Bosnian Community Development

The Bosnian Community Development
Project based in Dublin was established to help Bosnian refugees settle
in Ireland. Activities include an information service and community programmes
for elderly, young people and children. Each summer the BCDP runs a summer
project for children, which gives them a chance to meet and socialise with
other Bosnian children in the city. The work will involve organising activities:
sports, arts, drama and circus skills. Vols should be between 25 - 35 years.
Two references and a completed Declaration Form are required to participate
in this camp.

Navan Traveller Workshop, Co.

The Travelling community is an Irish
ethnic minority and one of the most discriminated groups in Irish society.
The Navan Traveller Workshop is trying to improve housing, health, education,
employment choices etc. Each summer there is a summer project for Traveller
children in Navan and the surrounding areas. Vols will work alongside
Travellers and settled local volunteers in organising activities for children
including sports, games, art, drama, outings etc. male vols and vols over
25 years are particularly welcome.

War Resisters' International (WRI),

War Resisters' International exists
to promote non violent action against the causes of war and to support
and connect people around the world who refuse to take part in war or the
preparation of war - WRI works for a world without war. Vols are required
to help work on a conference called Stories and Strategies - Nonviolent
Resistance and Social Change taking place in Dublin from 3 - 10 August.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in the conference
if they wish. The work will involve dealing with last minute arrangements,
putting up signs, working on the conference newsletter, looking after translation
equipment/headsets, assisting with information stalls, helping to
provide childcare plus a range of one off tasks. The working languages
of the conference will be English, German, French and Spanish but volunteers
will need to speak very good English. Volunteers with First Aid, Journalistic
or Child Care skills are very welcome to apply. Volunteers with clean driver's
licences are also very welcome to apply.

The Irish Wheelchair Association
is a voluntary organisation dedicated to the achievement of full social,
economic and educational integration of people with physical disability
as equal, independent and participative members of the community.
The IWA host holidays for their members and other groups in the Cuisle
Centre in Co. Roscommon. Vols will be involved in caring duties (personal
care, social events, outings) with a group of young people with disabilities
and other individuals who are at Cuisle as part of their respite service.
Two references and a completed Declaration Form are required to participate
in this camp.

New Border Generation is a community
group based south of the border with Northern Ireland that has established
many links and friendships with groups on both sides of the border.
Vols are needed for various activities with children including the annual
cross-border drum workshop, arts and drama activities with cross-border
groups as well as a variety of social and educational activities. Two references
and a completed Declaration Form are required to participate in this camp.

Aran Conservationists, Inis Oirr
& Inis Mor Islands, Co. Galway

Aran Conservationists is a new workcamp
on Inis Oirr and Inis Mor, two islands off the west coast of Ireland. The
everyday language of the islands is Irish and the songs and stories of
the islanders reflect their strong Celtic tradition. The workcamp will
involve a week on Inis Oirr helping with a beach clean up, painting a number
of old handpumps and landscaping the area around them as well as planting
flowers along the roadside. Accommodation will be in a hostel and
the local community has organised a series of social events including music,
dancing and singing for the volunteers. The second two weeks will be spent
on Inis Mor where volunteers will again be involved in a beach cleanup,
landscaping the area around the new recycling plant and helping to create
a footpath. Accommodation will again be in a local hostel and many social
and cultural events are being organised by the community.

Knocksink Woods, Co. Wicklow

The National Environmental Education
Centre (NEEC) and Knocksink Woods National Nature Reserve is a joint
initiative between the Dublin Institute of Technology and Duchas - the
Heritage Service. The NEEC is located in a purpose built education facility
half a kilometre inside the Knocksink Wood national Nature Reserve about
ten minutes walk from Enniskerry village in Co. Wicklow. Vols will be working
with NEEC staff to create and repair paths and trails through the woods.
Accommodation will be in the Centre and vols should bring sleeping bags.

Ballytobin Applejuicing, Co. Kilkenny

Ballytobin is one of 60 Camphill
communities around the world and one of 14 in Ireland which offers those
in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational,
therapeutic and social needs can be met. The Ballytobin Community,
situated in the south east of Ireland cares for approximately 50 children
and adults. The work will be harvesting apples and making apple juice for
the community for the coming year. Two references and a completed Declaration
Form are required to participate in this camp.

Camphill Ballybay is one of 60 Camphill
communities around the world and one of 14 in Ireland which offers those
in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational,
therapeutic and social needs can be met. The Ballybay Community,
situated south of the border with Northern Ireland, houses 30 adults, just
over half of whom need special care. The work will be harvesting berries
and general gardening work. Accommodation will be in a newly refurbished
house and vols will cook for themselves. Two references and a completed
Declaration Form are required to participate in this camp.

Camphill Ballybay is one of 60 Camphill
communities around the world and one of 14 in Ireland which offers those
in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational,
therapeutic and social needs can be met. The Ballybay Community,
situated south of the border with Northern Ireland, houses 30 adults, just
over half of whom need special care. The work will be helping to create
a footpath and nature trail to the nearby lake. Accommodation will be in
a newly refurbished house and vols will cook for themselves. Two references
and a completed Declaration Form are required to participate in this camp.

Herbal Experience Grangemockler,

Grangemockler is one of 60 Camphill
communities around the world and one of 14 in Ireland which offers those
in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational,
therapeutic and social needs can be met. Grangemockler Camphill grows,
harvests, processes and uses herbs from the garden to produce a wide range
of medicinal and culinary products. Vols will harvest the herbs, flowers,
plants and roots and will be involved in processing them. Due to accommodation
logistics the gender ratio should be 4:2

Rathcormac Development Association,
Co. Cork

Rathcormac is a small village
approximately half an hour from Cork City and only 10 minutes from the
town of Fermoy. The village has a community council which is made up of
volunteer members from within the community. The council has undertaken
to improve the village and has already converted an old school into a community
centre as well as creating footpaths through the old cemetery dating back
to 1684. Accommodation will be in the community centre and volunteers should
bring sleeping bags. The work will involve landscaping the entrances to
the village and planting flowers and shrubs as well s a general clean up.
