxaca and Guanajuato) to develop the following activities:
a. Build an action plan with local communities to improve the ecological and social environment of the mountain communities
b. Document the visit to the different venues by pictures and art done with help of local communities.
c. Climb hills and mountain and carry out activities related with the International Year of the Mountains.
Volunteers will prepare an exposition in Mexico City to present their results.
Children’s Peace Mail is a project of the Young Chapter of the UN in Mexico, it exchange drawings of children from all over around the world to foster a better understanding, friendship and peace among all.  In this project children from the different indigenous cultures in this 3 cities will exchange their drawings with the UN network in more than 60 countries.
LOCATION:
The project will be conducted in 3 of the most historical richest cities in the Mexican Republic:  Mexico City, the capital, Guanajuato, capital of the Guanajuato State and Oaxaca, capital of Oaxaca State.

WORK WITH ELDERLY PEOPLE
WORK
In the stages of the life of the human being,  getting old is not easy and can be very difficult for disadvantaged or lonely people, especially in south countries. To have a good quality of living, love and affection are very important.  This is why the houses for old people (in Spanish called ASILOS) had been created. The Asilo San Luis is a project organized in the ASILO DR. NICOLAS AGUILAR, a place where old people can go to get help, both physically and emotionally. In this frame a group of international volunteers is invited to help in this very meaningful labor. The volunteers can bring happiness and some light to the lives of these persons and also help to the working staff of the institution.
The volunteers will help with the physical exercises of the elderly people and help in the organization of activities and dynamics, also the volunteers will help to paint some areas of the building that need to be renovated.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will stay in the shelter next to the ASILO. It has all the facilities

The project will take place in the ASILO DR. NICOLAS AGULAR in the City of San Luis Potosi, State of San Luis Potosi at the North-West of Mexico. The native people come from the ethnic groups of the Huachichiles.
Population is of around 1 300 000 inhabitants. It has all the modern services (banks, internet, medical services, post offices, etc), it is one of the biggest town of Mexico. The average temperature is 36 Celsius Degrees and the city is 400 years old so it has a very old history and a very interesting culture.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND RESTORATION ACTIVITIES
WORK:
This project was created with the aim to rescue a park. It is obligated to rescue a so important green space in the North zone of Mexico City, it is the border with the industrial zone of Naucalpan and it is one of the last lungs of the north part of the city.  The importance of this cultural and ecological center in this area is vital for the quality of life of the inhabitants of this zone.
- General Cleaning of the park

- Painting of the areas in degradation
- Promotion of the park in all the city.

PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED SPECIES
WORK:
This project is  born from the necessity to make a census and the Habitat evaluation because it is needed to save the international fauna shared between Canada, USA and Mexico. Several bird species migrate from Canada and remain in Mexico.
Volunteers will help out with environmental education in the community nearby.
Direct and indirect observation of the species.
Maintenance work of the paths around Texcoco Lake.
The volunteers will take photographs and video to have a photograph catalog.
Design a guided tour across the flora and fauna of the place with specialist help.
Build up signs around the lake explaining the species characteristics and protecting messages.
They will have to catch some species, help to take some measurements, mark them and release them again.

LOCATION:
Texcoco,  one of the most famous municipality in Mexico City. The workcamp will take place in the areas next to Texcoco lake. Volunteers will also be working in two other municipalities San Salvador Atenco y Chimalhuacan Atenco
Texcoco was one of the main cities in the Pre-culumbian time. Tenochtitlan, Tlacopan and Texcoco made the triple-alliance against the Spaniards. Various arqueological sites can be found nearby, and luckily you can find some pre-Columbian handcrafts in the area.

These international youth workcamps will take place in different places in Michoacan, two projects of three weeks will be organized in each community. These two ones will take place in MORELIA.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES IN MORELIA CAPITAL OF MICHOACAN STATE
WORK
In Mexico there is a big necessity to encourage the participation of the youngsters in the solution of the local problems of their communities, but also to improve their self confidence in communities. In this frame, some workcamps named “International volunteer service project” will be organized in different places in Mexico to promote cultural workshops with the local youngsters. These activities will include the participation of groups of international volunteers. A strong interaction with the local youngsters will be encouraged and should lead to an unforgettable experience beyond the cultural, social or economical differences. Many topics interesting Youngsters from all over the world will be developed. There will be a great intercultural exchange.
The volunteers will help to organize different workshops with the local youngsters and will take part in them. There is also the possibility to organize some community work, but the real aim of this workcamp is the interaction with the local youngsters.

The lodging will be in a particular house in the city.

In Mier y Noriega community, there is a big necessity to promote the cultural activities such as theater, dance, music, painting, poetry etc. It is also necessary to  rescue the tradition of the handcraftsmen to encourage the creative potential of people of this community.
CEC y TE (Science and technology College of Nuevo Leon) wish to host a group of international volunteers to contribute on different topics, that motivate local creativity and willingness.
International volunteers, together with local youngsters, will help organizing recreational activities for children and create handicraft workshops. Volunteers will also participate in performances, musical and dance events. The Host school has already programmed a leisure plan too
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in a private house nearby the CECyTES, but no beds at disposal, so please do not forget to bring a sleeping bag and an air mat.

It is located in the state of Nuevo Leon (northern Mexico).  The village has basic services, but about 40 km from Mier y Noriega there is Dr. Arroyo, which is bigger with all services at disposal.  Mier y  Noriega is very small, as mentioned before, however there are interesting places to visit such as “El Pinal”, “El Parque Municipal”, “El Salto” among others. The average climate is around 30 Celsius degrees, dry and hot. People are very friendly and cooperative.

In the community of Mier y Noriega  it is important to promote the rational use of the natural resources to preserve the local environment and to create awareness among the population to protect their natural resources. In this frame, the local municipality wants to invite a group of enthusiastic volunteers to participate and help to organize different activities to help in this matters.
The volunteers Will help in reforestation activities in strategic zones of the community,  and also will help in recycling activities in the town. They will also help to organize and participate in workshops to protect the local fauna, together with local youngsters of the population.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in a private house nearby the CECyTES, but no beds at disposal, so please do not forget to bring a sleeping bag and an air mat.

The community of Mier y Noriega is located in a zone of Mexico where the climate is semi-desertic and it is important to give a rational use for the natural resources in the communities, and it is necessary to promote the reforestation activities among the local inhabits, under this frame, this community wants to involve a group of international volunteers in diverse activities to help in this necessities.
The volunteers will help in the reforestation of specific areas in the community and also together with local youngsters will help in different environmental activities.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in a private house nearby the CECyTES.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES AND ECOLOGICAL FESTIVAL
WORK
The Ecocenter, is a place built with the help of the Mexican, Canadian and British governments. This center was built with the aim to promote the awareness among the local inhabitants of the surrounding indigenous communities to have a rational use of the natural resources of their communities and also to promote activities to encourage the participation of the local people in the solution of the necessities of their towns.
The Ecocenter is also a place to learn about many topics related with the ecology and sustainable development from recycling techniques to techniques of ecological constructions.
This year the Ecocenter wants to invite a group of international volunteers to work in different activities, restoration and maintenance activities and also activities to help in the organization of an ecologic/cultural festival that is organized every year and where many people from the local villages are participating.
The volunteers will realize different activities. They will realize activities of maintenance of the Ecocenter, and they will help to promote and organize a cultural/ecological festival in the ecocenter.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in the Ecocenter, with all the facilities at disposal, including beds, there are all the services except electricity.
LOCATION
Uruapan is a small city built in a valley located in the north-east part of the sate of Michoacan. It counts with all the services (phone, medical services, fax, Internet etc. etc.), 15 minutes from this city is the Ecocentro del Cupatitzio where this workcamp is going to take place.
The Ecocentro is a centre which aim is to promote activities to help the environment and create consciousness in the people to have a less aggressive relationship with the nature. This centre promotes several activities to achieve this goal; from study meetings and discussions to practical projects, this center was built in a forest in a mountain in a very beautiful zone.
There are a lot of different ecological activities, from experiments to prevent the erosion to organic plots and recycling activities and local meetings.
The weather is a little bit cold at night so it is a good idea to bring a jacket but it?s a very beautiful place surrounded of nature.
The Ecocentro is very close of Uruapan City and also close to many touristic and beautiful places from waterfalls to archaeological ruins and historic buildings.

WORKING IN A NATURAL PARK AND WITH LOCAL INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
WORK
Due to the present situation of Natural and Cultural Resources, as well as for the development of indigenous communities of Mexico, the “Parque Nacional Lagunas de Montebello”’s team consider very important to work hard on the preservation of the natural resources as well as for the protection of the flora and fauna. in this frame, they want to host a group of international volunteers to help in different activities related to these necessities. The volunteers will help in activities to protect the environment but also in activities to create a new culture among the local inhabitants to protect their natural resources  and to use them more rationally.
During the 5 projects which will take place this year in the park, volunteers will help in a lot of different type of works: Reforestation of areas destroyed by the fire, maintenance work in the plant nurseries, painting and cleaning work in the structures of the park, cleaning some specific tourist areas 8taking of the garbage), collecting seeds, discussions with local inhabitants on topics like hygiene or preservation
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in the Park itself, in a greenhouse area with beds at disposal, and all the facilities.
LOCATION
The project will take place in the national park itself, at 1750 meters above sea level. The closest city is called Comitan and is at 45 minutes in a bus ride. There in Comitan there are all the services of the cities (telephone, fax, internet, banks, etc) but in the natural reserve there is only a medical service, in the reserve there is no phone, or fax or  post office services. Close to the reserve there are many interesting places from archaeological ruins in the jungle , lakes, rivers, waterfalls, caves, and also it is possible to go to Guatemala.
This zone of Chiapas is very important because during the revolution of Mexico, important battles took place there and also it is the settlement of many ethnic groups of Guatemala indigenous who still preserve their ancestral traditions.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
WORK:
The aim of this project is to restore and reforest ravaged areas for the Monarch butterfly. The people from the community nearby are not aware of the impact that their activities have to their environment and specifically to the migration of the Monarch butterfly. This project will help to decrease underhand cut down.
It will help the monarch butterflies, the community and the ecosystem.
The monarch butterfly has been declared as an specie worldwide protected, this butterfly migrates from Canada to Mexico, so the people that live across its way are going to be impacted.
Reforestation, Restoration of Monarch butterfly sanctuary buildings.
Help out with the ecological reserve activities.
ACCOMMODATION:
The volunteers will be staying in a rental house with all the facilities
LOCATION:
The project will take place in the community of Temascaltepec in Valle de Bravo Region. The average temperatures is 12 to 14 Celcius degrees and it is located at 2800 meters above the sea level, there are many interesting places to visit such as archaeological places. The workcamp will take place in an area where the ancient Mazahua culture has lived. Mazahua culture is a Pre-Columbian culture that still keep some of their old traditions. Most of them do agriculture.
Valle de Bravo was founded by General Bravo, a Mexican Independence hero. It is famous for its lake and the town that lies under its water because a flood drawn it.

SOCIAL AND SPORT ACTIVITIES IN MORELIA CITY, CAPITAL OF THE STATE OF MICHOACAN
WORK:
The local secretariat for the development of the city of MORELIA has many activities inside the urban areas and some of them are related with sport and help to handicapped people. In this frame they want to organize sport activities with local people of the different communities that surround the city (called tenencias in Spanish), and also they want to create some infrastructure to help the handicapped people. In this frame they are inviting a group of international volunteers to participate in this activities.
The volunteers will help in the organization of sport matches (and of course can take part in them) in local courts of the city and local communities to promote the interaction among the people of different communities. They will also help in the restoration of some areas used to promote sport activities.
The volunteers will participate in the creation of signs to help the handicapped people. These signs will be installed in different parts of the city.

PRESERVATION OF SEA TURTLES
WORK
Human ignorance and economical needs foster the uncontrolled exploitation of the sea turtle that arrives to this zone. This sea turtle camp wants to stop this infamous depletion and avoid the extinct peril for this species.
This project seeks for training the volunteers about biology and ecology of the sea turtles. Protecting the eggs laid by the Laud and Golfina turtles. This is a hard work as turtles are laying the eggs in the night till the sunrise. Volunteers are requested to watch them in the night, tag the turtle nests, cover the eggs, keep away the birds and other animals from the nests. Mark and measure the turtles. You must agree to work sleepless in the 2 consecutive nights and then have a free night, in turn with the other volunteers. There will be some day work as well. Some day work consists of patrolling the beach. You must liberate young turtles.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers must provide a tent and a sleeping bag, moreover we recommend that you bring a bed sheet with your air mattress or a roll mat if you have. There's no shower, to take a bath you'll have to take the water from a well and carry it and there is only one toilet. This is a kind of nature way of living.

Michigan Island also named “Isla de Pajaros”, near Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, which is a small town located 110 km from Acapulco by thoroughfare 200, Zihuatanejo route. The local secretariat for the development of the city has many activities inside the urban areas and some of them are related with the preservation of the cultural traditions and also the rescue of natural areas in the local communities that surround the city.
In this frame they want to invite a group of international volunteers to participate in different activities to preserve the cultural traditions and helping the maintenance, promotion and preservation of natural areas.
The volunteers will help to organize theater plays to involve local children, also in the communities there are people who play instruments so activities with different music events can be organized.
The volunteers will also take part in a program of activities to arrange the path that leads to a hidden waterfall called Waterfall of Chiquimitio. this is a beautiful hidden place, the objective is to make the first steps for the development of a tourist attraction for the benefit of the  local communities who can find in this way new incomes and jobs.

PRESERVATION OF BIRDS AND RADIO CAMPAIGN

CECyTE Oaxaca (Science and technology College of Oaxaca) is very concerned about environmental issues, which include birds. They wish to host a group of international volunteers to help out building wild bird refugees, as well as participating in radio campaign in order to make people more responsible about ecological problems that need to be solved.
International volunteers will build wooden bird refuges and will participate in the creation of radio spots and environmental topics about the region, which will be sent along 2002.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in a classroom of the school.
LOCATION
The project will take place in a 6,200 inhabitants community named Ixtlan de Juarez. It is located in the state of Oaxaca (southeastern Mexico)  2,030 meters above sea level.  The village is about 60 km from Oaxaca, which is the capital city of the State and considered one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, with all services at disposal. Ixtlan is an isolated village, however there are interesting places to visit such as “Museum of Biodiversity”, “Paraje los Arcos” and “Cerro del Cuachirindoo”, among others. There are interesting archeological sites to visit not very far from the village such as “Mitla” and “Montealban”. The average climate is around 20 Celsius degrees and during summer it is rainy and fresh. People are very friendly and cooperative.  The village has basic services such as telephone, medical services, fax, grocery stores. No access to Internet possible and only one bank available, with no ATM.

San Jeronimo is a little village of about 786 inhabitants.  It is located in a very hot part of the MICHOACAN State at 328 meters above sea level. The temperatures are generally around 36? C. The nearest town is called HUETAMO, where all the services are available.
This is the area of the prehispanic Purepecha culture.

REFORESTATION AND CLEANING THE VILLAGE

In SAN LUCAS, the pollution is getting stronger and stronger. The water from the little rivers and the ground are more and more contaminated. There is the emergency to act for making the people more responsible about their environment. The international volunteers will work with people and students from the local school of CEC Y TEM  to promote the preservation of the environment.
The volunteers will do some reforestation work. They will also help in cleaning the little rivers around the village. They will work also to make some inquiry for the collect of the garbage for the town council. They will also visit the local school to speak about the necessity to preserve the nature and our environment.

SAN LUCAS is a little town situated in the south eastern part of Michoacan state. It is at 318 meters above sea level and the temperatures are quite hot with an average of 30?C. It has around 20 000 inhabitants. The nearest town is HUETAMO. There a lot of sites to visit around such as BALSAS river, some archeological ruins, etc… This part of Michoacan is very rich in fossils and ruins from ancient cultures of Mexico.

Together with people from the local school of CEC Y TEM, the volunteers will help in arranging some green areas of the village. The idea is to give a better aspect to different places such as schools, avenues and deforested areas to give a better quality of life to the people of the community. These actions will also sensibilise the inhabitants to environmental issues.
The volunteers will work every week on a different place and location in the village. First week will be dedicated to reforestation of specific areas. During the second week  they will arrange a walking avenue creating little gardens,  painting benches, pruning trees.
It is also possible that the volunteers will arranged gardens and do some little painting works in the schools of the village.

One of the big necessities of many villages in Mexico is the creation of awareness among the inhabitants to care about the environment and the ecology, recycling techniques and reforestation of devastated natural places. In this frame the municipality is inviting a group of international volunteers to take part in different environmentally-oriented activities to improve the life quality of the people of SAN ANTONIO VILLALONGIN and also to involve Mexican youngsters in interesting and useful activities.
The work will consist in cleaning and arranging of some green areas of the municipality. The volunteers will also do some maintenance work in the garden of the central place. They will also arrange a specific place used by the local population to rest and to have various air activities.

The municipality of Apatzingan, a local school and Vive Mexico want to invite a group of international volunteers to help in the creation of ecological spaces inside the school CECYTEM of Apatzingan, the activities will be realized together with students of the school and also local people from the town.
Volunteers will help to clean the terrain where the ecological place will be built, help in the reforestation of this space and collect materials to use in recycling activities.

SECOND PART IN TANCITARO I
CREATING VEGETABLE GARDEN AND TAKING CARE OF THE TREES

This project has two aims. First one is to create vegetable gardens for people of low income, in order to get these products much cheaper for them and their families. The other part is to insure the development of the trees of the village and to keep an ecological aspect in the community.
There will be two types of work. One part is to prepare the ground to plant seeds of different types of vegetables and fruits. Second part is to take care of growing trees throughout the village.

Tancitaro is a village of about 2000 inhabitants at 2000 meters above sea level. During summer it can be raining oftently and the nights can be fresh. The nearest towns are LOS REYES and URUAPAN. The average day temperatures are around 25? C.  There s a lot of places to visit in the region like the PARICUTIN volcano, the city of URUAPAN and its famous national park and  waterfalls and more.

During the two weeks of this workcamp, the volunteers will make vegetable gardens, reforestation and some painting work in the schools, look for some archeological items of the MAZAHUA culture, and clean the streets of the village collecting the garbage.

WORK IN A TREE HATCHERY
WORK:
People from the local school of CEC Y TEM want to act concretely in favor of the preservation of the environment. Together with the international volunteers they will work to maintain a tree hatchery, in order to make some reforestation work later on .
This hatchery will produce forest species from the region, to regenerate places damaged in oder to avoid more ecological problems.
The work will include different tasks, such as: collecting seeds, preparing the seeds, the ground where they will be planted, seeding, transplantation, irrigation. Working time will be from 8am to 2 pm from monday to friday.

For the fifth years international volunteers will work with students of the local school and people of the community, helping in the local development of the community. Churumuco is a very isolated village and could be considered as a marginalized place.
This year the project aims to work for the well being of low income people of the community as well as to help in resolving health problems due to the lack of hygiene in some part of the village. This is to avoid contamination by serious illness.
The volunteers will dig holes, work with cement to build toilets in different places in the village.

CHURUMUCO is a village of 5000 inhabitants,, it is situated at 250 meters above sea level. It is a very hot place with average temperatures all year round from 35 to 38 ?C. The nearest towns are NUEVA ITALIA and LA HUACANA. It is located near a very big artificial lake. The old CHURUMUCO is under the water, so they built the NEW CHURUMUCO about 35 years ago. It is a very nice place to stay for a time, people are really friendly and welcoming. A lot of different workcamps took place in CHURUMUCO in the past years. If you like nature, adventure and lost far west, this is your place…. To go to the village the buses have to cross rivers, there are no bridges……

SECOND PART IN MANGA DE CUIMBO
REFORESTATION, CLEANING, RENOVATING HOUSES

The project in Morelia has as a goal to promote the culture of  recycling and the preservation of the natural resources as well as the preservation of green areas. One local school want to host a group of international volunteers to participate together with groups of local youngsters in different ecological activities.
The volunteers will work in a program for recycling activities of solid wastes in a program of a local school in the city of Morelia, the volunteers will work together with local youngsters. Also the group of volunteers will participate in reforestation activities and maintenance of the installations of the school

The Ecocenter, is a place built with the help of the Mexican, Canadian and British governments this center was built with the aim to promote the awareness among the local inhabits of the surrounding indigenous communities to have a rational use of the natural resources of their communities and also to promote activities to encourage the participation of the local people in the solution of the necessities of their towns.
The Ecocenter is also a place to learn about many topics related with the ecology and sustainable development from recycling techniques to techniques of ecological constructions.
This year the Ecocenter wants to invite a group of international volunteers to work in different activities, restoration and maintenance activities and social activities with the local communities.
The volunteers will realize different activities. They will participate in reforestation activities and also in social workshops with the people of the local communities that surround the Ecocenter.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in the Ecocenter, with all the facilities at disposal, including beds, there are all the services except electricity.

Uruapan is a small city built in a valley located in the north-east part of the sate of Michoacan. It counts with all the services (phone, medical services, fax, Internet etc. etc.), 15 minutes from this city is the Ecocentro del Cupatitzio where this workcamp is going to take place.
The Ecocentro is a centre which aim is to promote activities to help the environment and create consciousness in the people to have a less aggressive relationship with the nature. This centre promotes several activities to achieve this goal; from study meetings and discussions to practical projects, this center was built in a forest in a mountain in a very beautiful zone
There are a lot of different ecological activities, from experiments to prevent the erosion to organic plots and recycling activities and local meetings.
The weather is a little bit cold at night so it is a good idea to bring a jacket but it?s a very beautiful place surrounded of nature.
The Ecocentro is very close of Uruapan City and also close to many touristic and beautiful places from waterfalls to archaeological ruins and historic buildings.

In Mexico there is a big necessity to encourage the participation of the youngsters in the solution of the local problems of their communities, but also to improve their self confidence in communities. In this frame, some workcamps named “International volunteer service project” will be organized in different places in  Mexico to promote cultural workshops with the local youngsters. These activities will include the participation of groups of international volunteers. A strong interaction with the local youngsters will be encouraged and should lead to an unforgettable experience beyond the cultural, social or economical differences. Many topics of interest of youngsters from all over the world will be developed, there will be a great intercultural exchange.
The volunteers will help to organize different workshops with the local youngsters and will take part in them. There is also the possibility to organize some community work, but the real aim of this workcamp is the interaction with the local youngsters.

There are interesting places to visit not far from the town, such as small villages where ancient traditions have been preserved, there are nice balnearios the climate is around 36 Celsius degrees, dry and hot. People are very friendly and cooperative.

WORK:
The Local community and the CECyTES (Science and Technology College of Sonora), wish to host a group of international volunteers in order to make different ecological, cultural, sportive and social activities in their City.
International volunteers, together with students of the CECyTES, will be involved in different topics such as creation of garden areas and fences, doing a mural painting, drama performing.  Volunteers and students will collect pantries in order to distribute them in poor areas of Nogales.  Volunteers will also participate in sportive tournaments organized with locals, as well as in a program addressed to population for rational use of water, the importance of hygiene as preventive way to avoid illnesses, and about recycling.
ACCOMMODATION:

LOCATION:
The project will take place in a 370,000 inhabitants City named Nogales. It is located in the state of Sonora (northeastern Mexico) in the borderline with the U.S.A. The City was in the past a train station named “ Villa de Nogales” (Nogal= Walnut), because it was plenty of walnuts allover. Nowadays is one of the most important cities in the State of Sonora, with all facilities at disposal.  One of the closest Cities is Nogales, Arizona in the U.S.A. Close to Nogales there are interesting places to visit such as “Magdalena de Kino”, ”Invernadero”, ”San Ignacio” and “Tubutama”. The average climate in summer is from 8 to 39 Celsius degrees and in winter from 3 to 22 Celsius degrees. People are very friendly, cooperative and open mind.

WORK:
The local secretariat for the cultural promotion of the city has many activities inside the urban areas and some of them related with the preservation of the cultural traditions and also the organization of many activities with the local inhabits and organization of big events
In this frame they want to invite a group of international volunteers to participate in diverse activities, with the local inhabitants of the city and surrounding communities and also in the promotion and organization of a big festival and parade in Morelia in commemoration of the independence day.
The volunteers will be involved in different activities. Help in the organization of big events organized by the local office of the government in charge of the promotion of the cultural traditions and also the volunteers will help in the promotion of the events organized in the city in the month of September (a big parade on September 15).
After the Parade the volunteers will take part in different workshops with local people. They will also do some enquiries in local communities on specific subjects.

The city's populations is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35? C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to  visit, such as Patzcuaro, and the ancient Purepecha capital Tzintzunzan.

SEA TURTLE PROJECT
WORK:
This is the sixth year Vive Mexico organizes this project together with the Michoacan University and one organization called ECOTONIA, each year a team of biologist from the Michoacan University go to Colola Beach to build a turtle camp and to live there during 4 or sometimes 5 months where they do a really interesting work to protect the sea turtle, by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information about the turtles.
In this frame a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project, as a members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out mostly at night, together with the biologists from the University and with people of Colola Village. They are the people who will work with the group and explain what to do. During the first project the volunteers will also help in the construction of a beach hut where the biologists and the volunteers will sleep. This hut will be constructed from wood and coco tree palms during the first Colola Beach camp.
The volunteers will be very involved in the work with the biologist, and will be treated as if they will be one more biologist with all the facilities and responsibilities, they will be aloud to full fill the information sheets of the statistics and also to use the radio communication equipment, for this camp we will need very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved with the work of protection of the turtle.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will stay with the biologists in the turtle camp, a wood construction on the beach.
LOCATION:
Colola Beach is a beautiful virgin beach in the State of Michoacan, and the most untouched place in Mexico to work with turtles. The village is far away from towns; there are no hotels and no tourists, so if you enjoy being close to nature, you will feel at home here.
The nearest town is Tecoman, which is about 2 hours by bus from Colola, in this town the main services can be found such as telephone, fax, internet, banks, etc. But in Colola Town there is a satellite phone service. The climate is very hot (30?C to 42? C) and very wet in summer. In the months of November, December and part of January the nights are cold so make sure you bring a good jacket. Maybe in October there will be some rain as it is the end of the rainy season, but usually it only lasts for one hour or less per day.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Official language is ENGLISH, but Spanish would be appreciated, as many people in the community do not speak English.  You should have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish.

FIRST PART IN SAN LUCAS II
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
WORK:
In SAN LUCAS, the pollution is getting stronger and stronger. The water from the little rivers and the ground are more and more contaminated. There is the emergency to act for making the people more responsible about their environment. The international volunteers will work with people and students from the local school of CEC Y TEM to try to promote the preservation of the environment.
The volunteers will clean some gardens and some places of the village. They will also organize a campaign to make people of the community more consciousness about environmental issues organizing conferences, shows, excursions, elaborating ecological systems.
ACCOMMODATION:

LOCATION:
SAN LUCAS is a little town situated in the south eastern part of Michoacan state. It is at 318 meters above sea level and the temperatures are quite hot with an average of 30?C. It has around 20 000 inhabitants. The nearest town is HUETAMO. There a lot of sites to visit around such as BALSAS river, some archeological ruins, etc… This part of Michoacan is very rich in fossils and ruins from ancient cultures of Mexico.

SECOND PART IN ZARATE
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
WORK:
Zarate town is a place where the local authorities want to promote the intercultural exchanges and also the activities to help in the diverse necessities of the town.
In this frame they are inviting a group of international volunteers to work and share many experiences and activities with the local youngsters of this town

ENVIRONMENTAL AND AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
WORK:
This project has three aims. First one is to create vegetable gardens for people of low income, in order for them to get this products much cheaper for them and their families. The other part is insure the development of the trees of the village, to keep an ecological aspect in the community. Third part, is to give English and French classes to the pupils of the school.
There will be two types of work. One part is to prepare the ground to plant seeds of different types of vegetables and fruits. Second part is to take care of growing trees throughout the village. Also the volunteers will give some English and French classes to the students of the school .

Tancitaro is a village of about 2000 inhabitants at 2000 meters above sea level. During summer it can be raining oftently and the nights can be fresh. The nearest towns are LOS REYES and URUAPAN. The average day temperatures are around 25? C.  There s a lot of places to visit in the region like the PARICUTIN volcano, the city of URUAPAN and its famous national park and  waterfalls and more.

SECOND PART IN PERIBAN
RENOVATION OF A SPORT AREA.
WORK
Together with students of the local school, the international volunteers will work for renovation a sport area which is difficult to use by now. The volunteers will plant some trees and arrange the green areas. They will clean the place, renovate and paint some sport courts. Some eco shadows will be constructed.

The lodging will be in one house in the village.
LOCATION
PERIBAN DE RAMOS is a little town of about 18000 inhabitants situated in the west part of Michoacan state at 1520 meters above sea level. The temperatures are between 14 and 29 degrees Celcius. The nearest town is called LOS REYES, it is located near famous Michoacan sites such like PARICUTIN volcano, SAN JUAN QUEMADO ruins, National park of TANCITARO.

MANGA DE CUIMBO II
REFORESTATION AND CLEANING
WORK:
One of the big necessities of many villages in Mexico is the creation of awareness among the inhabitants to care about the environment and the ecology, recycling techniques and reforestation of devastated natural places. In this frame the municipality is inviting a group of international volunteers to take part in different environmentally-oriented activities to improve the life quality of the people of Manga de Cuimbo and also to involve Mexican youngsters in interesting and useful activities.
The work will consist in reforestation activities and to build wood fences to protect the trees. The volunteers will also make some actions through speaches on the problems due to the disappearance of the vegetation and the trees. They will also take part in some cleaning campaign of the streets of the village.

Manga de Cuimbo is a town of about 500 inhabitants, situated at 600 meters above sea level. It is located in the south-eastern  part of the state of Michoacan, the climate is hot and wet. The nearest town is LA HUACANA. It is close to some touristic attractions such as old mines, recreative parks, rivers and volcanoes. Its main activities are the agriculture of fruits and the breeding of animals.
 

APATZINGAN MONUMENTOS
REFRESHING OLD MONUMENTS
WORK:
The international volunteers together with young students from one school of APATZINGAN will work on the cleaning of some monuments of the town, to show the importance of this cultural heritage and the necessity to restore them.
The volunteers will work with students from the CEC Y TEM school, they will clean the monuments of the center of the town, do some painting and signs.

Apatzingan is a city built in a valley located in the North-east part of the state of Michoacan, it has more than 125 000 inhabitants and the weather is hot and dry, the average temperature is around 28?C. Due to an over exploitation of the forest, this place is in danger to see erasing problems such like erosion or change of climate. It is urgent to make a campaign of reforestation in this area. It is also important to learn to those who are living from the woodwork how to reforest to follow with their work.
The work will be mainly reforestation work, and also learn to the owners of the land how to reforest.

AGOSTITLAN is a village of 5000 inhabitants. It is situated at 2800 meters above sea level, and the average temperatures in September/October are around 18?C. The nearest big town is CIUDAD HIDALGO. There are plenty of nice places to visit in the same region, like LOS AZUFRES, LAS PRESAS DE MATA DE PINOS, SABANETA, PUCUATO.

SECOND PART IN EPITACIO HUERTA I
ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLEANING ACTIVITIES
WORK:
This projects aims giving more consciousness to children and young people of the village about environmental problems and to try to change their attitude, to be more respectful about the nature.  The volunteers will work together with local pupils and students of the village in different environmental works in the community.
Different type of work will be done during the three weeks: creation of gardens in the schools of the village,  reforestation work, to collect some garbage in the school and in specific areas, painting some walls with slogans on the environmental problems, painting some building of the village.

EPITACIO HUERTA is a village of 3500 inhabitants situated at 2400 above sea level. The average temperatures are around 16? C, but are higher during summer time, but the nights are always a bit fresh. A lot of beautiful places can be visited not too far from the village, like GUANAJUATO town, LOS AZUFRES, etc……… It’s a village of mixed cultures OTOMI and PUREPECHA.

The municipality of the town called Benjamin Hill is interested to promote among the local youngsters the culture of volunteer activities to support the development of the local communities, in this frame many activities are organized from awareness about the use of drugs, to ecological activities and social consciousness. In this frame the local institution in charge of the education in the town is inviting a group of international volunteers to participate in many different activities with local youngsters.
The volunteers will  make visits to a local center for youngsters with problems with drugs, helping in the restoration of green areas inside the local school and maintenance to green areas inside the town.

Due to the success of the international workcamp made in the village last year, the local community, the Municipality and the CECyTES (Science and technology College of Sonora) wish to host a group of international volunteers to help with the required renovation of the buildings of the school, as they do not have enough budget to do so.
International volunteers, together with students of the CECyTES, will help to repaint classrooms and the outside part of the school, as well as repair doors, windows and restrooms.
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in two classrooms of the school itself, therefore there are no beds at disposal, so please do not forget to bring a sleeping bag and an air mat. There is air conditioning, there are showers and kitchen with refrigerator.  A place to wash clothes will be adapted.
LOCATION
The project will take place in a small 2000 inhabitants community named Plutarco Elias Calles. It is located in the state of Sonora (northeastern Mexico) in the middle of a desert.  The village is about 60 km from Caborca, which is one of the most important cities in the State with all services at disposal.  Plutarco Elias Calles is an isolated place, but 40 km away there are nice beaches such as “El Desemboque”, “Las Salinas” and “Los Dorados de Villa” as well as “Puerto Pe?asco”.  There are interesting archeological sites to visit not far from the village such as, “Cerro de la Proveedora”,”Cerro del Antimonio” and “Hoquedades del Bizani”; you will also find vineyards and ESPARRAGOS fields. The average climate is around 40 Celsius degrees, dry and hot. People are very friendly and cooperative.

In Caracuaro there is a very important archaeological site, for the people of the town as well as for the municipality it is very important to preserve and research on this cultural legacy to understand which was the way of living of the people hundreds of years ago in order to preserve the history of this town. This is the second year that an international workcamp is organized in Caracuaro.
During the project the volunteers will also work with young people of the school in different cultural activities.
Together with people from the town, and local students, volunteers will go on expeditions to discover archaeological sites and look for ancient archaeological items, clean them and arrange the museum of the community build by the workcamp of last year.
The work involves excavations, collecting the items, cleaning them, classifying them. There are items from ancient civilizations but also fossils.
Some workshop will be organized with the local youngsters on different subjects, like language exchanges, cultural discussions etc….

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES IN CHURUMUCO
WORK
In Mexico there is a big necessity to encourage the participation of the youngsters in the solution of the local problems of their communities, but also to improve their self confidence in communities. In this frame, some workcamps named “International volunteer service project” will be organized in different places in  Mexico to promote cultural workshops with the local youngsters. These activities will include the participation of groups of international volunteers. A strong interaction with the local youngsters will be encouraged and should lead to an unforgettable experience beyond the cultural, social or economical differences. Many topics interesting  youngsters from all over the world will be developed, there will be a great intercultural exchange.
The volunteers will help to organize different workshops with the local youngsters and will take part in them. There is also the possibility to organize some community work, but the real aim of this workcamp is the interaction with the local youngsters.

CHURUMUCO is a village of 5000 inhabitants,, it is situated at 250 meters above sea level. It is a very hot place with average temperatures all year round from 35 to 38 ?C. The nearest towns are NUEVA ITALIA and LA HUACANA. It is located near a very big artificial lake. The old CHURUMUCO is under the water, so they built the NEW CHURUMUCO about 35 years ago. It is a very nice place to stay for a time, people are really friendly and welcoming. A lot of different workcamps took place in CHURUMUCO in the past years. If you like nature, adventure and lost far west, this is your place…. To go to the village the buses have to cross rivers, there are no bridges…

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES IN CARACUARO
WORK
In Mexico there is a big necessity to encourage the participation of the youngsters in the solution of the local problems of their communities, but also to improve their self confidence in communities. In this frame, some workcamps named “International volunteer service project” will be organized in different places in  Mexico to promote cultural workshops with the local youngsters. These activities will include the participation of groups of international volunteers. A strong interaction with the local youngsters will be encouraged and should lead to an unforgettable experience beyond the cultural, social or economical differences. Many topics interesting  youngsters from all over the world will be developed, there will be a great intercultural exchange.
The volunteers will help to organize different workshops with the local youngsters and will take part in them. There is also the possibility to organize some community work, but the real aim of this workcamp is the interaction with the local youngsters.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in a house of the village.
LOCATION:
Caracuaro is a town founded in 1537 and its name means “the place between the mountains”. It has 6000 inhabits and counts with the basic services such as phone, fax, medical services, etc. it is located at the center of the Michoacan state at the south of the capital (Morelia), 400 meters above sea level. The average temperatures are around 30?C. There are plenty of nice  places to visit around.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLEANING ACTIVITIES
WORK:
This projects aims giving more consciousness to children and young people of the village about environmental problems and to try to change their attitude, to be more respectful about the nature.  The volunteers will work together with local pupils and students of the village in different environmental works in the community.
Different type of work will be done during the three weeks: creation of gardens in the schools of the village,  reforestation work, to collect some garbage in the school and in specific areas, painting some walls with slogans on the environmental problems, painting some building of the village.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted in a house of the village.
LOCATION:
EPITACIO HUERTA is a village of 3500 inhabitants situated at 2400 above sea level. The average temperatures are around 16? C, but are higher during summer time, but the nights are always a bit fresh. The nearest city is named SAN JUAN DEL RIO QUERETARO. A lot of beautiful places can be visited not too far from the village, like GUANAJUATO town, LOS AZUFRES, etc……… It’s a village of mixed cultures OTOMI and PUREPECHA.

SUSUPUATO DE GUERRERO is located in the East part of Michoacan state at 1240 meters above sea level. The average temperatures are about 23?C. The village has around 8500 inhabitants. The nearest town is ZITACUARO. The prehispanic cultures living there were the MAZAHUA and  the OTOMI. In the region there s a lot of interesting places to visit like VALLE DE BRAVO,  IXTAPAN DEL ORO, BURBOLLUN waterfalls, Monarch Butterfly reserve and more…………

SAN LUCAS is a little town situated in the south eastern part of Michoacan state. It is at 318 meters above sea level and the temperatures are quite hot with an average of 30?C. It has around 20 000 inhabitants. The nearest town is HUETAMO. There a lot of sites to visit around such as BALSAS river, some archeological ruins, etc… This part of Michoacan is very rich in fossils and ruins from ancient cultures of Mexico.
