CONC.131 BESSILLES  (SOUTH SOUTHWEST) 31/05 - 22/06 12 VOLUNTEERS
SETTING UP OF A MOUNTAIN BIKE PATH
PROJECT: The Departmental Base of Bessilles (situated in the village of Montagnac) organizes animations during the year (cano?, kayak, archery, walks, geology, discovery of the flora, etc...) linked to the education of the environment. This year, the volunteers will have to create mountain bike paths in clearing vegetation and sign posting.   www.adfh.org/reseauvert.htm/

LOCATION: The village of Montagnac is 50 Km east of Montpellier (south of France) and 5 Km from P?zenas (Concordia's delegation which is in P?zenas will offer a "little coffe" and show round this very nice medieval town). Nice place to discover the hinterland of the H?rault and the M?diterran?e.

CONC 031 SAINT CAPRAIS DE BORDEAUX (AQUITAINE) 07/06- 29/06 14 VOLUNTEERS
A CELEBRATION OF TWIN VILLAGES.
PROJECT: A group of long-term international volunteers who spent six months in the village have done a census of all the local heritage sites, however small. This year the local partner has asked for the work-camp to take place at the same time as the visit of a group of visitors from the twin village in Portugal to give an international dimension to their visit and to the work-camp. The volunteers will create a public square called ‘jumelage place’ (“Twin Town Square”) in order to celebrate the twinning of the two villages.
WORK: Creation of a public square, picnic area and flower plantation
LOCATION: Saint Caprais de Bordeaux is 20km southeast of Bordeaux.
MEETING PLACE: The railway station (Gare St Jean) in Bordeaux.

CONC 061 MFR ESCUROLLES 1 (AUVERGNE) 07/06 - 29/06 10 VOLS       16-20 Y.O ONLY
ENVIRONMENT
PROJECT: Escurolles is a village of 750 inhabitants with an amazing architectural patrimony. In 1970, a formation center of the « Maisons Familiales et Rurales »  movement is created to contribute to the animation. The center, l’IFPAE (Institut de Formation Par Alternance d’Escurolles), possess a building and a park which need a restoration. The workcamp will encourage an exchange between the young people in formation and the volunteers.
WORK: masonry and work in the park.
LOCALISATION: Escurolles is at 18 km from Vichy, 8km from Gannat and 60 km North from Clermont-Ferrand.
ACCOMMODATION: Building of IFPAE.
MEETING POINT: Gannat train station.
WARNING: the workcamps will be done with young local people; open to the nature lovers because the village is isolated.
CONC 062 NONETTE (AUVERGNE) 07/06 - 29/06 10 VOLUNTEERS
BUILDING A FOOT-PATH.
PROJECT: Nonette is welcoming  a Concordia workcamp for the third year. The work is the follow up of the previous workcamps. You'll set up steps to the surrounding of the ruins of the castle. It stands on the hill of Nonette, dominating the valley of Lembron. The volunteers will meet the inhabitants who will offer them, as every year, a warm welcome, making them taste local specialities.
WORK: Setting up a footpath, building steps with ground and wooden poles.
LOCATION: 40 km south of Clermont-Ferrand.
MEETING PLACE: At the railway station, in Le Breuil-sur-Couze.
ACCOMMODATION: In tents, at the campground (a three-stars one!).
WARNING: The worksite is 1 km from the campsite.
CONC 111 GUIGNICOURT (PICARDY) 14 / 06 – 06 / 07 14 VOLUNTEERS
REHABILITATION WORK ON THE BANKS OF THE AISNE RIVER
PROJECT : Situated at the far east side of Laon, capital of the Aisne County, Guignicourt lies on the border of the Champagne region. For the second year running, Guignicourt hosts an international workcamp. Your arrival will have been prepared by members of the hosting workcamp organisation during the local village festival mid-may. You’ll carry on the work from last year: the aim is to rehabilitate an old unused tennis court (by the river) that will be later transformed into a picnic area and play area for children.
WORK : Masonry work (joints, ciment, installing of a bench...) and demolition work
SITUATION : Guignicourt is halfway between Laon and Reims, only 20 km from the historical Chemin des Dames
ACCOMMODATION : In tents at a local campsite. Sanitaries will be shared with the other campers.

WARNING: The work might be quite physical – anyone with back problems should think carefully.
 CONC.132 N?MES 1 (SOUTH SOUTHWEST) 14/06 – 06/07 13 VOLUNTEERS

RESTORING A SPRING
PROJECT: The town of N?mes is the owner of a wide old agricultural domain of Escattes, planted by the Romans in the area of Courbessac. A big project with the organisation SENIM forecast the fitting out of a leisure area, the plantation of an international centre of the olive-tree and the plantation of a park for animals. On this domain a spring has been fitted out and canalised. This year, the volunteers will carry on the work begun last year on clearing the vegetation around the spring and the canalisations.
WORK: Clearing vegetation and excavation.

CONC 032 LA BATAILLE DE CASTILLON (AQUITAINE) 24/06-15/07 10 VOLUNTEERS
PREPARATION AND SETTING UP OF THE ANNUAL RECONSTRUCTION OF THE BATTLE OF CASTILLON.
PROJECT: The small town of Castillon la Bataille was the site of the famous battle of 1453 which put an end to the 100 years war between the English and the French for control of Aquitaine. It also marked the end of the middle ages and the era of chivalry. Now, each year, this great battle is re-staged for the benefit and enjoyment of the public. The volunteers will help set up the d?cor : village, castle, inn, stables…they will be there on the opening day and could even take part , along with 500 or so other actors. Whether you are French, English or
from anywhere else you will be very welcome to take part in this exciting work-camp.
WORK: Setting up of scenery (heavy manual work), site clearance.
LOCATION: The pretty town of Castillon is situated 50km East of Bordeaux by the river Dordogne not far from St Emilion (for wine enthusiasts !).
MEETING PLACE: Castillon station: 3 km from camp site
ACCOMMODATION: Camping (to be confirmed).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Do not apply for this camp if you suffer from vertigo as there is a fair amount of work which requires climbing on scaffolding. Heavy physical work, sometimes at unsocial hours.
Bring a sunhat and protective cream as there’s not much shade.
CONC.133 CASTELNAU-de-LEVIS (SOUTH SOUTHWEST)  28/06 – 20/07 13 VOLUNTEERS
HERITAGE / INTERNATIONAL
SAVING THE CASTLE
AIM OF THE WORKCAMP: This is the eleventh year that Concordia organises a workcamp in Castelnau-de-Levis for the rehabilitation of the medieval castle (XIIIth) : restoration of the weak parts of the castle and improvement of this touristic place. With its impressive tower (40 m) and its ramparts, the castle overlooks the village, very crowdy in summer. In 2002, important works are planed around the castle. The Town council will require various works according to the necessities. Notice that the local population is very friendly and that an important close friendship is linked each year.   www.mairie-albi.fr

LOCATION: 5 Km from Albi. It is a historically rich area with many possibilities for walks and visits (the cathedral of Albi is very famous)

CONC 001 COUBLEVIE (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 12 VOLUNTEERS
ENVIRONMENT
PROJECT: Coublevie is a small town of about 4000 inhabitants, located in ‘Massif de la Chartreuse’. The local partner will welcome this first workcamp in partnership which Natural Park of La Chartreuse. The workcamp will focus on cleaning up trails in the park.  The volunteer will exchange experiences with local volunteers, and five of them will take part of the entire workcamp.
WORK: Cleaning up, signalisation of trails, and if you have time restoration of a washing-place.
LOCALISATION: At 5 km from Voiron, arround 25 km from Grenoble.
ACCOMODATION: in ‘Maison Familiale Rural’, really nice.

CONC 003 PRINGY (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 15 VOLUNTEERS
VARIOUS WORKS IN TOWN: FOOTBRIDGE, FOOTPATH, PAINTING
PROJECT: The town of Pringy will be hosting its first international workcamp for different installations projects: cleaning of a communal land, raising of a footbridge, work on a footpath but also various works in town such as painting. Here is the program! Concerning activities and cultural contacts, you should not be bored too: there is a lot of associations in Pringy. Plus, during the length of the workcamp the city is hosting a group of Rumanian young people. In French, the saying goes: "more we will be, more fun we will have!"
WORK:  Cleaning of scrub on the communal land and work on the footbridge close to it. Cleaning of the footpath going to the chapel of Ferri?res.
LOCATION: Very close to Annecy, in Haute-Savoy.
ACCOMMODATION: In a communal building close to the city sport playground.

CONC 005 TALISSIEU, (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 15 VOLUNTEERS 15-17 Y.O ONLY
INHERITANCE SAFEGUARD
PROJECT : Talissieu, a small village of 400 inhabitants, is pretty rich in numerous small "historical" buildings : bread oven, old defences walls, chapels, …For this fourth international camp, the aim of the group will be to continue the work of 2000 and 2001 : making gutters in stone, called "ras". The inhabitants of Talissieu are known for their legendary sense of welcoming camp participants.
WORK : Mainly masonry : pointing, picking, … with a local professional.
LOCATION : Talissieu is in the heart of the Bugey, at 350 m high, in the Rhone valley, one of France's biggest river, surrounded by beautiful mountains (among which Mount Colombier, some 1600 m high).
MEETING POINT : In Culoz train station.
ACCOMMODATION :.Common room for all, in an old school. Meal under the covered playground.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Bring good work gloves & shoes, warm and rain clothes.
CONC 002 CREMIEU (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 15 VOLS
RAMPARTS RESTORATION
PROJECT: The city council wants the group of young international volunteers to participate in the safeguard of the medieval inheritance by restoring the ramparts standing on the hill "Saint Hypolite". These ramparts have already been the occasion of numerous workcamps but considering the size of this site that will probably last for centuries of restoration…
WORK: With the help of A.R.R.C; (Association for the restoration of the Cremieu ramparts), you will clear, collect and select the fallen stones, and raise some parts of the ramparts.
LOCATION: This pretty medieval town of 3000 inhabitants is located 35 km from Lyon and 80 from Grenoble. The medieval central food market built during the fourteenth century, the old monasteries, the numerous old houses, the picturesque narrow streets, the monumental town gates, the local museum, … are waiting for your visit!
ACCOMMODATION: In the agricultural high school

CONC 004 SONGIEU,  (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 12 VOLUNTEERS
RESTORATION OF AN OLD CASTLE
PROJECT : It's the fourth time we work with the C.A.S. ("Cercle Amical de Songieu" : association for the rehabilitation of the "Ch?teauneuf"-New castle-, which is in charge of the work on the site) This castle was heard of for the first time in ... 1050 : CASTRO NOVO. After centuries of glory, it stands today in ruin above 70 m cliffs. It is a beautiful site. You will help restoring part of a keep, square tower (10m *10m) : some of its 8 m high walls are still there. The Bugey is a green area, covered with small villages and smiling mountains. Here, we live slowly and happily as our parents and grand-parents used to. It's really a little village, very quiet, an area reserved to the people who enjoy deep-rooted countryside lifestyle.
WORK : Meticulous work  for clearing heap of rocks. Another part of the work will be quite physical : clearing rubble with shovels and pickaxes, heavy stones handling for rebuilding, and also some stone carving.
LOCATION : Songieu is in the heart of the Bugey, at 750 m high. On a wide plateau, surrounded by beautiful mountains (Mount Colombier, some 1600 m high)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Bring GOOD work boots & gloves, warm and rain clothes.
MEETING POINT: In the train station of Culoz.
ACCOMODATION : In a home, located in the center of this beautiful 101 inhabitants village. The apartment is not big so please bring a tent if you can.
CONC 006 TERRE (ALPS) 05/07-27/07 12 VOLUNTEERS
RESTORATION OF A FARMHOUSE USING TORCHI AND PISE
PROJECT : The farm which we are going to work on is involved in a association network “la ferme aux enfants”, which consists of a group of farms receiving pupils for environmental programs. The particularity of this farm is that it’s built with traditional materials but also that ecologic-wise is behind each decision takes in the farm. This summer, we are going to continue the work of construction. You will be hosted in the farm in itself… right in the middle of sheep’s and the hand-made pullover… and not to forget, two steps away of the traditional bread-oven.
WORK: Big construction works but very interesting because achieved in a traditional way: with pis? and torchi, a natural and ecological kind of building.
LOCATION: La Chapelle du Chatelard is a little town between Lyon, on south, and Bourg-en-Bresse, on north. Located in Ain, area which is full of little ponds.
ACCOMMODATION : in the farm.
MEETING POINT: Ch?tillon-sur-Chalaronne train station.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Bring good shoes and working gloves. Be careful, this site is lovely but isolated !!! For the lovers of the quiet and calm countryside only.
CONC 033 BERGOUEY (AQUITAINE) 05/07 – 27/07 12 volunteers
PROJECT : The association “Adour Ursuia” participates in cultural, social and economic tourist development in the region “Pays de Bidache, Hasparren, and the villages of Bardos and Bastide Clairence”. The villages of Bergouey and Viellenave are situated on the pilgrim routes leading to Santiago de Compostella and possess some ruined middle-ages castles, an old church from the XIII century, a suspension bridge, a ruined mill and an old washing-place which is completely hidden by vegetation. Volunteers will be warmly welcomed by the inhabitants and the municipality.
WORK: Scrub-clearance, general clearance work masonry and environmental work.
LOCALISATION : 50 km from Bayonne and Pau, close to Bidache and St Palais.

 CONC 007 UGINE (ALPS) 05/07- 27/07 12 VOLUNTEERS
VARIOUS WORKS IN TOWN.
PROJECT : Ugine hosted many international camps, plus some smaller "national" camps during the rest of the year. Because of its dominant position in an alpine valley, Ugine was fortified during the medieval era. The still existing walls and towers help the city keep part of its original aspect. That’s why the city council wishes to keep intact as much as possible of this patrimony. So far, our groups restored a XVI century watch tower, a mountain chapel and a mountain shelter. This year you will continue the construction of the supporting wall and if there is some time less some works on hiking tracks in mountain pastures are scheduled too.
WORK : masonry on walls: stones sorting, construction, redoing the joints and stone brushing and tracks cleaning.
LOCATION : Some 8 km from olympic's Albertville, Savoy, in the hearth of the Alps. Many walks scheduled : bring your shoes, rucksack and a good sleeping bag.
MEETING POINT : bus stop of Ugine's town hall.

CONC 008 VAUX-EN-BUGEY, (ALPS) 05/07- 20/07 12 VOLUNTEERS
VILLAGE'S ROOM REHABILITATION
 PROJECT: The village hosts its third international camp. Plus, the area of the Bugey is an inevitable spot for Concordia workcamps. Inhabitants there are open-minded, warm, talkative and welcoming. Last year volunteers began the restoration of an old barn in order to host a wines and vineyards museum. The association "Maison Panis" would like to continue the restoration of the barn only with the use of stones. Last week of July, the village will prepare its local summer holiday . You’re welcome again.
WORK : Continuing the inside restoration of the building, a beautiful barn with stoned-built wall. You will have to redo the joints in between the visible stones of the four walls. If there is some time left, various outside works around the barn will also be scheduled.
LOCATION : 50 km east of Lyon, 30 km south of Bourg en Bresse, Vaux is in a hilly area (le Bugey) in the Ain.
MEETING POINT : In front of the train station of Amb?rieu en Bugey, 5 km away.
ACCOMMODATION : In a beautiful, big old house located in the center of the village, "La Maison Panis". There is a gorgeous park just behind -no kidding- with a bread oven. Just think about all the breads, cakes, pies and pizzas you will bake !

CONC 034 BOURG-SUR-GIRONDE 1 (AQUITAINE) 05/07- 27/07 14 VOLUNTEERS
RESTORATION OF THE OLD TOWN WALL
PROJECT : Bourg-sur-Gironde is a fortified village situated on the bank of the Gironde Estuary where the Garonne and Dordogne rivers meet. One of the towers in the ramparts is at risk of collapsing and the children at the local school cannot use a large part of their playground because of this. The aim of the work-camp is to restore the town wall… as well as to enjoy the beauty of the village, taste the famous local wines and learn about the history of the Estuary…
WORK : Restoration of the stone-built wall. traditional masonry.
LOCATION : Close to Blaye, 50km to the North of Bordeaux.

CONC 035 CARIGNAN DE BORDEAUX (AQUITAINE) 05/07 -27/07 14 VOLUNTEERS
PAINTING AND DECORATING THE VILLAGE HALL.
PROJECT :  This village has hosted workcamps for four years now and is very keen to host another this year, to promote the meeting of different cultures and of different generations. Past workcamps have restored the presbytery, the churchyard wall, a footpath and the wall surrounding the school playground. This year’s volunteers will restore the cemetery wall already started last year.
WORK : traditional masonry of a stone wall.
LOCATION : Situated on a small hill, Carignan de Bordeaux is surrounded by vines, woodland and stone quarries. It is close to the river Garonne  and only 30 minutes by bus  (10 km) from Bordeaux. The Atlantic coast is 60km away.
MEETING PLACE : The railway station at Bordeaux (Gare St Jean).

CONC 037 DAX (AQUITAINE) 05/07 -27/07 10 VOLUNTEERS 16-20 Y.O ONLY
“L’amour  est enfant de boh?me”
PROJECT : the youth service of the town of Dax wants to receive an international Concordia work-camp to enable the young people of isolated quarters of the city to meet people from other countries, to have an intercultural experience and to open up their horizons. These young people have a meeting-place in a local house which needs some improvements. With the local youth leaders, the international group will paint and decorate the home and will participate in different local activities. A great way to discover the charming city of Dax with its hot spring water, and the huge Landes forest bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.

LOCALISATION: Dax is situated between Mont de Marsan and Bayonne in the Landes.

 CONC 036 LA CONVENTION (AQUITAINE) 05/07 -27/0711 VOLUNTEERS
 “Conventionnel?”
PROJECT: “La Convention” is an association which Concordia has worked with for many years now. This is a youth home for teenagers in difficulties, either suffering from psychological problems (autism for example) or with social or family problems. Each summer, we receive on our work-camps some of these young people, they can enjoy the volunteer spirit in an intercultural exchange.
Some of them are used to coming and are members of Concordia association and bring their energy, differences and a lot of enthusiasm. In 2001, for the first time, two of them went abroad for short term voluntary projects. In 2002, after ten years of collaboration and for the first time, “La Convention” will receive a group of young people coming from different countries and working with some of the young people from the youth home. There is a big wooden shed to dismantle and a shelter to built which will be used as a tool store for agricultural tools. The work-camp will be situated on a farm owned by an association receiving young autistics.
WORK: carpentry, dismantling and various manual tasks...

CONC 038 LAPLUME (AQUITAINE) 05/07 -27/07 12 volunteers
Laplume & l’encrier
PROJECT : The little village of Laplume, in Lot & Garonne, possess several washing-place restored by the local association. This year the workcamp aim will be to paved a little road in the village.
WORK : To paved a little road.
LOCALISATION : The village is at 20 km south from Agen.

CONC 039 MARTIGNAS (AQUITAINE) 05/07 -27/07 10 VOLS 15-17 Y.O ONLY
“Paillo paillo paillotte”
PROJECT: the town of Martignas, at 20kms from Bordeaux, does a lot for the local youth. Indeed, every summer the young people of the community participate in a youth work-camp. With their local youth leader they have worked to improve some park-land an outdoor theatre or to build a footbridge... And they would really like to experience the spirit of living together with young people from other countries and developing citizenship in an international context. This year, the project will be the construction of a “paillotte”, which means constructing a covered wooden picnic table and some benches.
WORK : carpentry.
LOCALISATION: city of Martignas, 20 kms from Bordeaux.

ACCOMMODATION : in tents.
CONC 040 SAMES (AQUITAINE) 05/07 – 27/07 12 volunteers

CONC 065 MAURS 1 (AUVERGNE) 05/07 - 27/07 11 VOLUNTEERS 16-20 Y.O ONLY
RESTORATION
PROJECT : Maurs organised this year two workcamps, this one will be more urban. The objective is to restore a little building where before people weight animals. Also this workcamps will be the occasion to share experience with local young people.
WORK : little masonry, work with wood for the roof and treatment of the wood.
LOCALISATION : Maurs is a village of 2000 inhabitants located at 40 km South / Southwest of Aurillac.
ACCOMMODATION : under tent with the sanitary in the gymnasium.
MEETING POINT : Maurs train station.
ATTENTION : The village is really isolated, it is a rural workcamp nature lover are more then welcome.  Bring warm clothes, nights are cold !

 CONC 066 OLLIERGUES (AUVERGNE) 05/07 - 27/07 11 VOLUNTEERS 16-20 Y.O ONLY
ENVIRONMENT
PROJECT : The local partner in Olliergues is realising the workcamp to re-open an old trail  that conduct to wild area from the village and to clean up a train road used by a little touristy train.  This workcamp will be organised by the village where pass this train and a local association.
WORK : Clean up trails.
LOCALISATION : Olliergues is located at 60 km East from Clermont-Ferrand.

PROJECT : Salins had already welcome international workcamp.  Volunteers had restored pedestrian trail to access to the cascade. The municipality want to re new the experience with the objective to restore a wall close to the church. The group will also take part to the organisation of the village party end of July on the last week end.

RESTORATION OF A LITTLE BRIDGE
PROJECT : Saint-Martin Cantal?s, very isolated, only 200 inhabitants in several localities but located in a beautiful landscape. The workcamp will take place during the local fair already programmed which will offer the opportunity for the volunteer to exchange experience with the inhabitants.  Several work are planned such as the realisation of public space with little garden close to the town Hall and the restoration of a little old bridge in rock.
WORK : Realisation of green area and trail in a public garden. Stone reuse for the bridge and consolidation of the bridge with rock and stone, some masonry.
LOCALISATION : Saint-Martin-Cantal?s is a very small village at 35 km North of Aurillac.

CULTURAL WORKCAMPS
PROJECT: Alen?on has been welcoming volunteers for 4 years. This dynamic town of 30.000 inhabitants will received volunteers to restore green space through the creation of a collective sculpture.
WORK: In collaboration of the Contemporary Arte Center of the town you will build a statue already designed. This piece of art will be build with traditional material only (rock and wood). The work will be proceeded on 4 steps during the three weeks.

RESTORING THE BANKS OF A STREAM
PROJECT: Saint-Denis d'Anjou is known as being one of the prettiest villages in the Mayenne as it has kept its typically medieval style. The mayor has happy memories of a Concordia workcamps in the village…40 years ago !   the inhabitants want to welcome you back in order to make you discover its beautiful area.
WORK: The Go?lleux is a stream which crosses the village, with houses and gardens. The work will be rebuilding crumbled walls.
LOCATION: Saint Denis is in the Mayenne, 70 Km South-west from Le Mans. The region is rich with castles, abbeys and waterways.

PROJECT : Local communities ask Concordia to participate at the rehabilitation of the site « Le Gasseu » within the framework of restoration project of the St Leonard des Bois Community. This workcamps is one step of the general rehabilitation based on environmental education and sport in the nature.

IMPROVE OF FOOTPATH
PROJECT: Concordia will organise a workcamps in this village for the second time.    Based in the Green area of Pays d'Auge, Vimoutiers has managed paths for rambling and mountain biking. The community is willing to associate young people in there project to improve and restore the footpaths for mountain biking.
WORK : clearing of the undergrowth, restore signalisation for tables and barbecue area. Create a trail guide in French with historical background.

RESTORATION OF A LOCAL CHURCH
PROJECT : Situated in the Somme Valley, Breilly has many footpaths around the marshes and ponds that constitute the valley. For the second year running, Breilly hosts an international workcamp. Following the success last year with the local population, the aim this time is to incite more young people to participate the full length of the camp. We’re counting on you to come up with some activities to propose to the local population.

CLEARING VEGETATION OF A FEUDAL FORTRESS
PROJECT : After five successful years of workcamps, the village council of Barbaira decided to welcome a new group. The works will be on the surroundings of the castle of Miramont (fortress of the XI-XIIth with nice important ruins, see www.cathares.org ). This year the volunteers will carry on clearing the vegetation around the castle, cleaning the pine-forest down this castle and do various arrangements begun by the last workcamps. Notice that the local population is very friendly and that an important close friendship is linked each year. A medieval festival is organised during the last week. Barbaira, between the Corbi?res and the Minervois, overlooks the Valley of the river Aude.

REHABILITATION OF RUINS
PROJECT : This village of 70 inhabitants works with Concordia for the third time. The Parc Natural R?gional du Narbonnais, the Association Pierres Vives and the village council decided to restore a mill in the village and to carry on the arranging of the ruins of the Fortress of Hortoux (XIIth century). They will discover this splendid area, famous for its wines, between see and Corbi?res with so welcoming inhabitants.

RESTORING A SPRING
PROJECT : The town of N?mes is the owner of a wide old agricultural domain of Escattes, planted by the Romans in the area of Courbessac. A big project with the organisation SENIM forecast the fitting out of a leisure area, the plantation of an international centre of the olive-tree and the plantation of a park for animals. On this domain a spring has been fitted out and canalised. This year, the volunteers will carry on the work begun last year on clearing the vegetation around the spring and the canalisations.

PROJECT: Last year, the town of Pamiers and the Village Community have called upon Concordia’s volunteers to restore a roman bridge over the river Crieu. In 2002, the volunteers will restore the foot-path linking two parts of the town and looking down upon a nice landscape. They will be able to do a technical work in alternation with the discovery of this city, its important historical remains, and its beautiful panoramas. PROJECT : Completely destroyed during the First World War, the village of Bourlon now has 1200 inhabitants. It has several war memorials, a church, two small chapels and a few services (Post Office, Caf?, Grocers, riding centre…). Wishing to restore the little heritage that it still possesses, the local community wish to associate the young people to the project. We would like you to be at the initiative of activities involving the local population. You will start your workcamp by sharing the national French holiday with the inhabitants of Bourlon.

VARIOUS WORKS IN TOWN
PROJECT: The town of Neuville-les-Dames is experiencing the international workcamp since 1998. Three groups of volunteers already restored an old wash-house and cleaned its access footpath.  This summer, volunteers will do various restoration works in town. The inhabitants are used to the international workcamp. No doubt,  you will be very well welcomed. Lots of contacts and leisure activities to be done !

LOCATION: In the heart of "La Bresse", which is 20 kms west of Bourg en Bresse and 60 kms north of Lyon. "La Bresse" is a rather flat and green area with many small ponds and lakes. The old farm houses are big and beautiful.

RESTORATION OF A LOCAL CHURCH
PROJECT : Called GERINCURTIS in medieval times, situated in the Valley of Pas-en-Artois, this village is in the heart of the countryside and rurality even today with only 50-60 local inhabitants. Its church, Notre-Dame, dates from 1786 and is situated in the centre of the village. After having worked on the valorisation of the outside of the church, the local community wish to restore the interior and at the same time bring some new life to the village the time of one summer.

RESTORATION OF LOCAL HERITAGE: A CHAPEL AND RAILWAY WELLS
PROJECT : The local community called ‘Pays de Fr?vent’ (Frevent land) unites several villages and together they promote their local heritage and their youth actions. It is situated in the Canche Valley: home of trout fishing, walks by the river and in the woods and several historical monuments. Several young people from this area will take place in the project – they will be able to help you discover the area. You’ll be working in two different villages: Monchel sur Canche where the legend says that Saint Just, wounded in battle, walked to the top of the hill to pray, where the chapel lies today; and Fortel-en-Artois where you’ll restore some of the last remaining railway wells.

PROJECT : The "Conservatoire du Littoral de Normandie" is an association in charge of the preservation of the coastal of Normandy.   This year, our partner would like to associate young people to its project of rehabilitation of an historic sites: the ruins of the "Cotentine Farm". PROJECT : This little town uses to welcome Concordia’s workcamps for many years. This year the volunteers will restore weak parts of this famous lane (classed to the World Heritage) on rebuilding little walls along this lane and on restoring some damaged parts of the pavement so that the walkers could walk more easily. A good place to discover this beautiful mountainous and rural area : cutleries of Laguiole and roman buildings.

RESTORING THE INNER WALLS OF A MARITIME FORTRESS
PROJECT : Fort-Brescou is an island opposite Le Cap d'Agde on which a fortress has been build in the XVIth, and used for a while as a jail. Unique in the area, famous touristy attraction, this fortress suffers from the wind and the sea. Since nine years the village council of Agde has requested Concordia to restore it. In 2002, two new groups will settle on the island for three weeks, without electricity, without running water, without night-club...only tourists coming to visit the fortress by boat 4 times a day. RESTORATION OF AN OLD CASTLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORK
PROJECT : A few years ago, one could read : "the castle of Rochefort is a threat to the village, which it was once protecting", because the castle was crumbling down. Since 1991, Concordia have worked on the building and there's still a lot to do (probably another century or so) ! Villagers get in work camps spirit & local people are fully hospitable. If you don't know the area of "le Bugey", once you've tried it, you can't say no anymore.
WORK: For this 11th time, you will have to continue recent year’s work on sustaining walls. Masonry work. Environmental works are also scheduled on a communal land: cleaning scrub and tracing a footpath for example.
LOCATION: The village of Cressin is 80 km east of Lyon near the "lac du Bourget" .
ACCOMODATION: In the village’ school, common room for all. Many young people in the village, for those who like local contacts.

WORK ON A HIKING FOOTPATH
PROJECT: Lanslevillard is situated in the heart of the Haute-Maurienne, a wild valley surrounded by amazing mountains. The town council would like to create a footpath going around the village. This path is a part of a group of footpaths aimed to discover the neighbouring of the village but also the chapels and the oratories recently restored. All that with a beautiful view on the valley! The haute-Maurienne is rich of an important architectural & artistic inheritance, lots of walking possibilities as well… not to speak of the closeness of Italy.
WORK: Some parts of the footpath exist yet but are in very bad shape. Other parts are to be created and traced. Clearing scrub, cutting trees and bushes is what is awaiting for you. Some work to make the path more accessible, making wood log stairs if necessary.
LOCATION: In Haute-Maurienne, 25 kms away of Modane in Savoy, close to Italian border.
ACCOMODATION: Communal building, near the football field.

RESTORATION OF THE WASH-HOUSE OF CHAVAGNIEUX
PROJECT: That is the second part of the work done for the very old & nice wash-place of Chavagneux. Last year, a group of volunteers realised a big part of paving the surroundings of the wash-place. This summer, you will finish the paving with round pebbles on the sides of the washtub. Lots of interactions with local youth & association made the 2001 edition an unforgettable experience. WORK: Posing the round pebbles, a quite technical work which needs to be a little meticulous. Works of pavement on the surroundings.
LOCATION: In the hearth of Dombes, 35 km south of Bourg en Bresse and 35 north-east of Lyon. Meximieux is a small town (6 000 inhabitants) which now lives a very strong growth due to its closeness of Lyon.
ACCOMMODATION: In a communal building.

VALORIZING THE "EPINE" BARN
PROJECT : After four very good experiences (1998-2001), the town council wishes to welcome another international group in order to favour some more encounters with its inhabitants. The old Epine's barn, meant to be an ecological museum, has been renovated in 2000 and 2001. This year, the work would consist in continuing to valorise the site by restoring the surrounding walls. Some cleaning work is scheduled on the "sentier des chapelles" (the chapels' footpath) a footpath done by volunteers of the first international workcamps.
WORK: Masonry on the surrounding walls of the Epine barn: stones sorting, construction with lime mortar, joints & stones brushing. Clearing scrub on the chapels' footpath: clearing vegetation invasions, bushes cutting… Finally, if there is time less, the village old wash-house, cleaned in 1999, will need some work too. What a program!
LOCATION: Novalaise is in the Alps foothills, located 70 km east of Lyon and about 20 west of historical Chambery, in Savoy. One of the Alps most beautiful natural lakes lies 4 km away.

CREATION AND CLEANING OF HIKING PATHES IN MOUNTAIN PASTURE

PROJECT: For the sixth year in a row, Sainte-Agn?s will be hosting a group of young volunteers. The groups have always been wonderfully welcomed. The village would like to maintain this international workcamp spirit. That is why there will be a lot of contacts of different aspects during these three weeks of your stay. Different works are scheduled on the village and the hamlets around.  Works on hiking paths in the mountain paths in the near by are also planned for a week… During this week, housing will be in the heart of the mountains of Belledonne!
WORK: Work and cleaning on footpaths… Long walks will be needed to achieve such a labour.
LOCATION : Ste-Agn?s is 15 km north-east of Grenoble, on Belledonne at an altitude ranging from 200 (Isere valley) to … nearly 3 000 (Croix de Belledonne) !

TRACING AND SIGNPOSTING OF FOOTPATHS
PROJECT: Sonnay is a little village situated in the fertile plains of Roussillonnais. Lots of different fruits and vegetables are grown there and the orchards give the landscape the aspect of a hilly garden. The commune of Sonnay processes an important network of paths connecting the several hamlets of the village. The council wants to valorize this paths for hiking and mountainbiking. The area is full of discovering possibilities: Palais Id?al (Ideal Palace), archeological site of Vienne… and hiking of course, you are two steps away of the Natural Park of Pilat! (Parc Naturel du Pilat)

DEVELOP THE WORTH OF THE OLD WATCH TOWER "CORNILLON"

PROJECT: The « Friends of Old St Rambert » help to restore and clean the local inheritance. Among many things, one can find an old tower, half ruined, on top of the valley and surrounded by bushes. Last year the international workcamp cleaned the area in order to welcome hikers and family on this beautiful picnic spot. The "Friends …" were enthusiast about the 2001 edition, that's why they've wished to welcome another group of volonteers to pursue the project.
WORK: You will be in charge of cleaning the Cornillon tower area. You will also do some small masonry (access stairs, walls consolidation). Be careful, the tower is located on a natural promontory, with steep approaches, close trees might be a complication too. Caution is a sure thing.
LOCATION: St Rambert en Bugey holds about 2000 inhabitants and is located between  Chambery and Bourg en Bresse, 60 km east of Lyon. XVth and XVIth century houses, a gothic church, wonderful scenery in the "Albarine" valley, all of this awaits you. Of course, a lot of hikes will be on hand too.

PROJECT : Saint-Mary-le-Plain will welcome an international workcamp for the first time, the municipality wish to share with volunteers and young local people . The project consist to restore an old tower and to clean the trail to access at this tower. An historical research will be implemented to know the tower history.

RESTORATION OF LOCAL CHAPEL
PROJECT : In the 19th Century, the two villages of Grouches and Luchuel were united. Situated in the Valley of the Grouches, nature lovers will find themselves at home here. Close to Lucheux and to Doullens, two historical towns, architecture and history fans will enjoy their stay in Grouches. Following the success of international camps in 2000 and 2001, the local community wish to continue the restoration work on the chapel by organising another international workcamp. As the local young people are very active and involved each year during the camps, we could like you to be able to practise your French.  It will also allow you to involve more easily the older population of the village – the local council would like the local population in general to be more present during the camps and be more active around the chapel project –hopefully future meeting room for local associations.

SITUATION : Grouches Luchuel is situated a few km from Doullens in the northern parts of the Somme county, not far from Arras.

RESTORATION OF OLD CASTLE MOAT.
PROJECT : In the South of the Oise County, this town harbours a superb park and old castle moat. The castle no longer exists but the moat itself  makes the landscape of the park interesting. International workcamps started the restoration of this moat in 1998, after a year’s break, the town wishes to host once again an international camp. During the camp, several evenings will be organised at local peoples homes so that you can really exchange with the locals. You will surely be asked to help the town organise an open day where local inhabitants will be invited and an international buffet prepared by you and the locals.

This footpath was re-opened two years ago is sneaking in between hills and vineyards to end up discovering a beautiful panoramic view on the lake. RESTORATION OF A FORMER ARMY STATION
PROJECT: Leyment is a little and very dynamic village in Ain. This town is organising the second largest French antiques fair (first one is in Lille). The town wants the group to be involved in the organisation of this fair. Also, the city wants to change what was an army station into a municipal building to organize there some cultural events and others festivities. Various works are scheduled to be able to use this big building.
WORK: Masonry inside and outside the building (roughcast, joints, environment works around the building), and during the last week of the camp you will help for the organisation of the fair.

VARIOUS WORKS IN REINACH PROPERTY
PROJECT: Just imagine a castle and its park of 35 hectares just in front of the Bauges' mountains, close to Chamb?ry (5kms)… Here you are, in the Reinach property which is today an agricultural high-school and an educational farm. An original and dynamic partnership between the town, the school and the staff in charge of the conservation and development of the park lead to this international workcamp. The work to do is outstanding but the group will begin with the rehabilitation of a humid area. The municipal team wants the local youth to be involved in this project. That is why we can assume a lot of cultural exchanges in this very dynamic city!
WORK: Cleaning work along a stream, cleaning footbridges on the humid zone, clearing of scrub, trees…

RESTORATION OF A  CHAPEL

PROJECT: The town of Saint-Alban wishes to highlight the setting of  this very old chapel on top of the Verdon valley. Several historical researches has been made on this beautiful site, and the first human presence has been classed 40 centuries ago. Today the ruins of the roman chapel (XIIth century) are invaded by vegetation. The village is composed of several hamlets, one of them St Alban is known for its vineyards and refreshing wine.  A lot of discovering activities are possible such as the Cerdon's caves or the gorges of the Ain. However the village of St Alban is relatively isolated. That's why the camp is reserved to the quiet countryside lovers.
WORK: Cleaning works on the surroundings of the chapel. Masonry on the cleared walls to fortify them. Short walk will be needed to go on site.

One of the towers in the ramparts is at risk of collapsing and the children at the local school cannot use a large part of their playground because of this. The aim of the work-camp is to restore the town wall… as well as to enjoy the beauty of the village, taste the famous local wines and learn about the history of the Estuary…

PROJECT : A small typical south-west France village with a rich history. Unique in Europe, the prehistoric cavern of “Pair-non-Pair” is amazing for its drawings, witnesses of the dawn of humanity. The white stone of this region was used for Bordeaux building constructions of the XVIII century.
Actually, a natural park (24 hectares) with fauna and flora and a natural beauty that is shared by walkers and anglers. This village was chosen by several movie-makers such as Robert Hossein for “Les Miserables”.
A dynamic Village Council is looking forward to hosting international volunteers to discovering other cultures and have many rich exchanges and discussions.
This year the volunteers will work at cleaning up and restoring a water-cress pool (a place where you grow water-cress !) in the park of Moron. The volunteers will work outside in this site of natural beauty. The aim of the camp is to keep alive the past history of the village.

RENOVATION
PROJECT : Since 1993, Concordia redo different trails on the hills surroundings Clermont-Ferrand, making them more practicable (clearing footpaths and small stonework on low walls). This action aims to improve the site, to give back its previous look  (hedges, vineyards) and to create a centre of interest of nature close to the town. A local partnership was set up before with the youth of Clermont-Ferrand living next to the workcamp, to take advantage of the presence of the international volunteers to make new encounters. The closeness of the town offers a lot advantages but the project is most of all collective. Leisure actvities of the group will be privileged over the individual ones. You won't be able to go out at night that often.

OBERVATION SITE  REHABILITATION
PROJECT : Egliseneuve has a very active social life. The inhabitants want to work with Concordia and hope to meet youth from the whole world. This year the workcamp project is to rebuild a stone wall in the panoramic site for astronomy observation where you can find already observation tables.  is the reason why this camp takes place out of season. An open air theatre is to be built in the centre of the village and the technical project will be part of this construction. Egliseneuve is inside the marvellous regional park called “Parc Livradois-Forez”

REHABILITATION OF WASHING-PLACE
PROJECT : In the last century, St-Roch saved the area of St-Etienne from the black-death. To thank him, people built chapels in his honour. One of them is located in St-Didier and has been restored since 1998. Concordia takes part in this restoration. The workcamp aims is the restoration of three washing-place at the proximity of St Didier.

LOCALISATION: Saint Didier en Velay is located at 30 km South of Saint Etienne, very closed to the regional park of Pilat.

Emma?s, laic impulse of solidarity, was born in 1949 from a mutual aid and help will for all the suffering people, coming from socially privileged persons and from unprovided persons. From that date, under the impulse of the Abb? Pierre, the “comrades” work all over the world to help the more unprovided persons to rediscover security, dignity and autonomy with work and mutual aid. They collect all kind of equipment (electric domestic appliances, furniture’s, cloths, etc), they repair and sell it. The profit is used to make live underprivileged people and to go further more in the solidarity.

PROJECT : In partnership with the GIVE (International Group of the Volunteers Emma?s), Concordia puts in place a workcamp. The volunteers led by Emma?s comrades will work partly with the comrades (recovering, sorting, sale, cooking for a group of 30 persons, etc) and partly on the Emma?s buildings (painting, restoration). They will share the life of the comrades as well as the life of the international volunteers.

RESTORING A MEDIEVAL SITE
PROJECT : The town council of the tiny village of Les Aires decided to restore a XIIth century chapel near the Xth century ruined castle of Mourcairol looking down upon a marvellous landscape. This year the volunteers will clear the vegetation and clean around the chapel and the castle in order to put the ruins in value and to help to the beginning of the study for excavations. RESTORING THE INNER WALLS OF A MARITIME FORTRESS
PROJECT : Fort-Brescou is an island opposite Le Cap d'Agde on which a fortress has been build in the XVIth, and used for a while as a jail. Unique in the area, famous touristy attraction, this fortress suffers from the wind and the sea. Since nine years the village council of Agde has requested Concordia to restore it. In 2002, two new groups will settle on the island for three weeks, without electricity, without running water, without night-club...only tourists coming to visit the fortress by boat 4 times a day. RESTORING A MEDIEVAL SITE
PROJECT : Olargues is a pleasant medieval listed village. Since 1994, the township works with Concordia to rehabilitate the surroundings of the castle, to restore the covered way (with 4 surveillance towers cut in the stone) and to make easier access to the castle. The main tower overlooks the village. The works of the six next years helped to restore many parts of the ancient castle. As works prolonged, a program of archaeological excavations has been put in place. This year again, in the framework of this program, different works will be realised by volunteers having an experience in archaeology or history. Welcome in a unique natural site in Europe (Regional Park of the High Languedoc).

RESTORATION OF THE WATERMILLS OF VAL GELON

PROJECT: The association "Bien Vivre en Val Gelon" is the coordinator of several activities to discover the area. The organisation has set the goal to valorise the Gelon river and its valley with the help of an educational footpath to discover the natural settings and historical legacy. Lots of mills (plaster, lime or cereals) are here and there along the waterway. The objective will be to prevent  these watermills of collapsing down but also to clean and sometimes redo the educational footpath. The valley already enthusiastically hosted several workcamps. A leader of the association, specialized in the natural aspects of this environment will propose  to discover the local fauna and flora. You also will be at the bottom of the famous mountains "Belledonne".
WORK : Some masonry on the watermills, tracing and cleaning of the educational footpath. Signposting if needed.
LOCATION: in the Val Gelon Valley some km away of the town of La Rochette. Midway from Chamb?ry to Albertville, Savoy.

RESTORATION OF THE FORT OF TAMIE

PROJECT: The Fort of Tami? is a fortification built just after the war of 1870 to defend the Savoyan frontier from an eventual Italian attack. This Fort is a part of the tour "Pierre Forte". Just above Albertville, the Fort has been suffering of several weather deteriorations. That's why some restoration work is needed on the outside walls  of the building. The Fort is ideally situated : just on the surroundings of Albertville's valley, you will have a panoramic view on the Alps around: Mont-Blanc, Belledone, Beaufortin… Just enough to enjoy your eyes and your legs !
WORK : Masonry on the deteriorated parts of the Fort.
LOCATION : Nearly 10 kilometres away from the Oplympic's Albertville, Savoy.
MEETING POINT : In Albertville train station.
ACCOMMODATION : In the Fort itself like real spies !

PARTICIPATION FOR A COLLECTIVE WORK ART CREATION
PROJECT : As you surely know, the Maurienne Valley is the longest alpine valley : 120 km long, it links France and Italy. And as you also know, Hannibal (the Carthaginian, not the serial killer !) came through here some 22 centuries ago. Solid’Art is a non-profit organisation founded 10 years ago to create a work art about the valley. After a contest, it was decided to build a huge "halo". It is 100 by 100 meters and composed by 42 000 little halos on which one can find sentences from various people, famous or not, as well as drawings. Of course, you will get to do your own. Last year, the association Solid'Art hosted dynamically its first international workcamp. They are just waiting for you. A group of three European Volunteers should work on this project by the beginning of June, part of the EVS, European Volunteer Service.
WORK : As the halo is on a rather steep hillside, you will have to prepare the ground to hold each piece, bring and install them. It will be physical work, sometimes even strenuous as it is on a southerly exposed (thus HOT) side.
LOCATION : Ste Marie de Cuines is halfway through that beautiful valley, some 6 km from St-Jean de Maurienne, 50 km from Olympics Albertville and 40 km from Italy. The surroundings mountains' top are standing at 3000 m and one of numerous activities to be found there is "via ferrata". To discover.

PROJECT : the grouped communities of Nauze and  B?ss?de are criss-crossed by footpaths giving access to many elements of local heritage which are worth preserving . Last year, the project was to restore two former communal washing places. This year, on programme we’ve got the washing places, some dry stone walls and stone crosses...You will be accommodated in an old chapel changed into a lodging lost in a luxuriant countryside close to some of the well known tourist sites of the Dordogne district.

PROJECT : Escurolles is a village of 750 inhabitants with an amazing architectural patrimony. In 1970, a formation center of the « Maisons Familiales et Rurales »  movement is created to contribute to the animation. The center, l’IFPAE (Institut de Formation Par Alternance d’Escurolles), possess a building and a park which need a restoration. The workcamp will encourage an exchange between the young people in formation and the volunteers.
WORK : masonry and work in the park.
LOCALISATION : Escurolles is at 18 km from Vichy, 8km from Gannat and 60 km North from Clermont-Ferrand.

RESTORATION OF A 17TH CENTURY CHURCH
PROJECT : Following the success of the last two workcamps in the years 2000 and 2001, the village of Avricourt hosts another international volunteer project. You will continue the work on the church started by other international volunteers. You will be asked to bring passport photographs of yourselves so that we can create a trombinoscope that we can hand out to the local population at the beginning of the project. We would like you to organise activities for the local population in order to associate them more with this project.

PROJECT : Najac is classified among the "nicest villages in France". Since 97, the volunteers began the restoring of an old house called "The house of the governor" (XIIIth century), built some walls and cleared the vegetation. This year, they’ll have to restore and to clear as required by the Town council. Najac, on its stony peak, overlooks the valley of the river Aveyron. One will discover the ruins of a fortress from the XIIIth century looking down upon the old village, the gothic church and a nice rural area very rich in its history.

PROJECT : This is the second time that we work with this partner. An “MFR” (Maison Familiale Rurale) is a sort of school for older pupils who wish to educate themselves for rural or farming careers. Participants will meet students of the rural school. The MFR at Salignac is situated in the middle of the “P?rigord Noir” district close to Sarlat-La-Can?da in the Dordogne. You will work on interior improvements to a lodging (a “G?te”) and exchange your experiences with the students.

PROJECT :  Viller?al is a beautiful small fortified village in the Lot & Garonne. You will be able to admire the hall at the heart of the village, a listed historic monument. The local community would like the volunteer work-camp to participate in the rehabilitation of a little church, 3 km from of the village centre. During the work-camp, the volunteers will work with a specialist architect. Volunteers will go to the work-site by bike enjoying the beautiful countryside. The work will be mainly traditional masonry to the exterior of the church.

PROJECT: The castle of Revel ( XIIIth century) is situated on the slopes of the Belledonnes' mountains, on a magnifical site and quite isolated. A very little road will lead you to the ruins of te castle… and to the resting house where you will stay. The castle association wish to clear the fallen parts and discover the remaining parts of the walls.
It is believed that a treasure is hidden somewhere around the castle!! A workcamp reserved to mountaineers and adventurous minds!
WORK: Cleaning of the fallen stones with shovel & pickaxe, masonry with lime, and little works of vegetation cleaning.
LOCATION: Right in the middle of the belledonnes' mountains and in frot of the Chartreuse… Revel is a very small village situad 12 kms away of Grenoble, Is?re.
ACCOMODATION: A very nice and large lodging made in the castle's old barn.

PROJECT : In the little commune of Feugarolle, on the top of a mount a little chapel have been restored to become a welcome place for trailers on the way to St Jacques de Compostel. The volunteers with the help of local person you will build a giant BBQ (it is not a joke !) that you will enjoy for international BBQ and celebration.

RENOVATION
PROJECT : ‘Amis du Moulin de la Faye’ association work to keep alive Giroux’s mill  in Olmet. This will be the first workcamp for Concordia in this site. This mill was built at the 15th century and as the other it was oil and flour  mill.
WORK : Restoration and rehabilitation of the mill surrounding and his wall.
LOCALISATION : Olmet is located at 70 km East from Clermont-Ferrand, in the  Livradois-Forez park.
