Aurinkotehdas (the Sunfactory) is
a home of five different non-governmental organisations working with development
cooperation and environmental issues. This year, the organisations are
joining their forces to send the fair trade ship Estelle to Angola. In
the camp, we will assist in loading the ship with the aid material for
angolan war refugees. Around the ships departure, volunteers will help
in organising different events in the city, promoting fair trade and solidarity
issues. During the camp we will study fair trade and third world issues.
Vegetarian food. Volunteers over 30 are especially welcome.

EMMAUS, JOKIOINEN

Emmaus Jokioinen is small working
community which works in order to support Angolan and Afghan war refugees
by collecting clothes and other basic materials for their everyday use.
Volunteers will renovate the community house, sort out the clothes &
other donations and repair tools, bicycles and other equipments. Accommodation
conditions will be quite basic: outdoor toilets and sauna for washing.
During the free time it's possible to go swimming in the nearby lake and
bike or walk around and enjoy the nature.

Food Not Bombs (FNB) is an international
grassroots antimilitarist movement, whose aims are to promote disarmament
and social justice. During the camp the participants will cook and serve
meals on the streets and market places in Helsinki. Food is donated
by local shop keepers, and volunteers will also eat donated food. A: in
a local NGO center. Travelling will mostly be on bicycles and travel distances
are from 5 to 30 kilometres per day. The food on the camp will be vegan
and/or vegetarian. X: Extra motivation sheet needed.

ÅLAND PEACE ASSOCIATION, MARIEHAMN

Åland is a scenic group of islands
in the Baltic Sea and an autonomous and demilitarised region of Finland.
Work will involve helping at a local Cultural House (an old dairy), basic
repairs/painting, sorting second-hand goods (which will be sent abroad
as aid) and organising a Cultural Night. The camp is organised by the local
Peace Association. Accommodation will be in a local youth centre. Opportunities
to go sightseeing, walking, cycling etc., and to learn about the special
local politics and culture. Volunteers over 30 are especially welcome.

ÄIJÄLÄ, JYVÄSKYLÄ

Äijälä is a charming old farmhouse
which has been repaired to be a home for disabled people. The community
wants to encourage integration of the handicapped and the so-called healthy
people. Äijälä has been holding workcamps for over 20 years. Work will
be gardening, renovating an old building and possibly hay-making. It will
be done together with the people living in Äijälä and also other handicapped
people coming from outside Äijälä.

SMALL BIG ADVENTURE, RANTASALMI

Pieni Suuri Seikkailu (The Small
Big Adventure) is a nature camp for physically handicapped young people,
situated in the countryside of Middle Finland. The aim of the camp
is to give the participants an opportunity to experience the forest in
different ways and enjoy the nature without too many technical devices.
Volunteers will work as assistants with the handicapped people and also
help to build and organise the camp.

KOTIPIHA, PYHÄSELKÄ

Kotipiha is a small day center for
physically and mentally disabled adults. Aim of the center is to enrich
the day-to-day life of the clients. The day center operates in Hammaslahti,
which is a village 20 km from the city of Joensuu. The work will include
participating in the daily life of the center, like cooking and gardening
plus helping and joining in trips and other special activities during the
camp. Accommodation is in a people's high school 10 km from the day center,
transportation arranged. There will be one day seminar at the beginning
of the camp about being with disabled people.

RAFAEL, JYVÄSKYLÄ

Rafael is a substitute/crise-home
for children and adolescents. They also organise camp-activities for children
and young people. During the camp volunteers will live and work together
with a group of disadvantaged youth: do renovation, construction and household
works for the Rafael-house. Very basic accommodation. Volunteers will enjoy
the Finnish countryside: walks, sauna, swimming in the lake, bonfires...
Volunteers over 30 are warmly welcome.

JALASJÄRVI

The youth council of Jalasjärvi,
near Seinäjoki, organises different kinds of happenings for young people.
The biggest happening next summer is Aukusti, a local youth festival which
includes e.g. concerts and a theatre play. Volunteers will help to organise
the festival in different ways together with local youth.

RIHU, HEINOLA

Rihu is a biodynamic farm surrounded
by forests and lakes. Association Rihu organises courses about biodynamic
farming, environment and herbal medicine, and also camps for school children.
A theme for the workcamp will be local co-operation and environmental work
in the village. W: cleaning and landscaping the environment and some gardening
and hay harvesting. There are also domestic animals on the farm.

Nuuksio is a national park close
to Helsinki, serving as a nature reserve as well as an recreational area.
Dense forests and many lakes offer an insight in typical Finnish landscapes.

A: In tents in the national park, limited facilities, cooking on camp fire.

KORPILAHTI

Putkilahti is a village in the small
county of Korpilahti, 35 km south of Jyväskylä in Central Finland. The
camp host in Putkilahti is a local nature association which has long traditions
in taking care of the cultural landscapes. The work consists of restoring
natural habitats of endangered plant and insect species and other nature
work e.g. chopping fire-wood and other physical work.

SIRKKULANPUISTO, KUOPIO

The camp is organised by a local
NGO, which works with unemployed people, homeless persons and persons with
alcohol problems. Volunteers will renovate old buildings and help to sort
out second-hand goods in a local recycling centre. It will also be possible
to participate in the everyday cleaning, kitchen etc. work at the activating
centres of the NGO. The renovated buildings are used as a holiday place
for the annual camps for homeless children and youth from St. Petersburg
and for other social projects. There will be a study part about the social
system in Finland and an introduction to the work of the NGO.

The aim of the camp is to help local
people to repair culturally valuable old buildings. During the camp the
volunteers will paint old sheds, repair shingle roofs and paint the suspension
bridge, which is located in the area of the local museum. The volunteers
will make the red ochre paint for the buildings, shingles for the roofs
and the tar paint for the bridge. The work is instructed by the local experts.
Tyrnävä is a small village 30 km south of Oulu. The camp is organised by
local organisations and communities.

KIHAUS, RÄÄKKYLÄ

Rääkkylä is a small rural community
in Eastern Finland. The village is famous for its active folk music life:
Kihaus Folk Music Festival (focusing on Karelian and Finno-Ugric traditions),
folk music group Värttinä and kantele constructing. The aim of the workcamp
is to create interaction between the volunteers and local people and raise
the awareness of folk music cultures in Rääkkylä. Volunteers will learn
folk music from each other, form band(s) and perform during the festival.
They will also help to build up the festival. You should be able to play
a traditional instrument and carry it along with you.

The camp is organised by an active
voluntary-based village association in Kuusaa village in Middle Finland.
Volunteers will take part in local activities as building and burning a
traditional charcoal pile, environmental work for the lake Kuusaa, and
help to organise an annual marathon-run in the village. Vegetarian food.

TAMMELA, FORSSA

The workcamp is situated in an old
forester house in Tammela, 90 km north from Helsinki by a small lake. In
the future the house will be a centre for ecological and traditional building
in Finland, where all the interested can attend courses and seminars. Work:
Volunteers will learn to build with ecological materials like clay and
straw, and to use old, traditional building methods. They will e.g. make
traditional paint and paint the building.

Work: To organise 2 separate one
week long day camps for local children who will come in the morning and
go back home in the evenings. Volunteers will do music, arts and crafts,
play games and plays with children and teach languages to them together
with Finnish camp leaders.

both places about 20 km to Helsinki City Centre

is the Christian Association for Boys and Girls in Finland –PTK.

in small village 7 km from Pieks?m?ki, by train 4 hours from Helsinki.

Nivala RENO 7.-20.7.

Work: In the rural town of Nivala
there is a museum of local history and culture Katvala. Work will include
various restoration and renovation work of museum area and its objects
and to paint a suspension bridge in a village nearby. This camp has been
very popular last years.
Accomodation: In a youth hostel
Location: Nivala is about 160 km
from Oulu to the south and 450 km from Helsinki to the north. Nearest railway
station in Ylivieska 30 km, airports in Oulu (160 km) and in Kokkola (120
km)
Note: Volunteers will participate
the Nivala summer happenings.
ALLI 04 Outo Aika Outokumpu

Work: In Outukumpu there is cultural
happenings going on for the whole summer. This camp will specially work
with theatre camp 29.7.-2.8. organised for young people aged 13-18 years.

Location: Outukumpu is situated in
the Eastern Finland, Joensuu 45 km, Kuopio 80 km. Nearest airport Joensuu.

Work: Tasks related to building an
area of small block of flats for young people and to work with the yard.
There will be local young people taking part in the project. The camp host

work camps previous years.
