The Rixensart Centre for Refugees
gives shelter to people who have introduced a request for asylum in Belgium.
These people remain in the Centre throughout de 1st phase of their procedure
and no less than 4 months, past this delay a State Aid Centre can give
them a minimum income, enabling them to be independent. The Rixensart Centre
for Refugees houses 160 people (mostly families) and is located in a residential
area.

for the refugees of the Centre (children, teenagers and adults): theatre,
handicraft, artwork, games, sport, ...

B-SCI 2.1 Le Coron-village Nord-Sud

The North-South Village is an association
looking after children in need and is located in a disadvantaged area near
the city of Mons. The " village of raising awareness on Third World issues
" has been built on a spare piece of land. Groups of children can visit
houses from all over the world.
W : Be careful ! This isn't an animation
workcamp but a building and renovation workcamp. Volunteers will build
an emergency exit in a reconstructed gallery of a coal mine and they will
transform a small field in a space for food-producing culture, like in
Africa.
S : North-South issues and antiracism.
L : Good knowledge of French.
Q: To like outdoor manual work and
to be interested in North-South issues.
T : Location of the camp : Cuesmes,
a small disadvantaged village near the city of Mons.
B-SCI 4.1 Facere 18/08-31/08 6 vols
Facere is a day centre as well as
a hostel for I.M.C. (Infirm Motor Cerebral) i.e. mentally and physically
handicapped people. The aim of the association is to promote a maximum
of autonomy and integration for the residents by providing them with an
appropriate place to live in and a range of creative and artistic activities,
meetings, discoveries and guidance in their daily life.
W : Assist the disabled in the day
centre during the day (weekdays) and in the hostel at weekends (wakening
and evenings). The volunteers will be split into two teams. Proposed activities
: organising games and workshops (cartoons, painting, computer practice,
radio, photography ...) and outings.
S : The daily life of handicapped
people in a specialised home.

La Ruelle is a small local association
in Brussels, which carries out an original, and interesting work in favour
of marginalized people. It works for instance with children (6-14 years
old) of immigration origin in the field of creative activities and school
assistance. The creative theme of the work camp hasn't been fixed yet.

Télé-services provides a dozen services
to listen to, advise and guide persons in need or up against difficulties,
in order to help them to acquire autonomy. Amongst various activities,
the service for young people organises different types of activities for
children and youngsters coming from a densely populated area in the centre
of Brussels.

The association works with local
teenagers allowing them to meet other youngsters, like SCI volunteers,
and therefore to open themselves to other cultures and other horizons.

La Clarine takes care of mentally
disabled people aged 20 and over by giving them the opportunity to work
in a farm and therefore to be as independent as possible and opened to
the outside world. The association focuses on the recognition of the disabled
abilities. During the school year, La Clarine also hosts classes to visit
the farm.

the house of the association. Overall restoration of the farmhouse. (Be
aware that the disabled won't be there during the work camp!)

"Onthaalcentrum Kapellen" is a centre
for asylum seekers. After arrival in the country refugees are send to this
kind of centre where they get food, shelter and medical care. Since a lot
of people from different backgrounds are living together here and the asylum
procedure is not always successful, there can be some tension in the centre.

B-VIA 2.1 Oxfam Solidariteit I

Oxfam-Solidariteit is a non-governmental
organisation (NGO). Oxfam Solidariteit supports projects and programmes
in the South. Oxfam Solidariteit created the Educational Center " One World
Center" in Molenbeek, near to Brussels. This center provides awarenessrising
workshops on development situation all over the world. Oxfam Solidariteit
worked out different themes of social, cultural, economical and political
exclusion: Globalisation, Bolivia and South Africa. With the visitors of
this workshops Oxfam Solidariteit discusses how the world economy has its
influence on the daily life of entire world population, how people try
to turn their situation into better, and how people in the North can express
their solidarity.

The Pelgrim is a very nice and peacefully
located day centre for 35 adult men and women with a mental handicap.
Their aim is to give these people a useful day job with respect for the
human being and nature. There are two projects: a farm project with
different ateliers (bakery, wood sculpture, working with animals, herbal
garden) and a children/family farm. There is also a biological
way of life.

making paths, working in the biological garden in close co-operation with
the handicapped people, working in the kitchen

Ateljee Hagelbos is an activity centre
which provides adult people with a mental handicap usefull day activities
starting from their strong sides. MPI Oosterlo is a centre providing
services to children, youngsters and adults with a mental handicap.
They work together with Reggae Geel, a yearly reggae festival, where 15.000
young people come to party and listen to music. This is an integration
activity for the handicapped people to be active with normal young people.

VIA Belgium is part of 2 international
networks : SCI and ICYE. ICYE stands for International Cultural Youth
Exchange and gives young people between 18 and 30 the possibility to do
an exchange for one year. The exchange year starts with a language
and orientiation camp where they get informed about the life in Belgium
and where they learn dutch. This camp will be a chance to meet 20
people from all over the world (Africa, Latin-America, Asia, Europe) and
to spend lots of time with this volunteers.

De wassende maan is a bio- dynamic

organisation who stands for the nature in Flandres (Flemish part of Belgium)
is founded out of the fusion of vzw Nature Reserves en vzw Wielewaal.
They work for obtaining and managing nature, the promotion of nature experience
through education, the inventarisation and study of plants and animal,
giving advice and doing policy on national and international level.

De Wroeter is a non-residential centre
for socially disadvantaged people, some of them have a minor handicap.
Growing vegetables and fruit in a biological way is the main activity.
Other activities are maintenance of the environment (lanes, flowers, trees,...)
and occasional building activities. The objective of the organisation
is to enlarge the social integration of the people by giving them
work or useful daytime activities.
W: The vols will take part in the
daily tasks together with the people from De Wroeter.
X: The vols should be motivated to
make contacts with the disadvantaged people from De Wroeter. Sometimes
heavy work on the field. Interest in biological farming.

De Sleutel is an institiution for
assistance, prevention and employment of people with a drug addiction.
Their new project is the renovation of an old farm with the help of youngsters
who are in a learning- work project to prevent them for problems or drug
addiction. The workcamp is the continuation of the farm renovation
when this youngsters have holiday but there is the possibility to meet
the habitants of the Sleutel and being informed about their programme.

Talita is a reception centre for
women with or without children. Here they get support (accomodation,

with other social institiutions. The aim is to integrate the women
in society in an acceptable way.
Talita wants to sensibilize and inform
people in this matter and exchange with youngsters on the situation of
reception in Belgium.

Vives is a youth organisation who
organises playgrounds and activities for children, especially in summer.
Mbote is their play project for refugee children (based in Brugge).
The idea raised to organise a travelling theater workcamp based on the
theme of children rights, refugees and their right to have a home.
The volunteers will make a theatre
play (based on forum theatre founded in Brasil and focussed on social problems)
and travel with this play in Belgium on different playgrounds.

Hogemeyer is a non-profit organisation,
that stands for the maintenance of cultural heritage, by protecting useful

At this moment, they are focussed on a marvellous castle in the surroundings

(music, painting, theatre,...)

The Timotheus project offers courses
and information in sense, spirituality and deepening of life inspired by
the huge wisdom traditions like shamanism, esoterism,... based on energetic
and awareness widening work. A new project is the care and support
of people in a life crisis (divorce, loose of child or partner, confrontation
with disease, loose of job,...) in an old abbey surrounded by nature and
silence.

De Bereklauw is named after a plant
of which you will find species all over the camp site. The owner is living
there almost 30 years now, together with a changing group of young,
motivated people. He and his friends try to live and work in an ecological,
partly self-sufficient way, by growing their own fruit and vegetables,
by exchanging food and materials with others and by keeping some animals.
A new growing idea is building an artists collective where people can find
their muse.
Although they try to be independent
from the macro-economical system, the inhabitants of De Bereklauw are not
closed off from the outside world. Many neighbours, visitors, friends and
volunteers pass by...

SUMMARY
Compagons B?tisseurs Belgium organizes
Holidays for mentally handicapped all over the year (w-e) and in the summer
time. 3 volunteers counsellors (included the leader) are Belgian; they
know most of the handicapped they spend w-e with. You will help them with
daily tasks and will organise various fun activities during their free
time. The 2 first days are preparation then you leave Brussels with 2 minibus
to the countryside.
WORK
Mentally handicapped people have
the right to vacations like everybody else. This type of vacation gives
them the possibility to leave their parents, their school, and to be amongst
youngsters of their age. They would not be able to do so alone. We help
them with daily tasks and we will organise various different activities
during their free time.
For 10 days, we will be with them
during daytime. During this time, we will take the role of an assistant
and we will also accompany them in their leisure time . There will be 12
handicapped for 9 counsellors.
The three first days, we will take
time to prepare animations. The handicapped will arrive the forth day.
Experiences with handicapped people
are fun and enriching for both the handicapped and the volunteers. The
volunteers have so much fun that they almost forget they are working !

Baelen is located in the Verviers
area. This region offers a lot of possibilities to see or visit things
( the Spa-Francorchamps formula 1 track, the Spa music festival). Baelen
is set up close to the German border. That brings us possibilities to visit
some places.

SUMMARY
“L’Eclat de rire” (burst of laughter)
association and the youth centre are both located around Liege. The neighbourhood
is called ‘Sainte Walburge”. “L’ Eclat de rire” is a place where kids and
mothers can participate to leisure activities. The Youth Centre proposes
activities for teenagers and young adults as dance, musique or theatre
workshops. Both association share the same building.

The M?dico Social Institut of Ciney
is a Centre for moderate and deep mentally handicapped persons. This

handicapped. The activities to be done must be simple and based on the
relationship with the disabled children.
LOCATION
Ciney is the capital of the Belgian
region called “Le Condroz”. This small town is surrounded by green fields.
You easily can arrive in Ciney by train and a lot of trains or buses allows
the tourists to go to other places.

The volunteers will stay in an apartment
in the Centre with 2-3 people bedrooms.

The building is a real witness of the past. Indeed it once was a monastery

Le Bercail is an association that
works with adults mentally handicapped people. It has two parts:
The sheltering sector : 30 handicapped
people live in the centre. They are be taking care of after the daily activities.
The working sector: during the day

painting, etc.). They also run a second hand shop.

The « Roses’farm » is a farm and
non profit-organisation which work with mentally handicapped. They cultivate
biological products as salad and raspberries and host tourists in the tavern.
You will fit out a playing field for kids and a picnic area nearby
THE PROJECT
La Clairi?re is a house for mentally
handicapped adults situated at Arlon, extreme south of Belgium. This house
has recently bought a farm at Florenville (40 km from there) called « La
ferme des roses ». The handicapped cultivate biological products with local
farmers and sell it in the village. Since the beginning of April, a long
term volunteer has worked there to develop the selling of the products
and to prepare the work camp. Inside the farm a tavern is just opened to
attract the tourist to eat fresh product and drink a marvellous Belgian
local beer : the « Orval ».

SUMMARY
People who wait for a political refugee
status are lodged by Belgium in a opened house during about 4-5 months.
Direction of this house asks us for painting works (1/2 time) and animation
with kids (1/2 time).
THE PROJECT
The refugees house (« Le centre des
r?fugi?s ») is an opened place for people or families who are in illegal
situation
in Belgium and who ask for political asylum. Waiting for an answer, the
central office propose them to lodge in this big house in the suburbs of
Brussels.
For instance, most of them come from
Albania, Armenia, Rwanda, Algeria, Kosovo, Bosnia,... They stay there about
4-5 months. Because of the transit situation, it is not easy for them to
foresee something. They live this situation in the boredom and anxiety
without knowing how tomorrow will be. Children go to school in the
village. It is the best integration.

CBB 10 Marche-en-Famenne, CQ Hargimont

SUMMARY
The municipality of Marche-en-Famenne
supports the little village of Hargimont. The district committee often
meets to share ideas how to make life better in the village. This year
they they wish to host an international workcamp.

LOCATION
Marche-en-Famenne is the little town
that hosts the “Compagnons B?tisseurs” office !!! It is in the Luxembourg
province surrounded by woods and fields. There is a little train station.
The volunteers will have the opportunity to travel a little bit around.
LODGING
In a boarding school. Two-beds rooms,
bathroom on the floor. There’s a common kitchen, a big dinning room. The
volunteer will share this place with the participants of youth camps that
take place from 7:00 AM until 17:00 PM.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Being aware of the rules linked to
the accommodation place and to the presence of kids : No smoking around
the kids, no alcohol and NO DRUGS.

SUMMARY
The school system asks for new ways
of learning… The association Coala was created by people who were related
to the “Childhood world”. It organises camps during which the children
can
approach Nature in a different way with pedagogical methods. This association
owns two houses the need to be renovated.

part of Belgium close to Luxembourg – the Ardennes)

Javva Le Carah – Ath 30/07-12/08
10 vols farming/building
Project : Le Carah is an experimental
farm which centres its activities on environmental protection and discovery
of the agricultural farmwork. Its objectives is not organic farming. The
volunteers will take part of several farmworks such as harvest, hedge’s
maintenance, weeding, restoration of farmbuilding, feeding livestock… The
subject of visits and briefings during the workcamps will be oriented on
environmental protection and argicultural in general. Volunteers will have
bikes a their disposal.
Accomodation : at the farm.
Situation : Ath is situated between
Brussels and Tournai.
Remarks : Bring clothes for rain
and farming work (rubber boots). Hard work (8 hours a day) and prohibited
to smoke in the buildings of the farm and to drink alcohol during the day.
Vaccination against tetanus needed. Bring some food specialities from your
country.
Javva Arnaud Fraiteur Centre –
Brussels From 12/08 till 26/08 (5-6 volunteers)
Type : cultural/contact
Project : The centre takes care of
children, aged from 2 to 12 years old, who suffer of cerebral-motor handicaps.
The volunteers will essentially take care of the children in their daily
activities. They will always work in collaboration with specialised members
of the centre and external activities will be organized.
Accomodation : in the centre. The
volunteers must bring a mattress and a sleeping bag.
Situation : in Brussels, at 10 minutes
from the city centre.
Remarks : The languages are French.
Bring some food specialities from your country .
Javva -Youth House - Braine l’Alleud
From 18/08 till 01/09
(10 volunteers)
Type : cultural
Project : The youth centre organizes
daily activities in contact with youngs of the area. The volunteers will
do manual activities (paintings, ...). External activities will be organized
with the young people and the youth house. It’s also possible to practice
badminton, skating, …
Accomodation : the volunteers will
sleep in a castle.
Situation : Braine l’Alleud
Remarks : the languages are French
and English. Bring food specialities from your country.
Javva Music and tradition – Marsinnes
Dates to be confirmed (10 volunteers)
Type : cultural
Project : each year, a festival of
traditionnal and folks music is organized in a small village near from
Huy. The volunteers will help for the setting up of the material and for
his dismantling, before and after the festival. They will help also for
the organisation of the event and they will visit the region.
Accomodation : Participants will
live in a irony of a castle-farm.
Situation : Marsinne is in the region
of Huy (between Li?ge and Namur).
Remarks : Bring your musical instrument
and food specialities from your country. And for the accomodation, bring
a sleeping bag and moss-mattress, clothes for rain and work (rubber boots).
Javva Centre Arthur Regniers- Bienne-lez-Happart

Type : cultural/contact
Project : This centre is a centre
for spastic handiccaped. The volunteers will do the cares of the disabled
people (washing, dressing, dinner, …). They will also accompany the group
in many visits through the country and they will organize the leisure of
the handiccaped in collaboration with the responsible.
Accomodation : in the centre.
Situation : Bienne is near from Binche
and from Charleroi. The centre is isolated but bikes are lending to the
volunteers. The activities are based on the discovery of the region.
Remarks : Bring sleeping bag, moss-mattress,
clothes for rain, and some food specialities from your country. It’s a
work of availability for motivated volunteer !
