RENO/KIDS (V: 14)
Project
One of the aims of the ecumenical
Community “Martin Luther King e.V” is learning how to live together.
Therefore they founded a project called “Jugendferienheim Ponyhof Hilbeck”.
Here children, young women, young
men and adults try for some time to live as a group together. They create
their own program, meetings, and meals – the whole every day life of a
group. Hereby, the 16 ponies in that old farm play an important and central
role.
This is the concept and the frame
for another international camp in this year. The participants will stay
in one part oft the farm. There they can make there own experiences as
a group. The centre of the group life will be the exchange, accepting other
cultures, religions and habits, talking to one another and understanding
one another.
After the events of the 11th of September
last year nothing is more important than to participate in the realization
of Martin Luther King’s dream. ”With this faith we will be able to transform
the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.
With this faith we will be able to work together, to stand up for freedom
together, knowing that we will be free one day.”
And for that this camp shall make
a contribution.
Work
We will work together repairing and
painting fences and doing some other necessary minor and major repairs.
Meeting the region “Westfalen – Ruhrgebiet” shall not fall short.
CPD 10 VERDEN, 03.08.-17.08.2002
The Project
We are a group of mainly young people
who, in 1997, bought an empty barrack building in the small town of Verden
situated in the north of Germany near Bremen. Since then we have been converting
it into a centre for ecological, social and political groups and co-operative
businesses. A builder?s store offering eco-friendly building materials,
a women?s project and an independent nursery group have already opened.
We cannot spend too much money on the rebuilding, because we want to let
the premises to the groups at a low rent and manage without bank loans
to a large extent. On the other hand, we want to be independent of regular
government subsidies, but the project is financed by the rent paid by the
commercial businesses to a large degree. The owner of the house is a non-profit
organization. The profits gained are not diverted along private persons,
but are returned to finance new projects.
The Job
The main part of the work will be
building a playhouse for children on the playground of our nursery school.
If there is still enough time left also building additional smaller pieces
of playingequipment under instruction. Further more there will be some
minor works to do, which has not yet been spcified, with users of our house
of our premises.
Accomodation
Overnight accomodation will be provided
at the "?kozentrum'' in bed. - Please bring your own bedding with you.
Showers and toilets are available. As far as the kitchen is concerned,
we will be cooking (mostly vegetarian) for ourselves.
Leisure Time Activities
The “?kozentrum'' is situated in
the town centre. Whatever you wish to do in your spare time, you can do
most of it on foot. Verden is a beautiful small town with many historical
buildings. Among others, the famous cathedral is worth visiting, where
classical concerts take place regularly in summer. Admission free! In Verden,
there is the only German horse museum. Young people meet for instance in
the co-operative youth centre “Dampfm?hle'', where sometimes punk concerts
take place. There are various pubs and one cinema. You will find shops
of all kind in the town centre, but all the same it is not very far to
go to the country. The walking distance from the ``?kozentrum'' to the
public baths is 5 minutes.
The city of Bremen is only 40 km
away from Verden, and it is no problem to go there by train and return
even late in the evening. Bremen is not only famous for its Beck?s beer,
but there is a varied cultural life, and many leisure time activities are
possible. You can go on weekend trips are to Hamburg, the North Sea or
the L?neburg Heath.
Study Part
During the Study Parts, we may discuss
a large variety of topics we are interested in. The sightseeing tour of
the town shows you the historical sights of Verden and also informs you
about the social history of a small German town. We can look into the alternative
movement in Germany, the resistance against nuclear power or we can discuss
topics like living in communities or initial stages of a co-operative economy.
What is it like living in close companionship with 10 other people having
one joint budget? How do companies work that are not headed by a manager,
but where decisions are made by everybody involved? Other topics on which
we can give you a lot of information are eco-friendly construction and
environmental technology (solar energy, compost toilets, small sewage plants,
...). On a field near Verden, a group of farmers does permacultural farming.
Permaculture means that a cleverly thought out way of planting creates
a system which is self-preserving to a large extent and does not require
much regular work. If you are interested in it, the members of the Permaculture
Group will present their project to you.
Our programme is flexible, and we
want to plan our activities together at the beginning of the camp.
CPD 11 ST. Goar, 30.09. – 11.10.2002
CONS (V: 25)
The place
In the middle of the 6th century,
a french hermit called Goar settled at the bank of the Rhine river near
a presumed religious place up on the Loreley rock. Since this time, St.Goar
is one of the famous towns in the Middle-Rhine-Area, not only because of
its large ruin of the Rheinfels castle, former residence of the counts
of Katzenelnbogen and strongest fortress at the Rhine, but also for its
location in the center of the world-wide known ca?on-like river valley
between Koblenz and Bingen. This makes it to a place of great touristical
attraction, from which a lot of trips can be made to the many castles,
old cities and vineyards of this region. The youth hostel is located on
a slope right below the Rheinfels castle and has a marvellous view on the
river and the valley.
St.Goar can be easily reached by
train via Koblenz or Mainz. There is an airport connection to Frankfurt
via Mainz.
This region offers various facilities
for leisure time activities, such as extended walks through the large woods
of the Hunsr?ck mountains or bike trips along the river, a visit of the
Loreley, an afternoon in the nearby swimming-pool or a boat trip to R?desheim
or Braubach with its famous Marksburg. Several pubs and restaurants are
inviting places to linger the night over a glass of wine. Day trips to
Frankfurt, Mainz, Koblenz or Cologne are possible. A touristical programme
including cultural and social aspects will be offered.
The project
The project – carried out together
with the GMN-Bacharach - is planned for 20 persons over a period of two
weeks from 30-9-2002 until 11-10-2002. Major part of the work concerns
expert-guided teamwork restoration of a footpath between the youth hostel
and an old tusculum. This little summer house is part of a former park
and must be restored by interior furnishing. If there is time left, this
can be spend for woodcutting and landscape works in the area between the
tusculum and the youth hostel. This project is part of a more extensive
plan, connecting the city of St.Goar with the Rheinfels castle and the
trails over the Hunsr?ck mountains through a kind of culture path.
The speech is English. Working clothes,
especially sturdy shoes must be brought.
The accommodation
You will stay in the youth hostel
during all of the time and sleep in mostly simple double-rooms with a bathroom
on the floor. So you stay in a place very close to the working area.
The meal will be prepared by the
hostel, which also provides the sheets.

the countryside about 5 hours a day on various projects regarding the protection
of endangered species and biotopes. This work deals with, for example,
raking hay on so called „ecological meadows“, taking care of small marshlands,
pulling weeds and cutting bushes in the green areas ... Our experts will
also introduce you to the theoretical reasons for and basis of your work.
Leisure time: The afternoons and
evenings as well as weekends are mostly free. We will try to offer you
not only a big choice of various activities for your spare time: sport,
arranged excursions including guided tours, but also information about
culture and history of our region. You will be welcome to present your
own ideas and suggestions on how to spend your time, considering your and
our financial possibilities. Of course, it’s your holiday, and none is
going to force you to do anything you do not want to; the participation
in all the leisure time activities is voluntary.
Catering: The meals during the camp
will be offered by us. Every day two of you will be responsible for shopping
and cooking, which will set you free from work on that day!

It’s up to you to organise the trip from and to your country, the rest
is up to us. Although a big part of the free time activities will be paid

CONST/SUDY (V: 15)
In March 1933, just a few weeks after
Hitler "seized power", the National Socialists set up one of the first
concentration camps at Dachau, near Munich. It soon became the model for
all further concentration camps. It was also an SS training centre. In
the years between 1933 and 1945 more than 200.000 people of many different
nationalities were imprisoned in Dachau. Prisoners died as a result of
terror and the consequences of inhuman work, disease, exhaustion and hunger.
This workcamp will take part in the
context of the "International Youth Meeting". The main emphasis will
be laid on the history of Fascism through talking with eyewitnesses and
workshops. The current political situation will also be discussed and maintenance
work will be made at the memorial site. Cultural events and lots of common
activities are part of the Youth
Meeting, too.
Prerequisites: Age 16-26, good knowledge
