Workcamp organized by an SCI local

association of the city , in the construction of the XIII edition of the
"Festival of the freedom of the population". The themes are on :"the effects
of the globalisation in the local context". Every day there will be a public
discussion, a concert and a dinner (ethnical, and traditional). There will
be exhibition, videos and games. Volunteers will have to help in the practical
works (help in the kitchen in the nights, cleaning of the park where will
be the festival , arrangement of the structures). Also they will contribute
in the preparation of the games, exhibitions and others possible initiatives.

themes on the roman territory. The aim is to get deeper in this problematic

immigrants in Rome , in particular. The second part is focused on the preparation
of an exposition utilising the pictures collected in Rome and from the
volunteers.
The final objective will be the organisation
of an intercultural initiative with discussions, the presentation of the
exposition and of a video.

Workcamp in solidarity with Africa,
a Missionary workcamp.

The volunteers will work in the collection
of furniture, paper, clothes and miscellaneous to be recycled and/or sold
in a «second-hand» market. The goals of the camp are to get funds for medical
clinic in Dawro (Ethiopia);- North and South countries problems awareness.
A: The volunteers will stay in the
Friar monastery in Imola (Bologna) - Italy.
L: The first language is Italian,
but it is possible to take part at the work camp even if you just
speak English.

NGO and Libohove Town council
Libohove is a small village in the
south part of Albania, close to the Greek border, located on a small hill,
facing to a big valley with big mountains. The summer is very hot. This
is the fourth edition.
W: The work will mainly concentrate
on play scheme activities with children from 6 to 14 years aged (cooperative,
nonviolent games, mini soccer tourney, murals and theatrical performance
and creative workshops). This year we would like to involve also teenagers
ranging form 15 to 20. Finally, depending on the number of volunteers and
the needs, small restoration works should be done.

Two Sunday trips are planned: to
the main town of the district and to an ancient roman-Greek-Venetian site,
world cultural heritage, and to the nice coast town (and beach of) Saranda.

The work camp is organised in collaboration
with the "Co-ordination for the recovery of the Entrenched Camp". The volunteers
will help in the conversion of two military fortresses with a big historical
and environmental value in a green park open to the public. The work will
consist in the cleaning of these buildings from the waste stuff and weeds
and will be in the open air. The work is not particularly hard but energy
is requested because it will be in spaces abandoned from long time. In
the last years this work permitted to give back to the city precious monumental
and environmental structures. The project, with the patronage of Venice
Municipality, will also involve local volunteers.

The work camp will take place in
the Risiera of San Sabba, ex concentration camp. It will be a study and
research camp on the place and on the nazist deportation.
Meetings with specialists, ex-deportee
people and didactic operators will be provided. The volunteers will be
involved in the visits to the museum realities related to the Risiera.
There will be a careful study on the historical, cultural and social local
context, also referred to the linguistic minorities, to the religious communities,
to the thematic of the immigration and of diversity. The group will be
co-ordinated by an expert of the Civici Musei di Storia ed Arte.

can speak English and Italian.

The work camp takes place in a "house
for holiday" for young people with physical or/and mental disabilities.
It lasts 2 weeks and the house is situated on the Adriatic seaside near
the historical town of Ravenna.
W: The volunteers have to help disabled
people in the shifting, on the beach and into the sea-water and they'll
organise recreative activities (playing music, games etc...) in order to
make people socialise and have fun.
S: Will concerns the different kinds
of disabilities affecting the guests of the house.
L: A basic knowledge of the Italian

The A.N.F.F.A.S. (national association
of families with "subnormal" children and adults) is an association taking
care of mentally disabled people and providing support of their families.
Most common pathologies are: autism, down syndrome and schizophrenia.
Volunteers are requested to provide
animation activities whom will integrate with the Summer programs of the
A.N.F.F.A.S. center located in Via De Gioannis in Cagliari.
S: Will be about A.N.F.F.A.S., the
problematic about assistance to mentally disabled people and local SCI
activities.
L: a basic knowledge of Italian language
is preferred.

The purpose of the Cooperativa Sociale
"Insieme" (a non-profit c0-operative society) is to provide opportunities
for disabled persons. Among its activities are cleaning jobs and maintaining
plants and green areas. Last year the co-operative started organic horticulture
and is currently preparing city-farm activities for the school.
W: Volunteers will be working, with
local people, on the organic vegetable garden (maintaining, weeding, gathering
and packing vegetables) and in building the structures and equipment of
the didactic farm (making pathways, planting trees, gardening, erecting
posters, looking after farmyard animals, etc...).
S: Cultural and re-creational activities
(music, excursions) together with presentations of projects and discussions
on several problems (environment, globalisation, etc...) will also be proposed.

The Carpi, Novi and Soliera Committee
of Progetto Chernobyl will host children coming from contaminated areas
in Belarus, in this way the children will loose 30% of radioactivity they
have absorbed living in those areas. Since 1996 an SCI workcamp has been
held to support and help the volunteers of the Progetto Chernobyl in running
the playschemes for the children. SCI volunteers must be able to ride bikes
and should have a basic knowledge of Italian or Russian.

Catholic work camp, with the collaboration
of the Franciscans from Longiano (Forlì). The "San Francesco Village" is
situated in the National Park of the Forests in Casentino, in an isolated
and uncontaminated place, at 1173 of altitude. During the summer period
the place hosts more than 150 persons, children and guys, in animation
and spiritual camps.
W: The volunteers will work in the
maintenance of the garden and the building. Sometimes they will have to
organise animation activities for the children.

The association organises exchange,
in Guastalla, near the river Po, with a group of children aged between
6 and 13 years old coming from orphanage of Banja Koviliaca (Serbia).
The children come from different ethnic backgrounds (Rom, Bosnian, Croatian)
and they are victims, without any fault, of the many events happened in
the area.
Main objective of the exchange and
of the workcamp is to promote the peace between the people, the popular
diplomacy and the education to an intercultural living. Welcome to the
volunteers with sensitivity and experience in working with children. The
study part will be on the causes and the effects of the conflict in the
former Yugoslavia.

L'ANPASS (National Association Public
Assistance) works in the assistance to the old and disabled people and
provides first aid services. For the second year, the association and the
village host Saharawi and Bielorussian children. Its aim is to let different
cultures and realities socialise and meet together, for the promotion of
an intercultural living.
The volunteers will work in the organisation
of the camp during ten days. And they will support the local volunteers
in the activities of the group, also joint by the children of the village.

The italian assosiation Arciragazzi
carry on a project called " Laboratorio dei ragazzi e delle ragazze" (Workshop

take part in the initiative "art in the suburb": a week of recreative and
artistic activities in the suburbs of the city.

of 800 mt. and at 8 km from Bobbio, are living 10 people.
The main aims of the co-operative
are reconstruction of the village and ground revival to the place. Volunteers
will work in picking fruits and berries and producing marmalade,
picking and preparing of medical herbs, preparing firewood for winter,
reconstruction of stone walls.
The study part will be on the natural
medicine, living in respect to nature.
Problems for the volunteers: lack
of water (it's impossible to take a shower every day), being far away from
the city and all its distractions.

Savage of the farm. This building
into the Mignanego municipaly is located over the high way of ligurian
mountains. The name of this locality is Spazzè. Originally it was bred
cattle and cultivated the hand, now the farm is left from years. It's necessary
to recover the building to clean the wood . The knowledge required to the
volunteers are: manual ability in order to deforestation and zone restoration;
ability of adaptation; it will be also appreciated if it possible, knowledge
in agronomy and architecture. It will be studied the way of curing
out an "agriturismo"

Zonca is a lonely village not far
from Seppiana in Val Antrona, reachable only on foot (30 minutes walking)
where from a couple of years few families lives, starting the "Ecological
House of Zonca", a cultural meeting place.
The collaboration with volunteers
is requested to help in the rearrange of path damaged from floods last
October (rearrange dry-stone walls, cleaning underwood, transporting material..).
Volunteers will work 6 hours a day.
There will be a study part on community
life experience, Maya calendar, medicinal herbs, and old cultivation's
method.
Volunteers will be hosted
in tend or in a barn, food is mostly vegetarian. In the free time
it's possible to see the Antrona Lake, and make walk around.

Coop. Panta rei is rebuilding a zootechnic
centre fallen into disuse to realize a little ecology village where
young people and adults will live, play and work for short periods, testing
way of living, consuming, producing, and building that have the least damage
about the environment and about the health of man.
The structures are built with natural
building materials, we'll get a part of energy from sun and wind; we will
follow and we will manage every cycles of resources that have made use
will be.
Into the land of the centre there
are an orchard and a kitchen garden with bio-ecological management. Voluntaries
will carry out every seasonal works in the orchard (sowing, transplantation,
hoecing, manuring and harvest).The practical work will be alterned
with moment of information and study about the methods of biologic agriculture
and considerations about the importance of this for the man and the environment.
Voluntaries will be lodged in a structure of the centre. The Centre is
placed on the hills of Trasimeno lake and it is distant km.2 from Passignano
and km.30 from Perugia.

On the hills of Umbria there
is an old country building in stones that the industrial revolution has
emptied and now is once again full of people of the association Artemide
who are working to build a laboratory-house called "Il Cerquosino" rural
house located on Umbria's Hills near Orvieto: place open for meetings,
seminars and not formal education training.
With the help of the SCI volunteers
in the last year we have realized a biopurifycations istallation, and also
a solar electric system.
This year volunteers will have to
construe little walls, flower beds, benches; all these things will contribute
to build up a natural spectacle scenario that Artemide will us in the future.
Are requested spirit of adaptation

Five teachers from five different
secondary schools from the area of Reggio Calabria realised from last year,
with their pupils a project of environmental education. They planed together
to restructure a former American military base (USAF) located in the heart
of the National Park of Aspromonte in order to create there a cultural
centre for peace and environment, that should have a big impact in a territory
that has always been controlled by the local Mafia. But the other objective
of the workcamp is making the pupils of the school discover the culture
of other countries, the opportunity of socialising with strangers is usually
quite reduced in Calabria.
The workcamp is supported by the
Regional Park Institution and by many local administrations.
W: The volunteers with the pupils
of the schools(16 and 20 years) will help to realise works of renovation,
restructure and cleaning of the military base.

The Botanical Garden Pervinca is
a little agricultural association that works in the safeguard of the biodiversity,
of environmental education and in the alimentary sensitization through
the re-establishment of alimentary and medical plants. Levo is 650 m. high
and 4 km. from Maggiore lake in a reach in vegetation area. Aim of the
workcamp is the maintenance of the flower beds and the creation of new
areas that will contain ancient fruit varieties.
The volunteers will work in the maintenance
of the garden's flower beds, in potting plants, in planting, in cutting
wood and in cleaning of the forest. Out of the Botanical Garden, close
to the lake, old state pathways and abandoned naturalistic ways will be
restored.
The study part will be about the
generale and the particular biodiversity.

The project will consist of redeveloping
(cleaning and planting of horticulture) areas close to the nineteenth-century
Fortress, Forte Petrazza. This area, which is close to Messina town center,
is a highly run-down. The Consortium SOLE (Solidal Economy), who runs the
fortress, is going to develop it as a multidisciplinary location. Functions
will include an Information and Training Center, an Agency for Development
and Experimentation of Social Economy, an Educational and Social Park for
children of all ages, a Youth center and a Social Tourism Area. Within
the Educational and Social Park, some green areas will be utilised for
cross country running and nature projects fro schools. The study part will
be centered around familiarising the volunteers withcurrent and proposed
activities and projects in the Strait of Messina region, together with
informing them about social and environmental issues in Sicily. This will
provide an exchange of opinions and experiences from the volunteers who
will be encouraged to discuss the situation their own regions. The volunteers
will be accomodated in the guest rooms of Forte Petrazza.

The workcamp is organized in co-operation
with "L'ISOLA", an organization inspired by catholic principles, that runs
a residence for male former prisoners. At the moment there are about twenty
people, of different age and nationality, who are aloud to stay in the
residence for a limited period up to a few months.
The house is placed in the very suburb
of Rome and it is quite isolated: the frequency of buses is not very often,
especially in evening hours.
The aim of the workcamp is to share
with the inhabitants of the residence the construction of a fence and to
spend spare time together by means of group activities.

sobriety and self sustainability.

Riace is a little village with almost
600 inhabitants , located between Calabria mountains and Ionio Sea. The
association is operating in the field of ethnographic research and valorisation
of traditional local handcrafts (hand-weaving, transformation of milk,
fruit and olive), which are promoted with also tourism projects. The association
is also operating in the field of reception and integration for asylum
seekers and refugees.
The volunteers will work in the restoration
of an ancient medieval gate and a path leading from the village to the
shore. The study part will be about asylum seekers and refugees conditions
in Italy. The volunteers will stay in some houses in the old part of the
village.

interior of the Medieval Castle of S. Severa, important archaeological
site situated close to the ancient Pyrgi, roman installation.

The Committee "Restauro Fonti" is
an association working in the restoration and the re-establishment of 10
fountains and wash-tubs of the centuries XVIII and XIX in the countryside
of Castagneto Carducci. The Committee's aim is to promote the defence and
the revalorization of the historical and cultural patrimony of the place.
The volunteers will work in the restoration
of a font-wash tub in stone work and wood and doing hidraulics works. Welcome
to the volunteers even a bit specialised in this field.
The study part will be developed
in a workshops open to the local population also entitled "The religions
have to join, not to divide".

painting walls, cleaning the open area.

The workcamp is organized by the
Research Group "Semi di Casa" (Home seeds) and will take place in "High
Scrivia Valley" in the Liguria Appenine in a green area at few kilometres
from the seaside.
After the positive experience of
the last year in Crosi of Valbrevenna, the Reaserch Group "Semi di casa"
is intentioned to continue the recover work of the village.
W: This year the volunteers will
be engaged in the cleaning of the Historical path connecting the village
to Carsi, an other interesting example of the rural hamlet.
The recover work will also take place
in Cognole of Carsegli, Montoggio and Olmi of Savignone where the volunteers
will get close to the locale cheese tradition.
Volunteers will be engaged in the
cleaning of the pathways and of the wood, the recovering of the stone buildings.
They will be shown the local animal and plants cultivated and breaded by
the three farms.

In the last five years in this area
many work camps have been organised. The accent of these experiences is
on the exchange of different cultures in the artistic aspect: each volunteer
will bring his/er own cultural experience and will have the chance to exchange
it with the local historical and artistic life of the place. This year
in Ferla a ceramics workshop will be organised in a school for children
aged from 10 to 14 years old. The volunteers will help in the organisation
and the activities of the project.
The study part will be on the social
life of a little village in Sicily and on the opportunities of exchange
between a local culture and an international one; on the ceramics technique
and calatina tradition; on Monti Iblei's culture and nature.
The volunteers have to have artistic
experience and spirit to work with children.

The workcamp will take place in Padova
in the Festival of Indipendent Artistical Production, organised by the
cultural association ToniCorti and the Popular Theatre of Research, two
groups very active in the last years of cultural and artistic Padova's
life.
During the Festival several kinds
of artistic and multimedial events will take place: theatre performances,
experimental concerts, projection of shorts and films, exhibition of figurative
installations.
The volunteers will work in the following
activities:
- preparation of the festival's structures
and of the exhibition;
- public relations and communication
and communication in the city;
- organisation of public conferences;
- receiving the artists.
The volunteer will have during the
Festival the opportunity of having experience in the concrete problem of
events' organisation, knowing a lot of artists and knowing artistic languages
through the relations with the artists.
Spartan accommodation at the Festival,
at the Theatre or at C.L.A.C. in Padova.

The workcamp is held in collaboration
with the Dolianova town council, inside a project aiming to help developing
the different quartiers of the village. The work will mainly consit in
the realization of different murales, each one in a different quartier,
in collaboration with a group of youngs leaving in the quartiers themselves.

Giave, a small village of about 700
inhabitants, is located in North Sardinia
in a hilly zone facing a great valley,
the so called "Nuraghe Valley" because of the number of a lot of archaeological
sites in the zone.
Volunteers (f/m) will work on different
activities that will involve the local
people to encourage the cultural
exchange and the social cohesion. In particular vols will be
involved in preparing a mural, animation
activities with the children and the young people, with the
intent to make aware and form about
the great theme of peace, non-violence and solidarity.
The study part will thus concern
the local history and culture with respect to the global context.

During the two weeks of the workcamp,
a mural made in 1996, in another SCI workcamp in collaboration with AISM
(Italian Association Multiple Sclerosis), will be restored. Some days will
be spend together with the boys and the girls of the association.
The study part will be on the themes
of the peace, non-violence and health; the aim is to reflex together with
the volunteers on the figures having a role on the social welfare.

Reconstruction of the historical
memory of Bindua during the mining period, envolving a group young people
(11-20 years old) living in the village and their families, in particular
the elders. Collection and translation in different languages of: information,
pictures, oral stories and tales, to prepare an exhibition that will envolve
all the village in the final steps.

The workcamp will take place in the
"social centre La Torre", in Roma; place deal by a voluntary group of persons
who organized cultural, politics, social and ludics activities.
The objectives are to improve the
spaces we manage:
-Internal maintenance of the social
centre
-Cleaning and improving of the surrounding
park
-Building of a bower in the garden
-Installation of a plant for the
re-use of rain-water
-Building of fences for the garden.
These works don't need particular
requires; anyway the presence of an electrician, of a carpenter and of
an expert in telephony will be appreciated.
It will be useful also a meeting
with the occupiers to exchange impressions and ideas about the camp.
The accommodation is foreseen outside
the S.C., so the volunteers should bring tent.

Tavernelle (Perugia)

Work camp organised with the
collaboration of the agricultural and social cooperative "Scetavajasse"
which will host the volunteers of the camp introducing them to territory
knowledge as an integrated system between rural and natural environment.
It will be possible to be informed about co-operative's activities during
this period, as feeding, gardening, etc.. This co-operative will also permit,
through spaces share and work between persons with "living difficulties",
the meeting with different life's experience promoted by social tourism
activities since two years ago.
Volunteers will help in agricultural
work and will have a study part about fair trade biological agriculture,
starting from the practical experience lived inside the co-operative.

Liberaterra - I giorni della memoria
The co-operative "Placido Rizzotto"
manages some agricultural lands that have been confiscated to the boss
of mafia and is engaged in educational activities on the legality in collaboration
with the group of association "Libera".
The workcamp will be divided in two
periods. During the first days the volunteers will participate to the preparation
of the initiatives organized in occasion of the X anniversary of the slaughter
of mafia of 1992 (Falcone e Borsellino) that will ended the 19th of July.
In the second part of workcamp the
volunteers will work with the associated of the co-operative in the agricultural
lands in which they use biological cultivation.
A: The volunteers will stay in some
houses in the confiscated lands.
