IBG IBG_LA02 Quito 17.03. – 13.04.02 ENVI 10-12 vol. The local host is the Foundation
Proyecto Ecologico Chiriboga, a local non-profit organisation founded in
1997 to promote ecological development and consciousness in a littel village
called Chiriboga. IBG was interested in the project and sent a group of
volunteers to Ecuador in 1998. They started with the first phase of reforesting
in the area of Chiriboga, planting 1800 trees. They also began to clean
up a large part of the riverbanks and began to construct platebands in
order to generate the land.
Since 1997 the Foundation Proyecto
Ecologico Chiriboga started various projects, similar to the first one.
This year our partner starts to work with the administration of Quito.
The group of volunteers will work in the reforestation of an area around
the R?o Machangara, a very contaminated river near Quito. They will plant
native trees like Quishuars, Sacar Capuliu, Guamachi, Nogal, Yagual, Yaloman
and Cholan.
The international workcamp will work
together with rangers from 8:00 to 13:30 per day, monday to Friday. In
the afternoon the group of volunteers will give classes in basic english
for childs.
The primary language at camp will
be Spanish. You should be able to speak and understand Spanish. You also
have the the possibility to improve your knowledge of Spanish, get to know
more about the country and learn dancing: salsa and merengue. Excursions
to colonial cities or the famous market of Otavalo are also possible.
ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will stay
together in the house of the Foundation Proyecto Ecologico Chiriboga in
the south of Quito.
EXTRA FEES: Volunteers must pay 250USD
