HAI VFP 01 HAITI
26 JUN – 7 JUL CONS 6 VOLS French Language Required
W: Six or so mature, culturally sensitive
vols are invited to help construct a community center in a remote but well
functioning
Haitian village. The center
once completed will be initiated in a youth conference and festival from
July 5th through July 7th. A: Vols
will live with local families or
in their own tents. One may expect no conveniences, sparse food,
confusion, hard work, long hours,
but warm, generous, dignified people.
Sponsorship is by "CODEHA," a youth organization under the leadership of
Godfroy
Boursiquot-"Gody"--a remarkable Haitian
educator. L: Some French helps, but most people speak only Haitian
Creole which they are
pleased to teach visitors.
Questions may be addressed to Bob Belenky, an American volunteer organizer
at bobelenk@yahoo.com.
T: Vols are to arrive in Port-au-Prince
on June 26th. They will arrange to be met at the airport by a representative
of a guesthouse
where they will spend the night.
They will then proceed as a group to the village the next day accompanied
by a CODEHA member.
FEES: Room and board in the
village: $100. $30 for each night at the guesthouse. Bring
extra cash for contingencies. If Vols
remain for the youth conference itself,
the additional cost will be about $15.
