NIG 01 Synagogue

Works:
You will help to clean and to reconstruct
an former synagogue in the style of framework. This is typical for the
northern region of Germany. The main work will be with the material loam.
This workcamp is organised in cooperation
with the organisation Land & Leute e.V.

Location:
The town Röbel was already in the
middle of the 13. century an important place between the towns Schwerin
and Havelberg. The town Röbel is near the Müritz which is Germany’s biggest
lake. It possible to sail, to swim and to make trips with bicycles
in the wonderful nature. Excursions to cities like Rostock or Berlin
can be organised.
There are a lot of possibilities
to walk along the beautiful lake Müritz and to have a look at the pictureous
city. In Röbel you can find the Müritz-Therme, an indoor-swimming-pool
opened all year through.

Work:
The participants will work on the
area of an external camp of the former women’s concentration camp Ravensbrück
and a camp for prisoners of war. Prisoners had to work there under extreme
conditions. You will help with the securing, measuring and documenting
of the area. For this you also will be doing some archaeological work.
With this camp we want to continue with the successful work of last year.
Excursions to the former concentration camp Ravensbrück are planned, as
well as forums with former prisoners, inhabitants of Barth and Resistance
fighters. Furthermore the volunteers will be doing journalistic work
at the library, at a mediathek and also at the archives. The volunteers
must be interested in our delicate history. Excursions are planned to the
surroundings of Barth.
Accommodation: in a school
Location:
Barth that is surrounded by a beautiful
scenery, has 10.500 inhabitants. Its houses and other buildings are witnesses
of its eventful history, which began in the 10th century when the first
settlers founded a fishing village. Barth has become a tourist attraction
because of its good location on the shore of Bodden and close distance
to the Baltic Sea as well as to a national park. There are a lot of opportunities
of spending one’s leisure time in and around Barth.

Work:
You will work for a special project
called Arche e.V. in this small village close to Rostock. You help to lay
out a natural resort. The work includes also ecological farming. You should
prefer whole food. Canoeing-trips on the river Warnow are planned as well
as excursions to other cities.
Accommodation: in a barn (with toilet and shower) in Pölchow
Location:
Rostock ,situated north of Berlin,
is with its 220.000 inhabitants one of the biggest cities in the north-east
of Germany. Rostock is a traditional historical Hanseatic town. It is well
known for its interesting architecture and culture. Where the river Warnow
reaches the Baltic Sea there is an old fishing village called Warnemünde,
now part of the growing city. There are wonderful beaches and excellent
opportunities for relaxing and swimming. Because of the university there
is an interesting life for young people and students.
Trips to other towns nearby are possible.

Work:
You will work on translation about
places of interests and historical buildings in the surroundings of Himmelpfort
and Fürstenberg. Knowledge of the German language would be profitable (
writing, reading, understanding). Excursions to Berlin and other places
are planned.
Accommodation: in the village hall
Location:
Himmelfort is located near Fürstenberg
which is with its 10 000 inhabitants situated approx. 70km north of Berlin.
The scenery is formed by beautiful forests and many larger and smaller
lakes. An excursion to Berlin is planned. The sad history of Fürstenberg
began in the Second World War, when the Nazis built the largest concentration
camp for women in 1938/39.

Work:
The aim of the camp is to help the
working up of the history of the concentration camp Ravensbrück. For this
the volunteers will especially be doing journalistic work at the library,
at a mediathek and also at the archives. Therefore it is necessary that
you have good German skills (writing, understanding, reading).The volunteers
must be interested in our delicate history. To get to know some places
in the north of Germany excursions are planned.

in the north of Germany. During the Second World War the Nazis built one
of the biggest concentration camps there. Fürstenberg with its 10 000 inhabitants

The aim of the camp is to renovate
a house. That building is the youth club of the village. You will
work together with the local youth. Excursions are planned, too.

Graal - Müritz is located near Rostock
at the Baltic Sea and is famous as a health resort and for its beautiful
scenery. Even Graal - Müritz has only about 4000 inhabitants many tourists
go there in the summertime. Busses regularly go to Rostock which is with
its 220.000 inhabitants one of the biggest cities in the north-east of
Germany and furthermore a traditional historical Hanseatic town. It is
well-known for its interesting architecture and culture. Because of the
university there is an interesting life for young people and students,
too.

Work:
The aim of the camp is to renovate
a building near the city of Rostock.. This includes painting as well as
to repair things. You will work together with international students and
also have the possibility to get to know some places in the north of Germany
by taking part in excursions.

Work:
We are a group of young people, planning
to create a place of alternative living and culture. You are welcome in
an open-minded and colourful house. We organize this work camp to carry
out construction works around the house – no special knowledge is required.
You will work together with people who live in the house and organize the
project in the public part of the building in order to create a cultural
centre. The volunteers will also have the possibility to take part in excursions.
Accommodation:
Places for cooking, sleeping and
showers are provided in the house.
Location:
Leipzig ,situated south of Berlin,
is with its half a million of inhabitants one of the most important cities
of East Germany. It is a historical town of trade and culture. Because
of the University there is an interesting life for young people and students.
Many famous artists and scientists have lived in Leipzig. The actual location
is a 100 year old house including a garden which has to be restored.

Work:
The volunteers will be working on
the area of an adult education center. They will help to take care of the
center’s surroundings, but the main task of this camp will be the renovation
of the buildings. It is also planned to help with some gardening at the
local cemetery. Excursions can be organized, too.
Accommodation: main house and bungalows of the adult education centre
Location:
Lubmin, a nice little town on the
Baltic Sea coast, has 500 inhabitants and is situated close to the old
Hanseatic town Greifswald. It was founded in 1273. The premises of the
town stretch along a beautiful beach. You can spend your leisure time by
going to other old Hanseatic cities, such as Rostock, Greifswald and Stralsund,
and to the island of Rügen. The education center that will be hosting the
workcamp offers a range of activities for the volunteers within woodwork,
ceramics, painting and weaving.

Work:
The volunteers will be working on
the area of a nature resort. They will be taking care of its surroundings,
arrange a biotope and plant trees. They also will be working on a salt
meadow and furthermore take care for meadows of orchid.

Peenenmünde is situated in the north
of the island Usedom, between Peenestrom and Baltic Sea. It is surrounded
by forests and lawns. Here you may find the most different types of coast
with broad beaches and an imposing steep coast. Chains of hills surround
the water, marsh land, beach ramparts and dunes. Little villages nearby
have preserved a kind of naturalness. Trips to nature reserves, the birds`
protection island and the island „Greifswalder Oie„ are planned. Flora
and fauna have undisturbedly developed because the town was situated in
a prohibited area (between 1936 and 1989). This was know for its production
of V-weapons. Today you can find a museum with an Information Center and
a memorial scenery.

Work:
The volunteers will prepare the area
for a children’s camp that will take place during that time. We want to
design the location. You mainly will be constructing the outside area of
the building. You will have the chance to take part in excursions to the
surroundings.
Accommodation: Bungalows near the Greifswald- Bay
Location:
Gristow is a nice little village
directly at the Baltic Sea. It is situated near the old Hanseatic towns
Greifswald and Stralsund. There is an attractive little church in the village.
The nearby harbour and a pub are very tempting to linger. There are several
facilities for leisure time activities, for instance it is possible to
rent a bicycle in order to discover the beauty of the surroundings. Also
other sport facilities are offered, for example pool- billard. Trips to
Greifswald and Stralsund are planned.
Greifswald got its town charter in
1250 and became a member of the Hanseatic League in 1278. The town is famous
for its University that was founded in 1456. There are many sights that
are worth seeing, for instance the old centre with the town- hall, the
cathedral St. Nicolas and many beautiful houses. Stralsund has also an
interesting old city-centre. Churches, parts of the former city wall and
the Museum of Oceanography attract many tourists every year.

Volunteers: 10
Work:
Volunteers will be working in the
castle in Schmarsow which was buildt in the 16th century in the style of
baroque and renaissance. Today a lot of work has to be made up for the
reconstruction of the house. Your task will mainly be to renovate a room
in thewest part of the house which includes wall paintings as well as well
as to repair the plaster of the walls and the ceiling. The room has about
50 square meter and is equipped with marble. The aim of the work is to
reconstruct the room to the historical report. The volunteers will be supported
by a restaurateur. Furthermore you will have the possibility to work
in other rooms or outdoors. Parts of the house have to be pulled down or
tidied up. This workcamp is organised in cooperation with the organisation
Land & Leute e.V.

Location:
Schmarsow is a little village
near the city is Demmin which is 12km far away. Demmin is a famous Hanseatic
town where three rivers flow into each other in the area of the city. Furthermore
one can find many buildings which were built in former centuries. The area
has a very interesting and fascinating scenery. The river “Tollense” is
only three kilometres far away from Schmarsow. The volunteers have the
chance to go swimming, sailing and to make trips to the surroundings also
with bicycles. Furthermore you will have the chance to make excursions
to other bigger cities. Meetings with the local youth are also planned.

Work:
The aim of the camp is to renovate
a house. The building is the youth club of Schwaan. Besides the renovation
the participants have the possibility to to creak parts of the house in
their own way. You will work together with the local youth. Volunteers
will also have the possibility to go swimming in the river Warnow or to
make trips with bicycles to the beautiful scenery of the surroundings.

Schwaan is about 15km south of Rostock
located at the river Warnow. 5200 people are living in this town where
you can find many historical and interesting buildings. The surroundings
of Schwaan is furthermore a fascinating landscape. Excursions to
Cities around Schwaan like Rostock and Güstrow are possible.

Work:
The volunteers will work on the area
of the external camp of the former women’s concentration camp Ravensbrück
as well as on a nearby area which was used for prisoners of war ( Soviet
Union, United Kingdom, USA, France…). Another task is to translate reports
of prisoners. That’s why volunteers should have basic German language knowledge.
As the coast of the Baltic Sea is nearby you will have the chance to go
swimming, sailing or to make excursions to the surroundings.
